March 15-22, 2008 Eastern - Way-Way Early Check In

I am just going back and forth from packing to getting on these boards. I think I will be wearing black walking shorts and a blue tshirt. I am always the one with all the crazy boys!:hyper2: :hyper2: :hyper2:

How far is Jetty Park from Cocoa Beach? How will the viewing be if I watch from my hotel? I'm staying at the Best Western in Cocoa Beach. We are right on the beach. To be honest, we need to be up by 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning to catch a flight to Orlando. I'm not sure that we'll be awake enough to want to make the drive to Jetty Park. Will it still be good viewing from the hotel?

Oh, you are right there. Three miles up the street from Best Western to the pier. Yea, you could go out onto the beach and see it. The Cocoa Beach pier is right outside your hotel as well, you could go out onto that. It's still a beautiful light show but it won't be that loud (mild rumble from there). Your hotel and the Cocoa Beach pier are 5.9 miles from the pad, whereas Jetty Park is 2.9.

We are at the Best Western too Carol. We will be tired, but we will probably try to take it in. We'll see.

We'll be in our matching mickey shirts - girls in pink, boys in tan.

Ben,

Thanks so much for the information. The last time we cruised (1988) there was a shuttle launch the morning that we were getting on the ship. It was the first shuttle launch after the (excuse my ignorance here) Challenger (?) exploded on lift off. Unfortunately, we were coming from Orlando and would have had to check out of the hotel at about 4:30 in the morning in order to get to Canaveral in time. We weren't feeling well, and the launch had already been delayed several days and we didn't make the trip. I've kind of always regretted it, but even looking back I probably wouldn't have done anything differently. Depending on how awake we are, we'll either drive to Jetty Park, or just take it in from the hotel. I hope it goes as scheduled. I'd love to see a launch.

Thanks again for the information. I'll print off the information from your web site so we are prepared for whatever we decide to do.

Lisa,

It's good to know that someone is at the Best Western too. I was thinking we were the only ones.

As to what we will be wearing - clothes, and green mardi gras beads. No matching outfits for us. We'll see what comes out of the suitcase that morning. :goodvibes

You're welcome. If you have more questions please ask.

Not to stray off topic, but yes that would have been Sept. 29, 1988 (STS-26) the first flight after Challenger. It was not scrubbed at all (nicely for viewers); Sept. 29 was the date for a while beforehand and it went on time. It was one of the bigger launch crowds there has ever been.

Then it must have been a subsequent launch. We were there in late November. I know that one was postponed at least a couple days, because we would wake up in the morning and check the news to see if it was a go. If it would have gone the first two mornings we would have tried to make it. But since it went the morning we had to check out, we just didn't make it.

Must have been the second one, STS-27; scrubbed December 1st went Dec 2nd. It was a 9:30am launch. :-)

Good luck on Delta!

ugh! it is 10 degrees outside my house right now! If it weren't for next week I think I would crawl in my bed and not come out till I see green grass. You can find me in a hammock at Castaway Cay!

Yeah, the problem is you won't see green grass until mid-April! :rotfl: We've given up on keeping the sidewalk clear. The melting created a giant ice floe on the sidewalk, and now the new snow is covering it up! We have a north facing driveway and both DH and I are anal about keeping that clear. So it's in pretty good shape. Any visitors have to come in through the garage now!

At least the weekends have been fairly nice recently. And I have to admit that shopping for swimsuits in -15 weather makes it seem not so bad too! Though I did feel a little odd when I was actually purchasing them. People were staring at me....

I purchased a new swim suit this evening and the checkout girl said so where are you going on spring break???!!! Now how did she know I was leaving the cold!? Everyone at my work wants to hide in my suitcase!

I somehow keep telling the checkout people at the store (or anyone else who will listen) WHY I'm buying spring clothes!

I'll put the kids in swimsuits and something cute over top to cover up when we board - I think they'll like checking out the pool.

I'll probably be in a skirt or capris - depends on the weather. I don't want to change for dinner the first night. I have a little 3/4 sleeve denim jacket from Talbots I'll probably have on - might it be a tad cool in Port Canaveral? I remember last March was a bit cool at WDW. I had worn little cardigans a few times last year.

Just got DD a Pooh tee shirt and DS a Pirates one at the Disney Store - only $5 each. Plus a little Pooh expanding washcloth for DD (she loves Pooh). Putting them in their special surprise beach backpacks I got on clearance from Lands End for only $15 (don't you love a bargain?). Was going to do a gift basket from Shirley (which do look awsome) but I wanted to do it myself, so I can make it really personal. I'm filling the backpacks with movie candy, little Disney notepads and pencils, and stuff. Anything consumable - I don't want any extra stuff coming home! Except I'm still looking for a Pooh plush that I like, or I'll look on the ship.

Can't believe it's a week until we fly down!

We are forecasted to get 10 - 12 inches of snow today and tomorrow:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

So ready to sail!

I keep thinking - One more week to Florida!

Kids are being dismissed a couple hours early. We are due for the biggest snowfall since 1998!

Wow Wrightz! We deserve tropical weather don't we? Doesn't a nice drink by the pool sound nice about now? :drinking1

We got 11 inches of snow on Tuesday. It came in a small band that went right over St. Louis. We measured 12 inches in our yard. That was the most snowfall since 1993 here. Today southern MO got 6 inches. The temperatures will be in the 50's this weekend. I am so tired of this yoyo weather. Can't wait for the 80's.
I'll be half way to Florida this time next Friday...
See y'all soon.:woohoo:

DW has been the one posting most of the time on the thread. She has been kind with her comments so far :rotfl2: Just wondering if any of the other DH's are looking forward to March Madness. Since most of the conference tournaments are going on during the week we cruise, the games should be shown on the big screen on the pool deck. Last cruise i was able to catch a few football games on the big screen. Almost like tailgating without the crowds.:happytv:

It was 16 out this morning with snow. What a dirty four letter word!!! It is predicted to be 50 by Tuesday. Yeah, I will believe that when I feel 50 degrees outside myself. I need to start checking Florida weather again. It seems like when we get hit hard with cold temps Florida's weather also goes down hill.

My new washer was installed Monday. When the guys installed it they were cranky due to the snow storm. The head guy had trouble with the hose ends, my house has a plastic box that is in the wall and the faucets are in the box. The new washer hose ends had these plastic connecters that had had large ribs so the hand had something to hang onto when fastening the hose to the faucet. Well, my box wouldn't allow that to happen. The man looked at me and said he just didn't like my brand of machine and nothing in this country is standardized and Bosch always sends this type of hoses. He thought we needed different hoses. I told him it was a good thing Lowe's was close, just run back to his store, get the hoses and install the washer. His reply "No, you go get the hoses and you install the machine we are leaving."

WELL, nobody told this man you don't mess with a woman getting ready to go on a cruise and her washer that was suppose to be installed wouldn't be even though we paid for it to be installed.

I told the guy, "you either install my washer or you put it back on your truck and reinstall the one you just took out. I will go to Lowe's and get my money back."

He decided to give it another try. He cut the ribs off.

Again don't mess with women getting ready to pack for a cruise. I was under enough stress with the washer going out right before the cruise. I came home once with a washer that lost its motor! That was back in the days when all the kids were home so laundry for 6 from a 7 day cruise.

All is well now but if we could only get rid of the snow.
