March 11, 2006 - 7 Day Magic

Sooooo we are going to Costa Maya after all. Nice of them to tell us! I guess they figure we are all checking the website all the time anyway...;)

Mort I saw that Chacchoben Mayan Ruins tour on the CostaMayaCruiseExcursions.com website. Is that the one? It looks interesting. And a lot less $$ than the Disney one. I wonder if anyone on the boards has used them. More research.........

I am really bummed! :( Does anyone know the time we are there? Are the days the same?

I think I'm sorta bummed about Cozumel. Costa Maya isn't in my Passporter!! Must...over...plan...for a different destination! At least we have a little bit of warning.

Yeah, we're flying! :rotfl: I actually looked it up one day out of curiosity (and boredom). We are 304 miles closer to Tokyo Disney than WDW ! We are thinking about grabbing a (free) military airlift to Tokyo some day to see another Disney.

Off to DCL to check out our options.

I have found that it is still on the 15th, but does anyone know the time we are in port? Also, someone on another thread was saying you can check and see what rooms are still available for a cruise. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks for the info.

If anyone comes across something good to do, let me know.

You can check to see what rooms are available by pretending to book a cruise. Figure out which Category you want to book and when the reservation screen shows up with a room number - there is a button that says "choose a specific stateroom." then you can go in and see what is available.

I hope this makes sense!

The one we were looking at is chacchobenruins.com. It's $2 more per person, but it's highly recommended on the cruise critic board, and the guides are Mayan. And, they don't want a credit card deposit.

I've posted a thread on the main board in the hopes someone from one of the last couple of cruises will tell us what hours we're in port. I'm told that the regularly scheduled Costa Maya cruises are 7:30 to 5:30, but that doesn't seem very long considering the Cozumel stop lasts until 10:30. Guess we'll have to hope someone who's been answers me. I suppose we can ask the Feb 11 bunch, if they have a live thread.

Speaking of live threads, is anyone of us going to do one? I have a hard and fast rule about not touching computers when I'm on vacation, so I can say for sure it won't be me. I'll post a TR when I come back home, though. Well, at least I'll put up pictures.

I'm looking to see if there are any other firefighter or EMTs on this cruise, I'd like to meet other and maybe trade patches or T shirts.
I'am a Capt. with the local dept as a volunteer and I'm always looking to meet new people and exchange training ideas!
Anybody interested please let me know so I can pack a few extra shirts.
I'll be easy to spot the first day, I'll be wearing a dark green Pecan Plantation Fire Dept. t shirt.

My DH is a paramedic and certified firefighter,:firefight but teaches full time for the local community college...:teacher: he doesn't work the streets anymore so he's not affiliated with a deptarment. I don't think they have patches or anything for the college.... but he'll be happy to talk training with you I'm sure. That is if you can drag him out of the Rainforest Room long enough....:rotfl2:

Hey Capt.80! My FIL will be on the cruise and he is a retired police Lt. If your patch collection includes cops, I'm sure he'll bring a patch if I ask him.

We are going to be SOOOOO safe. So far we have 2 firefighters (or trainers), one retired cop and a Coast Guard officer. Anyone else?

HMMM MIL is a retired librarian...not much help there. If there was a disaster, I could lead the fundraisning efforts and start the memorial foundation (I'm the exec. director of a non-profit). I should survive - remember the CG and police officer are with ME! :teeth:

So I guess I have a QotD: What do you do for a living?? (a few people have already mentioned occupations - so what does everyone else do?)

I run a small-ish countywide United Way and I'm an adjunct professor at U of Alaska. I was a stay at home mom for 5 years, then a full time grad student, and I've been back in the work world for about 1 1/2 years. (Mostly for the $$ to go on vacation! :woohoo: ) Next stop... :tink: ! (I feel like I've had several lives).

Questions of the day....I'm a little behind...

Makeup....I don't wear a lot of makeup but I like CoverGirl products - Outlast foundation, mascara and eyeshadow and L'Oreal's Glam Shine lipgloss.

Occupation....I'm professional accountant working for the Canadian government and my Mom is retired.

I am the CEO, CFO, Housekeeper, chef, driver, and nanny of my household! :teeth: JJ. I wanted to make it sound good for all you professionals. Im a Stay at home mom. Sometimes i love it, sometimes ... :sad2: :bounce: :stir:

Hi all....havent posted in awhile...

Im a Project Executive with "Big Blue" here in Canada....DH is a IT Consultant

Favorite movie - Shawshank Redemption...
Favorite books - any well written murder mystery, still hard to beat Agatha Christie, I actually love the Harry Potter series too.

Question - we are still deciding on whether to hire a towncar or stick with the DCL bus...what time do they start boarding???

even though I dont post I am really glad I joined the thread, lots of great info, the one suggesting the over the door shoe holder is excellent, I put ours to the side with the growing pile of goodies being collected for the cruise

you know, one thing that i havent seen posted in the suggestions is an over the rod shoe holder that goes inside the closet. We are a fam of 4 so thats a lot of shoes. I also put nylons, slips and other little things in there.

I am in IT Consulting Staffing from the sales side, so I can get all of the IT folks a job! :) My husband is an Oracle Data Architect, my father is in IT Network Support, and my mother is a Life Insurance Assistant. My best friend is a stay at home mom, and her husband is a surgeon.

So... if we all go down, and end up shipwrecked somewhere, we have firefighters, police officers and a sugeon handy! I can get all of the IT folks new jobs where ever we end up, and my mom can insure us. Tee hee!

I teach computer skills to students that are in grades kinder through fourth. I am training the people so kcarl021 can give them a job later. :rotfl2: Actually, you would be amazed what a group of 21 five year olds can get themselves into! They have NO inhibitions. Their products are great though. :thumbsup2 I can honestly say I truly enjoy my job and since I HAVE to go everyday, I am glad I can say that. My dh has a small monogramming business. Just started it a couple of years ago. He does good work and enjoys it, so that is what matters. Was in the oil business but the pressure and stress were not worth it.

Jennifer, I think you have one of the most important jobs of all. I like your terminology! :)

I'mWong - you can help me out...I have the computer skills of a 6 year old!! :lmao: Most of our neighbors are in the oil business.

I need to hire most of you as consultants - managing IT and finance are my LEAST favorite parts of my job! (my office job AND my Mom job!)

DisneyPinDiva - I was just looking at the costamayacruiseexcursion ruins tour. Sounds about my speed (and my price), now I need to figure out if this is a good company to go with.

We arrive at 10:30am and leave at 6:00pm. I phoned DCL, and asked, and the Chacchoben tour people confirmed the 10:30 arrival.
