March 10 announcement?

I would love to sail out of NY. For once I wouldn't have to fly all over the US to get on a ship!! I could drive to NY easy enough. That sounds like a good plan to me. Airfare is horrible right now. Just bought our Las Vegas tickets today and we paid 980.00 for 2 tickets!!!:scared1:

I can see sailing out of NY for the "cool" factor (as in, people want to go there- I love NYC!)- but with the rising costs of gas prices, I don't understand while they would get further away to sail to similar places they're already going (i.e. Caribbean.) I hear of lots of folks cruising to Bermuda from NY- anyone gone on that itinerary? I feel liked I'd be spooked just by the name "Bermuda!" :lmao:

And I definitely think it's a "destination" where people would pump money into the economy there- maybe even the new Disney store....but aren't all of those different entities owned separately? Disney stores, Disney musicals, DCL.....? Please pardon my ignorance! Does the added gast cost for DCL outweigh the "possibility" of people spending money for these other various Disney branches...? Guess they don't in Vancouver! :)

I did hear from the cruise sales agent on the Dream a last week, that the Fantasy will not be going to Ket West as the port is too small. But she didn't know anymore details than that. The press conference for the rest of 2012 will be held in April, according to her.

They are different branches of the Walt Disney Company.....basically all owned by Disney.

We have known that since the dates went on sale last October. I wish they would just open the dates and get it over with.

Thanks for sharing your pix. I have been wondering about Bermuda, glad to hear you love it! It does look gorgeous. My husband works with someone who goes freq. on Ncl to Bermuda and it stays "parked" for a few days. I am assuming this is what you did too. You have got me hoping for Bermuda now!

We heard April as well when we rebooked onboard back in January. But they also said that sailings to Alaska again next summer were likely (and what we were hoping for....)- but now, who knows?!?!? :confused3

My TA just sent me an invitation to a webcast on March 22nd that is supposed to detail all the itineraries that you can go on with the Disney. I will let you know if they actually do provide any information on the 2012 itineraries.

MJ, Disney may have to pay you a commision because those pictures are beautiful! This makes me think hmmm, perhaps Bermuda & CC double dip? The cool factor is not lost on me either when I am looking at the Statue of Liberty pictures from the ship. DCL beats a tug boat:thumbsup2

New York is HUGE cruise market....many don't seem to think so. On Saturdays and Sundays during the summer there are at least 4 ships in port each day. There are also some cruiselines that sail year round from NY.

I posted all the current places cruises from NY sail in another thread (maybe even earlier in this thread)

There are dozens of places you could go from NY....most notably the Caribbean (8 day cruises), Bermuda (7 day cruises), Canada/New England (usually 5 day or 7 day cruises).

Many Trans Atlantic cruises start in NY as well.....there are millions of people within a short drive of the NY port....a VAST untapped DCL market.

There are three main cruise ports in NY/NJ area. Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bayonne.

Here is some info:

We have done a few cruises out of NY and there is nothing like sailing down the Hudson River past the NYC skyline and sailing past Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty....awesome!!!

Plus think of all the pre-night stays people would book with add-ons for Broadway plays, especially DISNEY broadway plays like Lion King and Mary Poppins. I have always thought DCL should sail from NYC.

MJ

But they could do these ports leaving from Florida....but who knows with DCL.....

now I haven't sailed out of New York like you, but I'd love too being from NJ. I look into RCI all the time just in case a good deal comes along:lmao:

Could the Wonder do Galveston instead of LA during the winter, and then Alaska during the summer? That would mean they would still have PC crossings, and could do different carribean ports (San Juan, Aruba, etc). That would leave the Magic to do sailings out of NY, that could include Bermuda and CC.

Actually, both of those itineraries sound good.

Seven-night cruises from Galveston don't have time to go to Puerto Rico or Aruba. They would most likely stick with the western Caribbean ports.

We heard on the Magic last week that it would be in NY next summer as well and are looking forward to seeing what will be offered!

blah, have no desire to go to ny...
I will be 46 in July and have never been to NYC. Only once flew into La Guardia, but then took a shuttle bus to Conneticut to visit DW's family. I'd love to see the Big Apple sometime!

This is why we moved our reservation to the St. Thomas/San Juan itinerary next year. We really wanted to finally see Key West (our last western cruise on the Magic we had to skip Key West because of a hurricane). When they told me it could not dock there, the western itinerary held no interest (been there, done that). :sad2:

Seems like poor planning when you realize that they have disabled themselves from sailing through the PC with the new ships or now docking at Key West  :confused3

In our 11 years of sailing Disney, this is the longest I have ever seen them wait to release itineraries for the next year. In the past we would have booked in September or October of 2010 for Summer 2012 on the Magic or Wonder

Actually, the first time the Magic sailed to the Mexican Riviera in 2005 they didn't release the itineraries until spring of 2004 and they didn't release summer 2008 until very late Feb / early March of 2007. So they haven't ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS released everything THAT far ahead... There is no real rule about when or how they do it.
