March 10 announcement?

We sailed on both the Magic and the Epic last year. Loved both for very different reasons. Our Epic cruise was without kids, and was very relaxing. Disney was very face-paced.

At the end of each cruise week, we compared---with the Magic, we felt like we needed a vacation afterward----not a complaint, because we have since booked on the Fantasy and expect more of the same. At the end of the week with the Epic, we felt rested and ready for the week to end. We were not bored at all, and had a great time. Got to meet some great crew members.

We liked the open dining plan with NCL/Epic. We liked having service staff that moved with us on the Magic (and remain Facebook friends with, in contact nearly weekly).

The pools on the Epic----we tended to use on port days (partial day sightseeing, partial day enjoying the 'privacy' on the ship).

So, both ships were great for different reasons. :thumbsup2

My wife and I are considering a cruise on epic, can you tell me if the pools are heated, and if they are salt water?

Thanks

One benefit of the Castaway Club membership is being able to book new cruises earlier. Platinum and Gold members were able to book 7-10 days before Silver & the general public the first time they did this with the Alaska cruises in 2009. With the Fantasy the early booking only lasted one day.

You know those would be disappearing from the ship. :rolleyes1

The above is sometimes true. There is no promise that CC can book early, and on the most recent releases, I don't believe it happened at all. TAs had the availability on those long before they showed up on the DCL website, giving TA clients priority!

Well, to throw a little monkey rench in the discussion, it was just announced here that Carnival is leaving, Mobile, AL, so we have a cruise terminal and no ship!

From New York:

Bermuda

San Juan
Tortola
St. Thomas
St. Maarten
Nassau
Great Stirrup Cay
Grand Turk
New Port, RI
Halifax, NS
St. John's, NL
Bar Harbor, ME
Gloucester, MA
Prince Edward Island
England - TA
Ireland - TA

There are tons of places to go from NY. You could do 5,6,7,8,9,10 day or longer cruises...just like other places.

They won't go to Great Stirrup Cay as that is NCL's private island and not a good one at that

Thanks...I knew half moon cay was one of the other cruiseline's "islands" but I was not sure about Great Stirrup Cay....and again, these are just places that are currently being visited by ship from NY....not necessarily to be used by DCL.

Bermuda would not surprise me as a destination from NY. They are doing a big tourism push right now and may have offered some nice perks to Disney ;)

I also would not be surprised if they went North from NY into Canada, maybe even a mixture of the two on alternating weeks.

If they sail north from New York I hope they do a fall foliage cruise, up to Quebec. Hotels in New England charge an arm and a leg during the fall, plus the small town roads are crowded, so a 10-14 day cruise would be a great way to see a lot of the area.

Technically, the Dream does the Bahamas and not the Caribbean. Not a big difference except during colder months IMO.

My mistake when typing :lmao:. My brain said Bahamas but my fingers typed Caribbean. My dh constantly refers to it as the Caribbean because of the Disney movies ;) so I figure that's why I subconciously typed it :thumbsup2

Sorry to come late to this long thread but it's March 10th. Was there a big announcement today? Thanks! Katherine

I tried. The only sailings they gave me that were available were for the Fantasy. I would love to do a 7 night, but it's too much out of my price range since we also have to figure air from CA into the cost. We would actually do the Pacific cruise out of Long Beach, but the cruise doesn't come back down so we'd still have the same cost issue as the airfare one way from Vancouver to CA is the same cost as a roundtrip fare to FL. Done the Mexican Riviera cruise on Carnival a couple times, so that's not enticing enough anymore and really would like to do a Caribbean cruise.

Often, if you book a return flight (even without the intention to ever use the return leg) it's cheaper than what a One-Way would cost, especially on international flights. Just be sure to book the leg you plan to use as the first, some airlines will cancel the entire ticket if you don't check in for the first flight.

That's what we usually do for TA crossings and the savings are substantial.

For example: In September, from Orlando to Zurich:

$1460 One-Way
$763 Return

Crazy, isn't it?

As someone posted yesterday you can book and get price for December 2012 on the Fantasy with Costco, but only August 2012 with Disney?

How can that be and so much for taken care of there own repeat cruisers?

Honestly, I have no idea. I'm only speculating on New York due to the DCL surveys and the rumors that the Magic won't be returning to Europe in 2012.

Do we know where these rumours originate from about Magic not being in Europe next year? I'm really hoping to do a transatlantic next April-May :(

You can call DCL directly to book the Fantasy through the end of 2012.

That's great but what if you rebooked through this site and they say so sorry no dates or pricing is available?

So are you saying Costco or Disney direct, but not DU?

Or should I find a TA that knows what they are doing?
