Is the marathon that everyone posts about the one on Jan 10th?

I got info on a leukeima marathon in my city and Disney both on same day. LOL It says transportation to and lodging is included. Can anyone tell me if it cost anything to join a walk team? I think I'll go to the free info meeting and find out. I would just have to decide between walking her in my city or at Disney. LOL hard decision yah right if its free I'd go walk at Disney. :)

A bunch of us WISHers are doing the Disney half-marathon (and a few brave souls doing the full marathon) on January 10th 2005.

I am not on a specific 'walk team' - I paid for my half marathon registration and will have to pay for my travel/hotel/food/etc. for the trip.

Isn't the marathon on Sunday Jan. 9th, 2005? I don't always get the details of things straight, so could somebody let me know if I'm right or wrong?

Sorry, I goofed! Glad you all caught it!! The half-marathon and marathon ARE on Sunday January 9th 2005!

Ok, I'm sure this is a stupid question, but.... how far is the half marathon and how far if you want to do the whole marathon? Thanks!:wave2:

A full marathon is 26.4 miles and the half marathon is 13.2 miles.

I just got an email from WDW Marathon staff, and registration is still open for both the half and full marathons! Anyone else care to join about 50 WISHers in the half and several more doing the full marathon??

I might consider doing the 1/2 marathon. Does anyone know approx how long it takes to walk it ?? It would be a great goal to work towards!
Thanks!

The marathon and half-marathon have a required pace of 16 minutes per mile. I think that comes out to just under three and a half hours for the half-marathon.

OH yes! Come with us. I think the team thing has some sort of fundraising commitment.
WISHing you good luck.

Zoesmama, are you talking about a Team in Training group?? They get groups together and you train as a team and raise $$ for their charity (sorry, can't remember which one it is) and in return they pay for your trip to the marathon. I don't know if there is a minimum amount of $ you must raise.

I am NOT on a Team in Training team. I registered for the half-marathon on my own and will be paying my own travel costs. I am not raising $ for a charity, although I may consider a personal contribution to the charity holding the half marathon.

I went to the Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and unfortunately our team isn't doing Disney this year!

You are required to fundraise a certain amount of money, and in turn they pay for your trip. The amount of money depends on total trip cost, I believe. (They do some overseas trips and stuff, those cost lots of fundraising dollars!)

I am planning on doing this hopefully next year to run the Midnight Sun Marathon in Alaska...DBF and I think that would be cool.

If you have any questions, though, feel free to PM me!

Good luck, and come join us!

We have a great weekly marathon training thread going too. Come check it out and it will definitely get you motivated, there is such a wonderful group that posts to it!
