Marathon Weekend Weather

THEY DO! It's called the VIP Tent. They created the tent after the 06 weekend where temps were in the mid 30's. In it's first year, the temps were balmy in the mid 60's.

You really do not wnat to be locked in a bus with the heater on high (which is what the driver will do. You will simp-ly freeze once you get off the bus.

Thinking - in 06 they did break out the Mylar blankets from previous year's races for the start. It was that OR lots of folks kept them from previous years.

Pack a dry top and sweat pants & sweat shirt in your baggage. That plus the Mylar blanket given out at the finish will help.

Good thinking Charles! :thumbsup2 You're probably going to say the VIP tent or Epcot - but is there anywhere to change afterward?

I would apply BioFreeze to the joint and go with that. Anything more and you will get into clothing/brace issues that may create other issues. The BioFreeze will feel really cold in the room. That will go away and once you start sweating then it will feel worm. That will help promote a little more circulation.

Thanks for the suggestion, as well as all of the advice you have given previously. It has really been helpful.

You could walk back to the restrooms on the right hand side of the Epcot entrance, where the Disney hotel buses drop off / pick up.

The park entry restrooms, med tent or portapotty. If you wear a sport bra (can I say that word) just hide behind a tent and make a quick change. You will not be the only one - trust me. As a guy this is a little easier - but I am sure folks do not like seeing pasty white

At NYC I stripp of and changed shirts with my Dh right in front of eveybody.:lmao:

Just thought of something... if it's going to be or feel like 15F on Saturday, is there going to be anywhere that's warm for me to wait around after the 1/2? DF is walking so I expect he'll be at least 3 hrs. Last year was warm and sunny so I didn't mind hanging around... 15F is a different story, especially in sweaty clothes.

As Charles said, pack something dry in your bag. Makes a big difference. At LV I was fine as soon as I shed my 1st 2 layers that were wet. Put a dry top on and it was great.

What am I going to do with my dad??? HE's going to be freezing being a spectator! He has to come with us to the start correct?

That's kind of what it's like. You will notice that if you are in a group of 3-4 folks you will all of a sudden have 10-15 folks down wind. Folks huddle downwind of the lighting generators behind tents; any where to block the wind. I am on the Gulf coast. It's not pleasant to wait but it's really not all that bad either. Just look for a flcok to huddle behind

Wishful thinking, I guess! I thought with the race retreat sold out that they may bring in some of those outdoor heaters...

My DW just grabs a 7 AM marathon bus that catches me at the finish on a really cold half morning.

For the full she will catch me at Poly after grabbing the 7 AM marathon bus and then at the finish.

I actually feel worse for her when this cold.

I am sure if they read this they would fence off a large area and charge a few bucks to be fenced in with a heater.

My Dh just said thet they will prob have another tent and charge on the day!!!!

Oh okay, I don't care if there are other people doing the same thing :)

Thanks!

Remember this is the same crowd whose ranks include the 10-20% folks (M & F) who will run to the trees as soon as we cross the start line this weekend.

Where does she catch the bus? My dad is 72 years old...tough guy...but that's really cold for a long period of time. He was going to see us off. Should I have him sleep up and catch a bus? WE're staying at the Beach Club.

The marathon bus will leave from the convention center between the BC and YC. It does start to run again around 7 am. Just say your goodbyes as you leave the room. Mary can get to the half finish with no issue.

Also, the start viewing point is really not worth the time. You can kind of see the fireworks. You canot really see your runner, nor can they see you since it's dark.

Why don't you have him stay in bed and then come and see you pass by the hotel on the broadwalk?

I wondered the same thing - with the forecast being SO cold, will Disney do anything to help the runners stay warm?

I bought the race retreat a couple months ago because I'm alone and hadn't found this forum yet (to meet up with other runners). I thought it would be a pleasant place to wait for the start even though I plan to eat my breakfast at BWV before I get on the bus. However, in the final race retreat instructions it says that "All runners are expected to be in their corrals no later than 5:00 a.m. Please plan on a 20 minute walk from The Race Retreat to the corral area". That would mean I have to leave the race retreat around 4:45 a.m. I'm in the last wave/corral to start running so I'll have to wait outside for 1.5 hours. So the race retreat isn't a big plus against the cold weather IMO. Why do they make you line up so early - sheer numbers of runners?

Heres hoping the temps go up a bit before Sat/Sun or there will be lots of group hugs in the waiting area. :grouphug:

They want to get folks out to the start with a little time to spare. It is a numbers thing. It takes a while for 25,000 folks to move through a single lane stretch of road to the start area. This is one of those areas where there is Disney time and actual time. I would not feel compelled to leave the VIP area all that early. You will get a sense of when it is time to leave as you watch folks bail out. Make sure you are watching runners when the crowd thins and not volunteers or others who may be in the tent.
