Marathon Weekend 2027

It would be fun if some year they did a "Through the Looking Glass" themed Dopey knockoff (maybe they could call it the Chesire Cat or the Tweedle Dum) with "We're All Mad Here" as the slogan. Maybe they could have it right around April Fool's Day. This would be the Dopey run backwards. That way you can get the harder races out of the way first and then relax and enjoy the parks and the good food over the last two days when you have the easier runs. Maybe they could even run the usual courses in reverse, if that would work.
This would be one heck of a Springtime Surprise, wouldn't it?? I can't even imagine trying to do a full marathon in April heat and humidity! Oh wait, I can, since I did the 2020 marathon. NO THANKS!

Kind of off-topic but now that my son and I have our race registration and have booked our accommodations, I've started thinking about meal planning and park activities. The problem with the Dopey (or if you're only running the marathon but will arrive a couple days early) is that you have to be careful not to wear yourself out and to eat somewhat carefully over the course of those days.

I doubt there's room in the Disney race schedule for another "Marathon Week" but this would be cool.
I've suggested this before, calling it "Topsy-Turvy" from Hunchback of Notre Dame

While the overall situation around registering for rD races is less than ideal, I think the registration process is very close to the best it can be considering the circumstances. Moreso because the alternatives, specifically an out and out lottery, are so terrible.

A lottery would lead to more people trying to get in the race, people who are trying adding in races they don’t actually want because they “need to get something”, and a general randomness to the outcomes the would make basically everyone unhappy. For example, my group had 8 people looking for 9 registrations today. I can’t imagine a world where we would’ve gone 9 for 9 in a lottery. Because of the expense of the trip and the demographics of the runners involved, there are lot of outcomes where we probably would have chosen not to use the registrations (even though they were paid for when we “won” them in the lottery) because it was no longer worth booking a gigantic trip based on the races we didn’t get. For me, individually, I wanted the 10k for sure and as wavering on the Marathon. If I was signing up for a lottery, I would’ve have put myself in for every individual race along with Dopey and Goofy because I would want to give myself the best chance to get something/anything; even if it wasn’t what I actually wanted.

People getting shut out is unavoidable when the demand outstrips supply. In a way, this system makes getting all the races you want or none of the races you want two of the more likely outcomes. If you get lucky, you’re in early and can sign up yourself and multiple others to all the races you desire. If you are unlucky, you never get in and miss out; but can much more easily plan how to move forward. Either way, it’s better than what a lottery would bring.

Yeah, a lottery would really be a problem for families trying to register. What if a minor gets in but their adult gets shut out? Lotteries work okay for major races because it's all adults running and they can do it unsupervised, but kids as young as 5 can run the 5K, and they certainly can't be out there alone.

(Not complaining, just still processing)
I'm processing here too. I hadn't planned on this weekend as I was holding off until 2028, but my little sister wanted to do Goofy. Then as it turns out, Goofy sold out this morning before I could get in, so I went ahead and did Dopey. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get back to me in time about running Dopey instead, so I feel for her.

The big change I saw this time was that all but one of my tabs never dropped below an hour. Once my first tab started to drop, it was the only one to move.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at HH, DATW, and out on the course. It'll be my 10-year rD anniversary and I'm going HAM on everything.
I would expect nothing less from you!
I have a friend that is absolutely in favor of doing a backwards Dopey. I personally think he's crazy, but to each their own :rotfl2:
I think a reverse Dopey would be much more difficult. Mostly because the physical impact of the marathon would be continuing to spill over. With a reverse Dopey, you would still be running a half the day after running a full. and need to maintain pace after having just given marathon effort the day before. With Dopy, I do just enough to finish the previous races and save max effort for the marathon.
I can't imagine trying to run a half marathon the day after running a marathon... 😵
Me neither. I'm still pretty sore the day after the marathon so hobbling around the parks at whatever pace I feel like is just better for recovery. Plus, when I ran my first Dopey I was still recovering from a cold when I left the Tuesday before Dopey weekend. Feeling myself get stronger and stronger each day leading up to the marathon was much better than having to run the marathon while still recovering.

Probably a good time to remember the Dopey fleece sold out for a bit last year. And then was available before selling out again. So for fellow Dopeys probably just best to get that sooner than later.

I know I did. Since I was really happy to not think about buying that at the expo this year.
The only thing is I don’t like half zipper outfits and this is 1 so I’m gonna pass. I was debating about the half marathon jacket.

I thought about signing up this morning, but I’m already doing w&d and I think I’ll try for princess again next year, so I sat out. So much craziness

Here’s something I can’t recall ever happening: apparently people who complained about not getting in are getting DMs saying they can’t make it for whatever reason (hours after signing up????) and they’re willing to transfer. Needless to say... no.

So maybe we have some people who didn't do their homework and snagged bibs on speculation, betting on someone paying them for a transfer?

There was someone trying to pull that scam…well I don’t remember how long ago it was thanks to migraine brain fog. (Possibly Wine and Dine reg?) But I know it was sometime recently. First tried to post publicly to one of the sites that shall not be named before hitting DMs.

Apparently someone didn’t learn.

Considering this is twice now I’m pretty sure someone’s trying to scam runners who don’t know how the system works.
