1. Lion King. Masterpiece, the rhythm of the songs is so supportive of the characters, original and fun.
2. Tie between Mulan & Moana
3. Mary Poppins, a classic that reflects Walt Disney

3) tie between A Goofy Movie (Powerline has some bangers), Lilo & Stitch (Elvis, duh!), and Encanto (Surface Pressure is the best song, and What Else Can I Do? is always a pick-me-up)

SAFD: So difficult! I was tempted to cheat and vote by era but I won’t take the easy way out (and even that would have been tough)

I have to go with 3 movies that rekindled my love for Disney.

1 - Lion King - Elton John’s music here is as perfect as you get for a musical. Bonus points that it’s one of my favorite Broadway Musicals (Hamilton actually being my favorite- am I allowed to vote for it because it’s on Disney+)

2 - Aladdin

3 - The Little Mermaid (with Beauty and the Beast as an honorable mention)

1. Mary Poppins
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Tough call…I’m between Moana, Encanto, and Aladdin. It depends on the day, which I would choose. Probably have to give the edge to Aladdin though, as my oldest had it on repeat when he was a little guy. Very sentimental.

SAFD:

1. Encanto-This is really bizarre for me, because I’ve intentionally stopped trying to keep up with music, but it’s one of the newest entries in the Disney musical lore that has my heart. I love all of the songs. Just hits all the right notes for me.

2. Little Mermaid- Music carries the film. “Part of Your World” is the quintessential Disney song of my childhood. I will ride Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid multiple times in a row when it’s a walk-on (so basically every time I’m in MK) just to hear the music multiple times.

3. Princess and the Frog- Another where the music really makes the movie for me.

Spoilt for choice though, really, I could name another 10 movies and feel bad I left something out. I do think Frozen has started to become underrated because it was and is so ubiquitous; it gets my only named honorable mention.

I really want to put Lion King, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Aladdin, and many more on there. Only having three spots is too hard.

Does King Louie count as a villain for the purpose of best villain song? (Asking for DH).

1. Hercules. Easy, and by a lot. I can't WAIT to see it on stage in London in November!
2. Enchanted. Clever, modern AND still quintessentially Disney.
3. Hunchback. Mostly for "Out There", which is in my top 5 all time Disney songs.

WELL THEN


I honestly can only think of one pure Disney soundtrack I’d put on the list: The Lion King. Pressed for more, I might add The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Of recent movies, I would say Moana and Frozen.

BUT, since I can use Marvel and Star Wars…

1. The Empire Strikes Back. I’ll limit myself to one Star Wars movie, and while Empire isn’t my favorite, it’s by far my favorite total soundtrack.
2. Thor Ragnarok. I’ll also limit myself to one MCU movie. Ragnarok my favorite Marvel movie and I love the score by Mark Mothersbaugh. Although the new Fantastic Four score by Michael Giacchino is, well, fantastic!
3. The Lion King. It’s my favorite Disney movie and I adore the music, especially from the stage musical.

I’ll add an honorable mention for Giacchino in general - his Pixar scores are all so good and have such memorable themes, even Cars 2, which I despise. Lightyear also has a great score, and the themes for Ratatouille, Incredibles, and Up are iconic.
