Marathon Weekend 2026

Also staying at Pop, but would switch to Swolphin in a heartbeat if prices dropped. Didn't know that the fall was a good time for that, so I won't give up hope!
Because Swan/Dolphin host so many conferences their rates and availability tend to be impacted by room blocks. When those blocks release you can usually get them for decent prices. For example, right now I can't even book either Swan/ Dolphin for my MW dates - given the size of the properties that says to me there's a significant number of rooms blocked off. I've ended up finding better rates in late fall for 3 of the last 4 MW. (I didn't check for MW 2024 as I was solo and wanted to try out Pop - which I really enjoyed).

I'll try to post here if I see rates drop.

I love the monorail access and the location in general (it was our first home resort), so we're staying at BLT and can't wait!
I've stayed at BLT for the last few marathon weekends. Be sure to submit your room request to DVC (I use live chat) about a month out. I always ask for a high floor on the side of the building away from MK as those fireworks can get LOUD.

The allure of Crescent Lake always draws me back.
SAME. I am back at BWV standard view for this coming MW. Shaking it up to see how much I miss monorail access.

I have a 1BR at OKW for the weekend. I want to stay in DVC, but also didn't want that crazy walk to the car that some of these resorts have (looking at you BWV)
We stayed one night at BWV this past MW and haaaaaaated how far away the parking lot was. To be fair, we are used to SSR/OKW for stays but it was soooo far to get our stuff to/from the room.

Omitted from SSR club as well. Three of us racing in one room and went for poly studio because of two showers. Heard Pop is a happening place as well
Same! We are also three people in a Poly Studio. I was shocked I got it. Still am!
Our waitlist came through for Poly for MW! I am so excited about MW, I thought about it my whole run today, visualizing myself there.
Party at the Poly! Trying to think of a P running word. Poly Pacers? But I’m slow. No one should pace with me, haha!

I’m back from my week in Vegas for dance nationals which is as terrible as it sounds. It was at Resorts World. One day I ran towards Freemont St and played some slots and bussed back. Another day I went the other way with plans to go to Mandalay Bay but ended up at MGM because the sidewalks were annoying. I saw a guy basically run down a bit and around the escalators and thought that was smart.

But I’ve officially started training for the marathon! Just finished my 4 mile with intervals. It was my first interval run this cycle and went well. The last mile was super hot so I ran the shade, walked the sun instead of 60/30 but it worked. It wasn’t been super duper hot here yet but it’s lows of 85 so I try to start right at the low time and go from there. Now that I’m typing that I’m thinking maybe I should start a bit before so it gets slightly cooler as I run. But that means getting up earlier…. Hmmmm…..

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). After today's swim, I mean run in high humidity, I'm inspired to discuss hydration. How do you stay hydrated during these hot, humid summer runs? Seriously, this time of year would be so much better with a pair of accessory gills.

SAFD: I've tried a lot of hydration gear over the years. Handhelds, Nathan Trailmix belts, Camelbacks, Orange Mud Hydraquivers and vest packs, just to name a few. I've settled on the UltraSpire SpeedGoat at this point. Having two 0.5L bottles provides a good amount of capacity while allowing me to carry a couple of different fluids at the same time, if needed. The belt doesn't spin like others I've tried and leaves my back free to breathe, unlike backpack style reservoirs. The bottles also make it super easy to refill from a water fountain or cooler if I need to extend my run. As far as what goes in it, on training runs I generally use Propel or Powerade Zero. When I use it during a longer race, the two bottles are perfect to have one with water and the other with Tailwind. There's also a single bottle version I use when I don't need a full liter load out. It took me a long time to find this setup, but I'm glad I've settled on it.

SAFD: I used to use a small Nathan handheld, but I hated having something on my hand for the whole run. So I found one of those magnetic waist pouches that holds a small bottle. Due to how my body is shaped, the best place for a pouch is at the small of my back, which takes a little getting used to (and some major hand/no-eye coordination) The bottle is easy to get refilled if I need it.

But really, this summer, I've been battling heat-induced dehydration by running inside on the treadmill, which is pretty boring for easy runs.

SAFD great question! After today’s run I was thinking I really need to be bringing some water or electrolytes with me. I don’t have a good answer so im taking notes. I do have somewhere a water bottle strap to make carrying a water bottle easier. I used that a lot before but I’m sure there’s better options.

SAFD:

I have a few things I use depending on the duration of the run and the temperatures. I will sometimes leave a water bottle next to a road sign for my out-and-back or T-shaped runs. I also have a nathan belt with 2 8oz bottles. (Actually I have 2 of them because I wanted to have an extra available for DH or one of the kids when they run in the summer.) And I also have a nathan vest with an assortment of soft flasks in addition to the 1.8L reservoir. I like to mostly fill that one with ice and it helps keep me cool for about an hour before my body heat has melted all of the ice and warmed the water.

And salt. Salty food. Salty hyration drinks (liquid IV is our mix of choice due to the sale price we can get at costco.)

SAFD: I’ve always used a Nathan handheld. I fill it with 1/2 strength liquid iv. I stop at my local park coming and going to use the drinking fountain and bottle filler(on the way back).

Today I’m back in Nebraska and did a 12 miler. The weather was amazingly cool earlier but I still have high hydration needs so I drove to a trailhead and went east for half of it and refilled my handheld at my car and then went west for the remainder which worked fabulously.

SAFD: Most of the time I use a Naked belt with two 8oz soft flasks filled with Skratch. If I'm running more than 90 minutes or so, I'll try to plan my route to go by a water fountain so I can refill. I've been working on how to add more electrolytes to my refills, and so far haven't really found a good way to do it while running (it doesn't hurt me to stop a little longer during my training runs, but I'd like to be able to do it more efficiently during a race).

For longer runs, I have a Salomon vest that has two 500mL flasks that go in the front plus 1.5L in the back. Usually I'll put Skratch in the front and plain water in the back just for a little variety.

SAFD: Floridian chiming in! I lost 3.5lbs on a slow 6-miler yesterday, and that’s with consuming 12oz of Tailwind during the run plus an 8oz glass of water + a cup of coffee pre-run. Hydration is no joke in FL summer. (Temp was 85, feels like 95 - at sunrise. Ouch.)

I carry a 12oz handheld bottle that fits my hand perfectly: no gripping required. I can add more water as needed at public drinking fountains. Preferred electrolytes are Tailwind for a 5-6 mile run, Gatorade if I do a short run before breakfast, and Nuun if I’m running longer than 6 miles, in which case I’ll be using gels for fuel. Nuun post-run. I drink to thirst, which winds up being 1-2oz every 1/2 mile - I have iSmoothRun set up to notify me each 1/2 mile and that’s my cue to sip and switch hands holding the bottle.

I’ve not gone more than 3.8 miles yet… so can get away with not having to carry water, although it’s been really hot here all week so might have to start when I go a bit further. I don’t really like carrying stuff, and the belt I have jiggles around too much so I’ve given up on that!

SAFD: I've tried hydration vests and just can't stand them especially in summer - makes me even hotter!

I don't run any races in the summer so we're only talking training runs- if it's too hot (like today - T+D was 157 at 10am) I'll hit the gym. Otherwise I'll adjust my runs so that I pass my house every 10-15k to grab a new bottle of water or Gatorade/ Powerade. Anything less than 10K I can carry it on my belt.
