Marathon Weekend 2025

Tom at wdwnt have Cake Bake Shop a pretty glowing review. Sure things are expensive, but that's ok when they're spectacular.
I’ve seen similar sentiment in the reviews I’ve seen, people really seem to be enjoying the food and experience even with the hard to swallow prices. Not sure it will ever be on my to-do list (getting to the boardwalk area is not a regular occurrence), but I’m somewhat shocked at the near complete reversal of sentiment toward the place in a matter of days.

Oh, you should wear your race costume to MNSSHP, be the last person out of MK, then go wait on the monorail to take you to Epcot for the 5k. That would be legendary!
Wearing it for both was my original thought, but then the thought about wearing the same costume from 2-3pm through to 7am the next day (and running in it) didn't thrill me. Plus, I got to think up an extra costume!

I'm still a bit skeptical as most of the folks going now are the influencers and Disney die-hards who may not be the most objective. That said, I may try and pop by later this week when I'm there solo.

Anyone running the Tokyo marathon next year? It is less than two months after MW so I am wondering how I should handle training between Goofy and Tokyo...
I did Tokyo this year after doing Dopey. I have done other marathons close together (NYC then Dopey for example). I think I actually prefer this since you won't be starting from scratch. I took a week off of running after Dopey and then just picked up my same training plan wherever it falls. If I recall for Tokyo it meant I did three long runs (18+) between MW and Tokyo.

Yeah, I remember seeing some discussion a few months ago about influencers and parties and how basically if they didn’t only talk about things in glowing terms, Disney would not give them their free tickets, etc.

SAFD: No W&D for me but I am seriously considering retiring from MW to do W&D. I did the Food and Wine festival once (I was at the Swan and Dolphin for a conference) and loved it. I also think I can talk my wife into dong the challenge there (she was a one and done marathoner unfortunately).

Hope everyone's training is going well. I have been struggling for months. Went out for a 14 mile run yesterday and sat for few minutes after 3 miles contemplating turning back as my head wasn't in it. I managed to push through and ended up running sub 9 minute miles for the last 10 miles and felt great. So glad I pushed through. Curious if others have issues in the first few miles? What do you do? I have come to like out-and-back runs for long runs because every mile out guarantees I have to do it again to get back.

Thanks! The only "mandatory" characters for me are anyone from the Haunted Mansion and CLARABELLE. It seems she's always out in a different race from the one I'm doing. :P
Clarabelle is on my list as well… was hoping to FINALLY meet her last fall on a visit to DL however aside from a few heroes in avengers campus we had bad luck with finding characters out
That thread is rather insane. I can only surmise that there are some travel agents who are financially vested in people going to the CBS because I cannot understand why they would be so defensive of Disney’s outrageous prices.
I haven’t seen the thread on here but over on social media it’s been a riot
Kind of off-topic, but we are working on plans with the in-laws….GotG is still a VQ and $ILL right? Not part of whatever the new paid fast pass system is? Trying to figure out the best way to get on it 2x in 1 day
VQ, Lightning Lane Single Pass (fka Individual Attraction Selection Lightning Lane) or if you have the $$$$ Premiere Lightning Lane

As for SAFD: I’m on the MW thread mainly for the comradery though I’d love to look into volunteering if not too late in the game lol

That said this season in it for the 5k & 10k next week as well as in April (the first non wine & dine weekend my sister will also be participating in)

This happens to me quite a bit, and is one of the reasons I do out-and-back runs. Generally speaking, I can convince myself to get to a specific turnaround spot, and by the time I'm on my way back things have improved. I blame it on age, although being undertrained is probably the more likely issue for me currently.

Volunteering isn't "a thing" any more and the races are staffed by a contract/temp type company. All workers at aid stations are paid at this point.

(At least this is my understanding, and if I'm wrong I'll be happy to come back and cross all of this out.)

The first few miles are always crappy for me. Basically because I've just gotten up, I'm still tired, my legs aren't loose yet, and I just want to crawl back into bed. My neighborhood is made up of 8 separate subdivisions, so I can vary my routes, which makes it less monotonous, and there's a big hill at the bottom, so sometimes I use that as an extra challenge or motivation for extra walk breaks. :D I listen to podcasts on my easy runs and just try to zone out and take it easy. Usually after two miles I feel looser and it's a lot easier to run. This morning was not the case, but it's a Monday. :P

I like out-and-back runs (or all-or-nothing loops) for this same reason, but I don't always have time to go to one of those, so I have to make do with running near my house, but that increases the chance of quitting early

The only review I've seen so far has been from Tim Tracker (and Nick, aka Theme Park Dad), and I usually think Tim is pretty fair in his reviews because he usually pays for everything himself. If he's comped, he'll say so. And even then, I've seen him give lukewarm reviews.
I watched a few on Friday since it was a slow work day. I've seen glowing reviews and I've seen critical reviews. The first WDWNT review tasted three different cakes and the chocolate peanut butter mousse pie. The three cakes all had the same base and ranged from great to dry. So inconsistency there. Other reviews are showing me it depends on what someone orders. Theme Park Foodies ordered dishes that did not impress, and looked quite sad. And the two other reviews I watched were in-between.

At this point I'm not sure if that's usual, or if it's due to the soft opening. Either way, the shop has a long way to go on consistency to get me in the door at those prices.

I think a lot of it was price but I thought it was funny that they finally revealed what the inside looked like and people were like "oh wow, this place is actually really fancy". That was the entire point! It's a fancy place for people to do celebratory meals, I thought the target audience was engagements, honeymoons, baby showers and stuff. And people who want to treat themselves.

SAFD: W&D Half for me. First time getting into double digit distances since last Dec… and I’ve honestly not loved it. Yes, there is the infernal heat of FL summer + 3 hurricanes in a row causing mayhem where I live - I’ve vowed not to register for W&D again, or if I really can’t resist, to only do one of the shorter distances: this time of year is just too hard on me without adding a long distance race into the mix. But also I may just be done with long distances.

Next race is MW Half, so I’ll aim to back down my long run distances a bit and build back up for that. I haven't even looked at a calendar past early November, let alone plotted out any training. We’ve got forecasters sniffing around yet another potential storm brewing in the Caribbean, so my planning is only extending about 3 days at a time right now. #overit

We were considering the Polar Opposite Peachtree.
I don’t like the date relative to MW, but that aside I really can’t decide if it sounds fun or a terrible idea. 😂
I did Peachtree once when I was spending some work time in Atlanta, and despite HATING hot weather, it's one of the best races I've ever done. I love running in the cold and this sounds awesome, but there's no way I can take any more days off around MW to squeeze this in.
