Marathon Weekend 2025

I’ve never done this but thought there were other places to get this done too so I looked it up in case people were wondering…

“While you can take care of this at places like Fantasy Faire and Box Office Gifts in Magic Kingdom Park, Cast Members can also embroider Mickey Mouse Ear Hats at Gateway Gifts in EPCOTand Disney's Wonderful World of Memories in Disney Springs.”
Thanks for the info on getting ears embroidered. This is on my list to do before I leave.

This is most likely going to be a one-and-done Dopey Challenge for me, so I really want a Dopey shirt.
And put me in the camp of may be only time I’m running at Disney so I would love help in securing a dopey jacket or something dopey.

I had such a bad experience trying to get my ear hat embroidered in 2023. I went the Monday evening after the marathon to the shop just on the right when you enter Magic Kingdom. The CMs were running around in a frenzy, there was a long line of annoyed runners waiting to pick up there hats, you could just feel the tension in the air (they were having trouble finding people's hats). Basically the CM taking orders acted like I was the world's biggest idiot for thinking they would be accepting any more hats at that point. Soooooo....don't wait until Monday to get your hat embroidered? Go on Sunday afternoon? Wait until Tuesday if you're still there after the races? It's Disney so they don't put signs on doors when services are closed, but phew, I'm too traumatized to even attempt to do that again :rotfl:

Another vote for Fairlife. I like the shelf stable nutrition plan they sell at Costco. Though like others I've never tried it room temp...

I'm watching a video from this year's marathon, and can we please manifest the Dapper Dans singing the National Anthem again?

Or, alternatively, who would you love to see perform the anthem? I'd also love the Casey's Corner pianist or Main Street Philharmonic.
As a former military musician, I am a big fan of anyone who sings or plays the national anthem EXACTLY how it was written and does not turn it into a self-aggrandizing opportunity to showcase how talented they think they are. It's supposed to be a respectful tribute to our country, not Star Search. But that's just my opinion....

I would love to hear it performed by an instrumental group like a brass quintet or something similar. I really enjoyed the piano version that was played before the 5K at the Disneyland Halloween 5K.

My family had season tickets to MLS teams, and then I had season tickets in Dallas. If this doesn't describe the random singers they got, I don't know what does. The best I heard was while I was still in Boston. The Revs were able to get the brass quintet from the Boston Pops and they were wonderful!

To the random singers, you ain't Whitney Houston, so don't even try.

Recent studies have shown that you dont need to get protein in as quickly as they used to say. Muscles remain sensitive for protein for up to 24 hours after a hard workout! I always try and get protein is as quickly as I can, but I also like to respect my appetite in that moment and sometimes protein is not what I want straight away!

It’s always been bro-science that you have to consume protein within 30 minutes of a workout, yet the myth still persists. Protein synthesis to rebuild muscles begins within 2-4 hours after a workout and the growth factor hormones can remain elevated for up to 24 hours. I can’t eat at all after a marathon, but I’ll drink the Powerade they hand you to replenish my glycogen stores. If people want to chow down, nothing wrong with that, but not for me. I also don’t understand the parking lot beer. I thought I would want one after my first marathon, but carbonated booze at 8:30 in the morning made me sick looking at it.

Amen brother! Dittos!

How do we feel about a spoken word version?

To each their own! After Dopey that IPA in the parking lot hit the spot. I'm not a mid-exercise drinker, so Epcot drinks at the tail end of the marathon isn't for me, but I have no issues with it post-race. I just make sure I'm also drinking water/electrolyte drink so I don't get completely dehydrated 👍

Pro tip for first-timers looking forward to the marathon ears: GET THEM EMBROIDERED! I didn't even think of it after finishing my first marathon, but have done so after both my Dopey finishes. You can get a name, date, time, whatever you want on them at MK. The shop is kind of hidden in the back corner of the expo hall, on the right as you come in. Fair warning that it can take some time to get it back with thousands of racers doing the same (like maybe not same day), so plan accordingly for park access. Or (I think) you can have them shipped. Someone correct me if that's wrong.
I so wish they had given out hats at my first marathon! Maybe I'll get something embroidered this year to signify my 10 year anniversary of runDisney. (I was also a "one-and-done" bahaha)

This is the nice part about being local - I can bring my hat to be embroidered whenever I want! :)

You can also get the ears painted at the Christmas shop!
Yep I got my 2019 ears embroidered here during Princess 2020 weekend because I forgot to do at MW lol....

Questions about merch:
I just went online to pre purchase the women jacket in S and it is sold out!!! I now regret not buying it during registration 😔

Will it get replenished for pre purchase until the race?
Should I get the XS and try to exchange it at the expo? (The say no returns or exchanges…)
Is there any chance I can get one at the expo? I am flying in on the Wednesday around 10:30 and will try to get a VQ as soon as we land…but won’t be in the first to get in…
Thanks 😊

My experience is at Disneyland races in January 2024. I pre-ordered medium spirit jersey (I legitimately thought it would fit me) but then I realized it was too big and I was allowed to exchange it for small at the pickup location.
I went to the Expo on the late evening of the first day.

No, but they will have it available for sale at the expo. This is where getting a good queue number, or having someone help out if you don't is imporant.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they were doing exchanges on pre-orders this year. They were also not allowing people to retro-actively apply their AP or DVC discounts for pre-orders (which is something they did in 2023 I believe)

Smalls are usually one of the first sizes to go, and we never know how inventory will be (see 2024's purple Dopey jacket as an example.) If this is 100% a must-have item for you, it would be a good idea to see if someone would grab it for you and then meet up somewhere. Also, since I've been doing rD races, the trend has been for things such as jackets and hoodies *for women* to run small.
