Marathon Weekend 2025

SAFD:

I started out in Saucony Hurricane (RIP) then switched to Saucony Tempus. Unfortunately, although I loved the feel of the shoe its frame was too rigid and it caused my peroneal tendon to flare up a bit.

Changed the shoes up on advice of my PT and after being fitted now run mainly in Brooks Glycerin GTS. Absolutely love them BUT it does cause a persistent hot spot on the side of my foot below my big toe.

Now wearing the Ghost 15 for easy treadmill runs and going to try both a half size up in the Glycerin and the non-GTS version. Only one of my feet really needs correction from pronation so I'm hoping by working on some foot exercises I can go to neutral shoes. Otherwise, I'll be forever putting moleskin on that toe
As I read through these posts, I have to chuckle at the irony that for so many of us (myself included) we have health-related issues that we likely would not have if we weren't spending so much time exercising and trying to be healthier.....

What are thoughts on if there will be after-hours tickets during/directly after MW? I recall there being some in 2023 (I think a few in here did HS and then rolled straight into the 5k?) but with how close it was to NYE/D for 2024, there weren't any. We are planning a very park-light trip, but AH is something I could probably get DH on-board with, especially if it was on the Monday after the marathon.....
I did the AH at HS the night before the 5K in 2023, but I was only doing Goofy so I could sleep in the next morning. My roommate did the 5K because he was doing Dopey and I remember how amazing it was to roll back over and go to sleep after he left the room. 🤣

As someone who used to be on daily medication for GERD and had to use a CPAP at night, I'll gladly trade those for the more acute aches and pains associated with being healthier.

I’ll take my mildly-effed up Achilles over the prospect of cholesterol meds for the rest of my life. I went from borderline high bad cholesterol and borderline low good cholesterol before I started running to having everything in normal ranges after running, without changing my (admittedly terrible 😄) diet.

Oh, absolutely in agreement there. My overall health is definitely much better in recent years, occasional joint maladies aside. Nope, wouldn't trade it either.

Good afternoon RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). So far this year we've discussed our favorite snacks and places to sit down and celebrate after the races in each park. Let's finish the set this week. What are your favorite counter service restaurants at each Disney park?

SAFD:
A couple of parks are easy for me and a couple are tougher to pick a favorite from.

Magic Kingdom: This one's super easy. It's Columbia Harbour House. One of my absolute favorites of all time. I love the lobster roll and clam chowder. They've even brought the sourdough bread bowl for the chowder back in recent years! I'll typically eat here several times during a typical MW.

Epcot: RIP Tangierine Cafe. It was my go-to favorite in the World Showcase and I'm still sad it didn't make it back after the pandemic. In its absence I'll have to promote either Regal Eagle Smokehouse or La Cantina de San Angel.

Animal Kingdom: This one really depends on my mood. My classic favorite is Flame Tree Barbecue. The new favorite giving it a run for my money is Satu'li Canteen.

Hollywood Studios: Historically, I've had difficulty finding something I enjoyed here. Until I found the ABC Commissary. Now their shrimp tacos are one of my favorites, warranting multiple trips during a MW.

With the caveat that I try to avoid eating in the parks, in general......

MK: Used to be Columbia Harbor House. The chowder in a bread bowl was good, along with one particular salad--which I can't remember and they no longer have.

AK: Satu'li no question. I would go out of my way to eat here

HS: Hmm....I always have been a "coffee and a nibble" eater here, and they closed the Writer's Stop, so yeah. I do admit to caving in and trying Totchos last time I was there. As junk food goes, it was tasty.

Epcot: Only slightly a cheat....The Rose and Crown Pub....unless of course they won't serve you food anymore. Don't see it on their current menu.

SAFD--

MK: I would say Sleepy Hollow, but apparently they're taking away the nutella waffle and the spicy chicken waffle?! So I guess IDK. Does the eggroll cart count? Or the dolewhip counter?

Epcot: the place with the baklava in Morocco, but if that doesn't count then I guess Les Halles (because I'm QUITE sure the avocado marg/La Cava doesn't count.)

AK: Satu'li. Is this even a question?

HS: ABC Commissary.

SAFD:

Magic Kingdom - Meh, the quick service options aren’t great here. I did love the Nutella/fruit and chicken waffles at Sleepy Hollow womp.

Animal Kingdom - Flametree Barbeque or Satuli Canteen. I can’t pick! And sometimes end up with kids meals as snacks at both of them throughout the day!

Epcot - La cantina de San Angel - always my post marathon go to! Also really like Regal Eagle.

Hollywood Studios - not technically quick service but on the rare occasion I pop into this park, it’s usually for the Hollywood Brown Derby lounge. I also love the pretzel and charcuterie from baseline.

SAFD:

MK-Gaston’s Tavern for the cinnamon roll and Le Fou’s Brew (can’t stand the chemical/medicinal taste of Butterbeer, but I really like its competitor). I’ll count this as a meal because sharing a cinnamon roll is pretty much all I want for breakfast as a non-breakfast person.

AK-Satu’li- I don’t remember the last time we’ve eaten anywhere other than Satu’li for a quick service meal in AK.

HS-Don’t remember if I used it for snack as well but I really enjoy Ronto Roasters. The wraps are somewhere between a meal and a snack for me and can serve either purpose. If I’m eating a full one it’s definitely a meal.

Epcot-I’m sure I picked Les Halles for the snack side and I’m tempted to stretch it the same way I did with Ronto Roasters because it can be snack or meal depending on what I get. Chalk me up as another for La Cantina de San Angel if I’m looking for something more substantial.

SAFD:

Magic Kingdom: Columbia Harbor House - it's a must do every visit.

Animal Kingdom: Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafe - the fried rice is one of my favourites.

DHS: Baseline Tap House - Charcuterie board, a flight of California Beers and some people watching is a great way to relax on a busy park day.

Epcot: Honestly too many options - I'll take almost anything in world showcase. If I have to pick, I'll go with Cantina de San Angel (unless I can count Cava!)

That’s it… I’m doing the tap house next trip. Heard way too many good things about that place

SAFD:
MK—Cosmic Ray’s, simply because when our older son was young, he was fascinated with Sonny Eclipse.
EP—the food court at the Land. There are lots of tasty options there.
AK—Satu’li. There’s nothing else like it. I just wish they would bring back the vegetarian bao buns.
HS—Ronto Roasters. We’ve only been there once, but it was delicious.

The bartenders there are great too - and don't let a long lineup fool you - they move the line really quickly - grab a spot outside and enjoy. My DW isn't a beer person but she likes the selection of California wines. On MW it seems like everyone there is wearing a medal or a race shirt!
