Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: mostly here. I follow the official RunDisney FB and Insta accounts. And I'm in a few RunDisney related FB groups, but more often than not I end up snoozing them because the questions are so repetitive.
Yes! There needs to be FAQs. 1. Yes, you have to go the expo. 2. No, you can't walk to the start line. 3. All Disney hotels are host hotels.

Etc.

@Baloo in MI Oof! Sorry to hear about your basement! I hear ya on needing to thin down on things kept down there. If it's not a keepsake, pictures or things of that nature and hasn't been touched in years then it's probably time to get rid of it. Now following thru with that is a different story!

SAFD: I keep up here, rD IG page and a few rD pages on FB. <--- I'd prefer not to be in those but sometimes they're helpful.

I did just see Carissa started a podcast but I haven't listened to it yet.
Thank you for mentioning this, I'm going to give it a listen. I always enjoy all the energy and encouragement Carissa & Co bring to the races. Maybe they'll be good for training runs too!🏃‍♀️ For anyone else interested, the podcast is called 321 Go! and her cohost is, unsurprisingly, John Pelkey.

SAFD: I get most of my info here on DIS, but I do also follow a couple of runDisney-related FB groups for funsies. I will echo the sentiment that they need a FAQ section that you are required to read before you post a question. Geez Louize I'm tired of the same 5 questions over and over again. 🤣
That's why at least one of the groups made Bingo cards.

I think ‘it’ is being treated like a banned website, except we don’t have a web address to type in to see if it is banned or not.

Moving along…

SAFD: I get most my runDisney info here. It’s possible I might see Brooke McDonald or Scott Gustin post on Instagram or Twitter first.

Boy, that bit of drama sucked the air out of this thread in a hurry. Since we will never know exactly what went on and why, I thought I would take the high road and change the subject with a QOTD... What is the best thing you like about the Dis Boards runDisney threads?

I like the fact that we can share our joys and disappointments in a positive (perhaps enabling environment in a good way) fashion. Running at times can be a lonely individual endeavor and I appreciate the support I find here.

I like that there's so much experience here, in a wide variety of methods, and a willingness to share. I would have absolutely have made so many more mistakes than I already was starting as a runner, if it hadn't been for these boards and the training journals. It was definitely a breath of fresh air to have people who could kindly give me a reality check, and say that yes these things are possible, but you need to go about this a different way to have the greatest chance for success. And that while we have some very fast runners in here, there's not an elitist mindset or condescension toward runners with slower paces or those who have found that run/walk works best for them.

Totally confused with hints that some drama happened? I don’t see anything, but maybe it was deleted and I’m not sure I care to know LOL

Anyway……moving on…

ATTQOTD: I like that it’s a smaller group of posters in here vs other social media sites. It lets get to “know” people a little better. I do question the longevity of Disboards in its current state and would be sad to see it go.

As someone with a limited circle of people IRL into distance running (let alone Disney/WDW) and coming from a more casual running background than many here, I appreciate the virtual ‘community’ here who take the time to post and share their insights. I mainly lurked for my first Dopey last year and as the training went on I found the things being discussed (eg, nutrition, gear, etc) incredibly helpful, plus the mental boost of hearing about others going through the same thing. I’m also not on other social media so it’s a convenient resource to keep up with runD news/info.

And just for clarity on how the DIS works, I am not a mod on this board, I can only see/do moderator things on my board (Resorts) - so just a poster reading along here like everyone else.

These boards might go away? That would be sad and unfortunate for all of us.
