Marathon Weekend 2024

SAFD: Teacups! So many fun family memories of my DDs trying to spin it fast to make DH hurl. Good times. Luckily they were never successful.
The first time I took my kids to WDW, back in 2004 or so, we went on the teacups as our first ride at MK. They got that teacup spinning like a washing machine in the spin cycle! It pretty much wrecked my day. Definitely a rookie mistake I've never made again!:rotfl2:

I’ve been checking for SAFD today. Where is everyone?
Baloo hasn’t been on today. Think we’re just in the dog days of summer, bit of a lull around here before things start to ramp up again with Springtime Surprise registration, should get medal pics for both January race weekends in about a month (last year we got MW pics on 8/29). In the meantime it’s just kinda quiet around here in general.

Also… tough to come up with a topic every week. I feel like this ends up happening here and there for every MW since I’ve kept up with it.

Well shoot! I’ll do one!

SAFD: where do you go (or do you NOT) for your race-related info aside from rundisney’s website? Who/what are your favorites?

I get a ton of my details (the nitty gritty about course info, etc) here, obviously. I also get extra details from rise and run podcast as well as runners without limits podcast. I don’t do much with YouTube or insta (mostly because I don’t fully understand how insta works 😂)

Great question!
I was actually wondering about Rundisney Podcasts… I will take a look at those!
I like to listen to No-guilt Disney podcast (although they are not strictly rundisney related) and scroll trough their website https://noguiltdisney.com/category/running/

For RD? I seem to pick up random posts here and there on IG, I don’t follow anyone though. Occasionally I’ll watch youtube recaps of races, although I did that much more when I wanted to get a sense of what the marathon would be like. I was a big fan of what RunArnoRun was doing but he hasn’t done a RD event since MW 2020 (as I type this I checked to see what he’s up to and looks like he’s doing Chicago this year). Jar Oxenspoon is a fun account, I think he’s been there for most, if not all of the race weekends recently. And RunSota, who pops in here occasionally, does full POV vids of the races he runs.

Hey all,

My apologies on missing SAFD today. We woke up to a flooded basement and spent the whole morning pulling wet box after wet box out into the backyard - it was bad. And then just to make it that much more fun. It started to rain and we had to move everything from the backyard to the garage….

We lost a lot of stuff today and realized we had way too much in there! And as I wasI just sitting down to dinner it dawn on me that it is Sunday. Oooof! I will jump back in next week with a SAFD question and here is my answer to @Herding_Cats question:

I also listen to the Rise and Run Podcast. I follow a couple Dopey and runDIsney related Facebook groups and follow this along with several other Dis runDisney Threads! :)

Hope everyone has a good week and my advice. If your water heater is 10 or more years old maybe have it Inspected!

SAFD:

I get all of my information here. It’s the only Disney or rD site that I frequent. I’m not on social media and I figure I’ll see anything that an official Disney site/account releases when I check these forums anyway. I’m not at all fussed about being the first (or five thousandth) to know about anything.

Sorry for your difficulties, sounds like it was quite a day. Hope you didn’t lose anything that can’t be replaced. Good luck with any further clean up.

I will check out the feed for Rise and Run and listen when they have a topic I like. I used to listen to Mickey Miles but that has pretty much died at this point. I loved the original WDW Today so hearing Scopa was always a blast from the past.

Jeff Galloway started a podcast called "You can do it" but it looks like he might have abandoned that since the feed hasn't had anything in months. Over a year ago he had a really good Part 1 podcast on tails from the 1972 Olympics but never followed it up with a part 2.

Oh wow. Sorry you had to deal with that.
A few years ago, a day before I was leaving for Marathon Weekend. I noticed a little bit of water on the ground in my garage (water heater is in the garage). Now if it has rained, it’s not uncommon for water to be on the ground from where it has dripped off my car. So the first time I saw it, I didn’t think anything about it, but then I realized - it hadn’t rained! I found a leak dripping from the bottom of my water heater. I had to have my water heater replaced ‘after hours’, but I’m glad it happened before I left and not while I was gone for a week.

SAFD: I would say 90% of my info comes from this forum. I try not to over research too much. I find that with my other hobbies and activities, if I dig into too much info, I start to get burned out and then pull back away from it. Definitely don't to do that with running. So Disboards it is. I do have IG and Twitter and will follow the official RD accounts. And of course, Jogging Jack Sparrow. But that is about it.

SAFD: @Baloo in MI I am so sorry that happened!! We have been through that before as well and it is AWFUL.

I get most of my info here (obviously!) but also from social media and watching some YouTube videos. I tried the Rise and Run podcast and it didn't do it for me, but maybe I should give it another listen.

Thanks for the nice thoughts. Part of it was our own fault in that we had the cold storage area packed to the gills and unfortunately long ago began placing boxes right on the ground. The entire water heater leaked and the system was cycling more water until I got it all shut off. So everything that was on the ground was completely soaked.

Luckily our most valued items were spared (photos, Xmas stuff, mementos, etc) as they were on shelves. And we used the momentum of pulling all that stuff out to donate and toss quite a bit. But we really need to thin it down some more. Lesson learned that is for sure!

Oh, no! I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with that. I hope the damage is not so awful as it first appeared.

SAFD: I’m not on social media, so most of my info comes from here or official sources. I do occasionally watch YouTube for race videos, but that’s mostly to see other people’s race experiences and get inspired for the next race, rather than for info.
