Marathon Weekend 2023

And all my kids are sick. Oldest missed three days of school with a fever and younger two started in this morning with the fever. It's not flu, strep or Covid, so we just have to wait it out. Praying I'll avoid it somehow.
This has been us since beginning of October. So many urgent care and Dr visits only to be negative for everything and told it’s another one of the many viruses going around. I feel bad for my kids but I’m also like…please don’t put your face so close to mine 😂 this time last year I was so nervous about getting Covid. Now this year I’m nervous about catching any and all of the crud going around!!

I’m packing for our trip, and coming to the realization that I’m taking as much running clothes as I am regular clothes…

Also trying to figure out park shoes, since I think my usual sandals aren’t great for after the races

Good luck to everyone else with kiddos, sending you all healthy vibes. ✨ My kid had a GI bug last weekend followed by a weird virus a couple of days later (not flu, Covid or strep but still…poor kiddo!). My husband and I caught the virus, but somehow we didn’t get the GI bug…knock on wood. Hopefully my system is ready to stay healthy for the next few weeks after that!. I’ve been chugging water mixed with one of those little Emergen-C packets daily over the past week or two but I guess it was no match for a mystery daycare virus. 😒

I so feel this. My DD2 got invited to a birthday party on New Year's Day (who does that anyway?!), and I just broke it to her this morning that we are probably not going to go to it. She's 6, so she was a bit upset, but I'm like "we leave for Disney just a few days after that and we don't want to be stuck in a hotel room when there are rides to be ridden, right?!"

It's a stomach bug going around here, and I really don't need to be puking and needing to be near a bathroom instead of out running Dopey.

After Christmas, I'm hoping to not be around any other people until we fly down to Disney on 1/3.
Yeah, I love my friends but I've told them I'm not doing anything until after I get home from the races. No post-Christmas dinners, New Years. Gonna barricade myself in my house and go hard on ginger shots

Interesting that the marathon looks to be running on the Boardwalk side and not YC/BC like almost every previous year
I ran the Marathon in 2002 and it we used the Boardwalk side then - it was great. I remember that was mile 23 or 24 and everyone started having leg cramps and we were all stretching on the Boardwalk.

I feel for the kid who's birthday is on New Year's, but how many people have parties or family gatherings that day?!

Pouring one out for my fellow Christmas season birthday folks! Mine is December 30 (my poor dad is stuck with the 24th), and growing up we often shifted any parties to after the holidays just so people would show up. When I hit 21, the conflict became more about NYE than Christmas, but either way it sucks trying to celebrate on your actual birthday this time of year.

Weirdest cold front ever so far… it WARMED UP overnight, from 60 to 70, before plunging all day today to the low 30s by morning. Can confirm nobody knows how to drive in the rain here, no matter the temp. Can’t even imagine if we had ice!

I’d like to run in the morning, but we’ll see… I do have both thermal tights and thermal wind pants, and a million things I can layer on top, and it’s supposed to be sunny, but a wind chill in the 20s may be more than I can take. It’s my first cold weather snap with contacts - can I wear them in the cold?!

😂😂 yes you can run in the cold with contacts. You might blink a little more often. You could put sunglasses (or ones with untinted lenses) on to keep the wind out of your eyes.

Absolutely can! Like @Herding_Cats said, sunglasses are great for wind. My only issue with cold running and contacts is I tear up easily, and tend to get little icicles on my eyelashes. Good times!

My kid has a friend with a 12/26 birthday. Her parents let her choose a month to celebrate each year on her birthday. So, depending on what she wants to do, she picks different months. One year she wanted to do a water park, so she chose June. It's a creative solution.

I totally feel for you. My BFF's birthday is on Dec 25th. She and I always go out a few days before so we can celebrate appropriately, without giving her a present wrapped in green and red paper.

What a great idea!

The maps don’t specifically state the food at the stops. The sponsors are Sports Beans, Honey Stingers, and a produce supplier. Any word on what produce will be supplied? Holding out hope for some sliced oranges.
