Marathon Weekend 2017!

I had an animal encounter today. A squirrel darted in front of me in Animal Kingdom.

This reminds me I accidentally kicked a squirrel in America. Didn't even see it until it flew off my shoe

My animal encounter for the day was a raccoon on Bear Island Road - he stayed in the grass. Saw Meeko about 10 minutes later!

Today's Sundays are for Disney question: With marathon weekend in the books, how YOU doing?

Very emotional, like I could ugly cry at any moment. Mostly I'm just really relieved and really freaking proud of myself.

Ran my first-ever 5K last Thursday. Still floating. My wife and daughter saw me at the beginning and end. Talked to so many great people in the corral. My wife INSISTED that we get a picture of me and my medal in front of the castle!

HOLY COW THAT WAS FUN!

My daughter is already talking about doing next year's 5K with me! And I'm eyeing the 10K now...

I told her that I felt like I'd passed a threshold and I was part of "the gang" now. I am so glad I did this!

Congratulations!! you should totally give the 10K a shot!

Very sore and very sad it's over. We train for these things for so long and build the anticipation and then it seems like they are done in a flash! Like lightning, even! Too soon?

Dying but feeling so accomplished and proud. The pain will fade, but marathon finisher will always be able to describe me!

I know that I have mainly been a lurker, but thank you so much to this wonderful, supportive group.

I think the best story I got was in a discussion with a guy from Alaska about animal encounters while training. I had an angry goose. He had a bull moose. Needless to say he won.

@DopeyBadger I don't know if they played it when you went through but they played the badger fight song when I was in WWoS and that gave me a boost and I sang along!

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement @DOOM1001 and @camaker. I definitely feel at this point like with all I've accomplished so far, I need to go for a full marathon at some point. And no better place to do it than my favorite place in the world.

Feeling pretty good right now!! I took a 45 minute nap and that helped a lot. Then got up and went to dinner in MK. Now at Disney Springs hoping to see the last Light Show for this season.

Fantastic, but a little wistful. The 10K was the first time I've run with family, and I loved it. The canceled Half would have been my 6th in a row, and while I was elated to sleep in, it feels odd to have missed it. It's made me far more excited for next year. I'm on the bus back to MCO, already strategizing for registration.

I will post about my race experience later but I wanted to say that my DD27 kicked my butt and finished in 5:32. With no training. And negative splits. Super annoying. JK happy for her. I had a sad 6:23. I went out WAY too fast and it killed me in the end. But got my medal and am wearing it proudly. And I may have cried.

This was an ugly one for me. I guess all the injury things that derailed me throughout the season caught up today. I finished but it was ugly there at the end but finished regardless. The cold really killed me waiting for the start and then we lost a lot of time in MK when my hubby had some GI issues. Felt okay through about mile 16 or so but started struggling after that and really fought it the last 6 miles when my PF kicked in hard. We did get lots of good character meets and lots to enjoy today but wish it could have been a stronger race for me. So glad to hear that many of you killed it!!

Last night here and didn't want to miss it even though we are staying off property. Usually try to hit it twice So I can get the prime rib and the etouffee but it didn't work out this time.

I kept debating going back to my room. I had about an hour to kill, and I was cold. Glad I stayed though, it was pretty awesome. Hopefully they will continue to have shows like this.
