Marathon Weekend 2017!

I will post about my race experience later but I wanted to say that my DD27 kicked my butt and finished in 5:32. With no training. And negative splits. Super annoying. JK happy for her. I had a sad 6:23. I went out WAY too fast and it killed me in the end. But got my medal and am wearing it proudly. And I may have cried. :)
Congrats on your first marathon! Proud of you!
This was an ugly one for me. I guess all the injury things that derailed me throughout the season caught up today. I finished but it was ugly there at the end but finished regardless. The cold really killed me waiting for the start and then we lost a lot of time in MK when my hubby had some GI issues. Felt okay through about mile 16 or so but started struggling after that and really fought it the last 6 miles when my PF kicked in hard. We did get lots of good character meets and lots to enjoy today but wish it could have been a stronger race for me. So glad to hear that many of you killed it!!
Proud of you and Chris! You guys have had some challenges and I'm so impressed that you pulled through. Love the beer shot!

Let's do this one more time...

Good morn...er, evening, runDisney All- Stars! It's approximately 52 weeks from the 2018 marathon.

Today's Sundays are for Disney question: With marathon weekend in the books, how YOU doing?

Hooray, we did it! I cried like a little baby when I crossed the finish line!!

I hung with the 5-hour pace group for 20 miles, then had to stop at the world's slowest port-a-potty line and just couldn't get moving again! I lost ~6 minutes at the port-a-potty and ended up finishing in 5:16. So I slowed down pretty dramatically, lol, I think I got a little psyched out by the fact that I still had like an HOUR to run! But anyway am super super happy with my time for my first marathon!!!

Thank you all so, so much for being such an amazing supportive community! So proud of everyone!!

I just want to say I've been lurking on here all weekend.... virtual high fives to all that participated.
I did my first rundisney and first 10k in Nov and loved it.... my goal is to be confident enough to do the full or maybe even Dopey for WDWs 50th anniversary year with plenty of Disney Races in between

Oh and I thought the weather was incredible. So sorry to those of you who had a tough time with it! I was so cool and comfy!

Where's that "Dislike" button when you really need it!

Just kidding! As bad as it was for me and some others it was the cold weather folks' turn to be comfortable after last year's warm & humid race.

I didn't mind the weather for running. That was actually pretty great, but hanging around for 2 hours in the staging areas and the corrals was pretty miserable. I had lots of layers and a Mylar wrap but that wind was pretty brutal just huddled there.

I also ran into someone leaving Tower of Terror, but I have to apologize for not remembering now who it was.
I saw you @FFigawi! Recognized that dimpled chin and red sparkle skirt. You were leaving ToT and headed for Rockin' Roller Coaster! It was so quick that I didn't see who was with you.
Also thanks to Billy @DopeyBadger who cheered me through the finish line!
Feeling proud to have finished my 2nd marathon 20 minutes faster than last year and my first Dopey, even though the half was the unofficial Pop/ AoA inaugural event. I must say it was actually a lot of fun, and it made me fell like I earned my Dopey!

A bit late to the party, but I wanted to thank everyone for a great "virtual" race on Saturday for the half marathon. At Fort Wilderness, at least 100 runners were out there, after the weather cleared, getting in their 13.1 miles. On top of that, many folks at the Fort were out there cheering on the runners. While it wasn't the "real" race, it will be one of the most memorable Disney races I have had the good fortune to run in.

Congrats to all the 5k, 10k, half, and full runners this year - plus the Goofy & Dopey (& Grumpy ) runners!

Bert

Few thoughts. Firstly though race, excellent well done to everyone, particularly those who completed their first marathon!
Wasn't impressed they ran out of coffee before the race, that made for a tricky start.
Punishing on the hamstrings, little chance to warm up before the race, meant fatigue set in with a vengeance in the second half of the race!
Must remember in the future how much harder the second half is, that rolling freeway is no ones friend. Fairly pleased with 0356, fairly sure access to coffee would have shaved off at least ten mins...
Well done again to all, enjoy the rest of your time here.
Cheers!

My sister and I did the 5k Thursday. Our first runDisney race and actually our first race ever.
What a fun event! Definitely thinking of coming back for another at some point.

I never knew runners were such a friendly and welcoming group. Everyone I met was great and so supportive of a couple of ladies wogging their first 5k.

Great job, runners!! I did my best to avoid being out in the cold prior to race start and only had to stand around for a bit. Once the sun came up I thought the weather was great for running. I didn't PR at this race, but I didn't expect to since I had PF all year (99% gone now). My goal was to be under 4:45 and I came in at 4:44! My knees were hurting pretty bad for the last 6 miles but I'm pushed through and got it done. Safe travels home everyone!

I ran my first Marathon today and I am just wondering if anyone else got similar results to this. I use MapMyRun App for all of my runs and it has always been extremely accurate, and today it told me that WDW Marathon was 27.08 miles? I made sure not to start it until my corral (D) actually crossed the starting line, and the picture of me finishing the race actually shows me clicking on my phone to stop :). I only took two character pictures and never went more than twenty feet off the "course" for either one, is there a chance that the new marathon course was actually the Marathon+ ?
CONGRATULATIONS to all of the runners this week and weekend whether official or part of the Rogue 1 Half Marathon!

I used mapmyrun as well and it was over 27. That's not unexpected. If you are weaving in between people, and like you said you went a bit off course that will add up.
