Marathon Weekend 2017!

I am a little bit disappointed.

Haven't met anyone from here this morning. Was looking around and after I found none of you, I wanted to check the meeting point here, but disboards were down :-(

For the race, met none of my goals. I could blame the weather for it, but normally I am used to run in the cold. Maybe I should stick lower goals next time (and lose some weight).

Wonder if @SheHulk finished sub5.
I sure didn't! I'm sorry I've been away from the boards... I had some kind of stomach flu Saturday and was so violently ill I didn't think I'd be able to run today. I did it but I ran a 5:50. Not what I was hoping for but was glad I did it at all. Sorry I didn't see you either I was looking for you in the corral based on your pic but I got there kind of late. If you got to start line that's huge! If you got to the finish line of course you should be thrilled, it's a huge accomplishment.

I ran my first Marathon today and I am just wondering if anyone else got similar results to this. I use MapMyRun App for all of my runs and it has always been extremely accurate, and today it told me that WDW Marathon was 27.08 miles? I made sure not to start it until my corral (D) actually crossed the starting line, and the picture of me finishing the race actually shows me clicking on my phone to stop :). I only took two character pictures and never went more than twenty feet off the "course" for either one, is there a chance that the new marathon course was actually the Marathon+ ?
CONGRATULATIONS to all of the runners this week and weekend whether official or part of the Rogue 1 Half Marathon!

Funny you say that, mine clocked in at 27.1, I was getting my mile marker alerts before I could even see the mile marker. It was very strange and I noticed it was off starting at mile 2 and I didn't veer off the course at all at that point.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!!!!

My Garmin 920XT showed 27.11 miles but I did exit at around mile 15.6 for my M&M McFlurry and a HOT COFFEE. Kept the 4 year streak alive. Rejoining the marathon up the ramp was especially hard this year as was the completion of the marathon since I did not train.

My Garmin was also clocking in consistently at almost a half mile off from very early in the race, as well. It ended up at 26.99 miles total. Thought it was a bit odd at the time, but last year's marathon course came in at 26.6 miles for me, so I don't think it's unusual at all to read a bit long. The course was USATF certified using the tangents so I wouldn't expect it to be off by that much and I made several detours to the restrooms and spent a lot of time weaving which added to my total.

Congratulations for finishing after that stomach flu.

I was very early in the corral, after I did not found anyone :-)

In the Corral I met someone from a FB Group who I first met in Paris at the Halfmarathon. But before every start I get very quiet and am not the best to talk to :-)

Congratulations to all the marathoners!!! You rock!:rockband:

A special congrats to those who came for a half, but stayed for a full! You've totally inspired me to take the leap and do Dopey next year.

And THANK YOU to @Princess KP for my Tervis. I've been trying to get one since Princess '16, and I love it!

Finally, thanks to all of you. I read more than I post, but I hope to change that. This is such a great community of runners! :worship:

Could the cold have scared people off from running?Just a hunch as I looked up finishers from Miami, where I used to live to see if some of my old run club buddies ran and I was surprised that there's like more people from Miami who signed up but didn't even start than there are finishers. That seems extremely strange and the only conclusion I can draw is the weather today. You compare it to last year where its a more normal amount of non starters to finishers, that's all I can think of Floridians not used to the cold temps got scared off.Without a doubt when you think that there should be even more finishers with 1,500 half runners also running the numbers should be higher.

Great job making it happen despite the stomach bug!!

I believe there were about 23,000 signed up plus 1,500 that transferred from the half to the full would but that at 24,500. That's 6800 people who didn't start or finish, that's way higher than I think it should be or at least that I thought.

Okay now I'm convinced the cold scared off Floridians not used to the cold,I just saw finishers from Orlando in 2016 and 2017 and the percentage of non starters in 2017 mirrors Miami finishers, many more non starters in 2017.I'm telling you these temperatures are not normal for Floridians.Go to a place like Lincoln rd in Miami when the weather drops below 60 and the place which is usually packed seems dead.

PS: Just looked at Tampa finishers 2016 and 2017,way bigger numbers who skipped the full 2017 versus 2016,even more so than Miami and Orlando!!!

I'll chime in as one of those who liked the temp for racing. Throw down hoodie and sweat pants, covered with a Costco contractor garbage bag was plenty warm for me. Ran in shorts and calf sleeves, which felt good.

Had a rough first half getting through crowds. Ran first half in 1:57, but negative split the second half in 1:47. I attribute that to the cold. My Garmin had me at 26.58, much worse than the 26.35 from two years ago.

A big congrats to those who moved from the half to the full. Saw lots of half bibs flowing by as I was enjoying some beer in the UK. That takes some serious determination to make that jump on no notice!

LToday's Sundays are for Disney question: With marathon weekend in the books, how YOU doing?

Doing great! I had a blast out there today with 20-25 photo stops, rides on ToT and the RnRC, and beer in MK at the halfway point. Slowest marathon I've ever done but definitely the most fun.

I saw you @FFigawi! Recognized that dimpled chin and red sparkle skirt. You were leaving ToT and headed for Rockin' Roller Coaster! It was so quick that I didn't see who was with you.

I'm glad you recognized me! Sorry we (I was with one of my good WISH friends) couldn't chat more, but we had a ride to catch. :)

I am late to all the race reports, wanted to jump on here earlier today just didn't get a chance. Promised the family we would get into AK as quick as possible after the race and then we were running (read they were running, I was hobbling) around the park all day.

Nice to run into @BuckeyeBama @rteetz and @MommaoffherRocker this morning. It was nice to get to know you all a little better and suffer in the cold together!

My race was interesting. Too much time in the parks all week. So going into the race I had very sore feet and pretty tired legs. I backed off all previous plans and picked a pace I felt was sensible. I held it pretty steady for 20 miles and then the foot pain simply became too much and I slowed down. Still it was my fastest Dopey Marathon by almost 30 minutes. I am very happy with my time and I have plenty of room to improve on my time next year. I finished in about 4:28.

Speaking of finishing. My family almost didn't make it to the finish area in time. I had already finished and had just gotten my Marathon medal when I saw them running up. I was so excited to see them! They came up to the fence and we talked for a minute. I asked them to meet me in the reunion area. Then I look up and there was @DopeyBadger sitting in the bleachers. He was great and it sounds like he killed it! Great seeing him also!

Great day, exausted now! Time for sleep. Congrats to all!

Let's do this one more time...

Good morn...er, evening, runDisney All- Stars! It's approximately 52 weeks from the 2018 marathon.

Today's Sundays are for Disney question: With marathon weekend in the books, how YOU doing?

I have sore feet, legs are good. Proud of my effort this weekend, loved the positiveness that came out of the Half Marathon all around WDW. Now I am ready to do it again next year!

ATQ: I hurt everywhere today and I took a 15 minute ice bath after the race. If anyone has any tips for getting thru today please share. :)

Morning everyone! Can't describe how awesome yesterday was. It was my first marathon and I am pretty sure it won't be my last here. Stopped for nine different character stops and stopped to take a picture in each park of me by the castle, tree of life, etc. Miles 16-21 were not as fun as the rest and that wind was crazy! The temp was fine to run in but waiting in the corrals was pretty brutal.

Choked back tears a few times on the course. One was after I got past the 20 mile marker because I hadn't run that far before and then another was when I made it into Epcot because I knew I was going to finish. The biggest was when I saw the finish line. I got to high five Mickey right before I crossed the finish line and the photo pass people got a great shot of it so you know I will be buying that one!

Congrats to everyone who ran yesterday!
