Marathon Weekend 2017!

I'll echo @Z-Knight. The cold was awful. Especially waiting for the corrals. I wandered around everywhere I could think to look and couldn't find the meet up and ended up in the corral pretty early.

Had some GI issues in the first half that cost me around 8:00, but the knee was holding up really well. As a result, I started playing with my intervals and pacing after AK in a vain attempt to make that time up, which resulted in my knee flaring up at a couple of points. Had to back off to the original plan at that point, but still finished in 5:11:02 with a 4:42 negative split! Still not sure how we managed to have a biting headwind for 3/4 of a loop course, though.

This isn't one that's going to light up the record books for me, but considering I haven't been able to get a training run longer than 8 miles in since my marathon the first weekend in November, I'll take it and be happy with the effort and my set of Dopey medals!

Congratulations to everyone else who was out there today!

First marathon in the books! Struggled with knee/shin splint issues for damn near 20 miles, but still came in at a time I was very happy with.

I tried to find the meet-up this morning, but failed to do so. Would've been nice to meet you all.

Few other thoughts/observations:
- holy snot, it was cold. And I know cold. And when that wind gusted...brrrr.
- that said, I warmed up quickly. Spent most of the race with my hat off and rolled up my sleeves when the sun came up.
- running through Magic Kingdom was something I'll remember for the rest of my life.
- running through ESPN is an experience I'd rather forget. I struggled a bit through there and that stretch feels like 10 miles.
- as big of a headache as the expo was, the race itself was very well done. The volunteers were amazing and I tried to thank as many as I could.

All in all, this was an unforgettable experience.

I had some GI issues as well and did not handle the cold all that well, but I am so happy to be done. Finished in 5:26 and, all in all, I can't complain. My hamstrings started seizing around mile 16. Have never had that happen before; I was touch and go for the last ten miles trying to make sure I didn't pull or tear something. But it's always a great feeling at the finish line:

I think if this race would have been 2 miles longer, I would have had to pull over for some quality time in the porta potty. SO happy to get back to my room.

I'm done. It took forever (a PW like I thought it would be, by about 10 minutes), but I really wasn't sure if I could do it. It was painful from about mile 5...I starting crying once I got into Epcot and realized I was actually going to finish. This one was more emotional than my first in 2012 for sure.

Congrats to everyone on great races this weekend. Loved running into some of you on the course. :)

There's no such thing as a personal worst. While it may be your slowest time ever, it in no way is a worst. You successfully completed a full marathon. Despite facing numerous challenges and unexpected obstacles along the way.

I am a little bit disappointed.

Haven't met anyone from here this morning. Was looking around and after I found none of you, I wanted to check the meeting point here, but disboards were down :-(

For the race, met none of my goals. I could blame the weather for it, but normally I am used to run in the cold. Maybe I should stick lower goals next time (and lose some weight).

Wonder if @SheHulk finished sub5.

I think I saw @rteetz in the wild getting his pic taken with Dopey. Congrats to everyone who ran today! I had the most fun I've ever had in this race. Beer at AK at 8am, loads of character stops, and especially a long detour for Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster.

I also ran into someone leaving Tower of Terror, but I have to apologize for not remembering now who it was.

Saw you heading into WWOS. By the time I noticed I would have had to turn around to say hi and we were both on the far outside right of our lanes. Unfortunately, forward momentum and limiting any extra distance was too important. Glad you were able to finish even though it was difficult.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate your kind words. :)

Aw bummer!! Definitely a good call not to turn around in that area.
Whaaaaaat? I came here to run my first half and ended up running my first FULL marathon?? Wow. I have no words. You people that do these on purpose amaze me.
Amazing. I can't believe you guys that upgraded to the marathon...I wouldn't have been able to handle that mentally or physically. Congratulations!!

I thought that was you in line. Congrats John!

Sounds like some tough weather and some tough races for a few of you. Remember that finishing 26.2 in itself is an incredible victory. Anyone who has run a few marathons has run at least one that verged on the catastrophic... at that point it becomes a test of survival and character. A different kind of victory when you finish but a victory nonetheless. Congratulations to you all!
