Marathon Weekend 2017!

Roads get VERY busy the closer to the start time.

We are staying at Vistana Resort @ 535 & I4 ..... in past years we left @ 3:30 with no traffic worries and sat in our car to relax, use the portable toilets, etc.
Very helpful info. We will do the same. thank you!!

So my heel has been feeling better, inserts seem to be working pretty well for the plantar fasciitis. Still sore, but not as bad.. My training was been in the gutter though.. Unless it just horribly flares on me, I'm good for the 5k, 10k and even 1/2. I am freaking out about full though.. To the point I am afraid in my mind I've resigned myself that I wont finish the full. Now, good for me, I get really stubborn. I HAVE to take advantage of my better corral placement and have to get off to the side or out of the way and SLOW DOWN if I'm even going to have a chance. That is going to be so, so hard for me. I've also promised family and friends that I wont do anything stupid and wind up really hurting myself.. How can someone be so down and depressed yet excited at the same time lol..

For me, its the chocolates in DHS. There has never been a better piece of chocolate (now where's the Homer Simpson drooling emoticon...)

Not me.. When I did the first Dopey, I saw those and was like "THOSE LOOK AWESOME!!!!" Took one bite and just about lost my cookies... I love chocolate, but never, ever again will I do that during a race..

I think the on course volunteers believe me to be a banana glutton. I take two or three at each stop. I balance that out by taking 0 greasy, unappealing chocolates later in the race and giving a look of pure disgust (not really, I very politely turn them down) when offered them. Am I crazy? Probably. Do the volunteers look at me like I just turned down a million dollars when I pass on the chocolates? Definitely.

Nope, right there with ya..

351 hours until the Disney World Half Marathon!

ok, that freaks me out..

So, when are our earliest runners heading for the world? We don't fly in until the 5th, but I'm already completely distracted about the trip!

3rd, EARLY

Hi everyone! I'll be running the half marathon with 7 (yes, 7!) family members. If I purchase memory maker, will I be able to download ALL of our race photos, or just my own?
I can't find this in the race program, so I cannot guarantee that this is right, but I thought I had read somewhere that you can add something like up to 4 bib numbers to your Memory Maker account. So it's possible that you could get by with 2 accounts to cover all of the bibs.

You add the photos to your account using a code for each bib (see the "post race" section in the program) and they need to account for people that run multiple races: for example, if you run the 5K, 10K and half, that's 3 separate numbers you'd add to your account. Maybe you can stop by the runDisney PhotoPass booth at the expo and get clarification? :)

I'm dealing with plantar fasciitis (but not running marathon weekend), sucks so I feel for you! What inserts did you get? I used to wear some arch supports back when but they never worked right with my Nimbus when I went to them, so I stopped wearing them, oops that created the problem I'm sure.

Buddy and I fly in Thursday night for some Dis Dads time in the park before the marathon.

Running with my training buddy Greg on our second Disney marathon (Goofy in 2015) for first half of Coast-to-Coast 2017. Just love all the energy of the Disboarders, advice, support, and so much. Shows me that "strangers" can find some common ground for some fun and healthy pursuits. Good luck to everyone in last week of prep.

I'm on hold asking the same question right now. Here's something I found on another site though:
PhotoPass+ photographers will be capturing your runDisney race photos on the track. Those photos are included as part of an active Disney PhotoPass+ One Day or Disney PhotoPass+ One Week purchase. runDisney will provide instructions on linking up to 5 race bib numbers to your PhotoPass account.

I used to love bananas. When I first started running races I would dutifully have one before and then the offered one after. I prefer them under ripe if I'm going to have one - like them green. But...I ran a lot of races last year. Banana overload. :rotfl:We are currently taking a break to figure out where we stand.

That said, I'm sure at mile 21 I won't be too picky. Lol. I will have plenty of my margarita cliff blocks and caramel gu in my sparkle skirt though. I learned from the full I did in November that I need more on the back half than the first (luckily the course I ran had great aid stations and I supplemented what I brought).

So....my boss is really sick. I can hear him hacking and sneezing away in his office right now. All over the files he is going to give me. Really??!! I do NOT need this right now. Time for some airborne and I hope it's not too late!!

This is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.

In the Virtual Event Guide, the HP Field House is listed as the location for Dopey & Goofy Packet, Race Shirt & gEAR Bag Pick-Up and Half Marathon & Marathon Packet Pick-Up and the Jostens Center is listed as the location for Half Marathon & Marathon Race Shirt & gEAR Bag Pick-Up and Champion Stadium is listed as the location for 5K & 10K Packet Pick-Up & Race Shirt & gEAR Bag.

My question is if I'm running Dopey, do I have to go to all three locations to get my shirts for all of the races? Or will they all be at the HP Field House? I would assume they'll all be in one location, but it looks like Disney is making both Marathon and Half-Marathon participants go to two locations (HP Field House for Packet, Jostens Center for Race Shirt/gEAR Bag). This is my first runDisney experience, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks in advance!

You only have to go to the Dopey pick up location.

I can go one better. My younger daughter was over for Christmas and came down with a persistent stomach virus the next day! She can't even keep liquids down right now. Got fingers and toes crossed she wasn't contagious when she was over and that I'm past the incubation period!

Not stupid at all. It sounds more complicated than it is. For Dopey you get it all in Field House. One stop for bib (and turn in waiver), and one stop for bag and shirts (which are nicely bundled together). Staff will guide you, including where to get picture.

What is your choice getting the BIB fixed Safety Pins or Numberbelt?
I use safety pins - pinned to my shirt if I'm not using a belt, or pinned to my belt if using one to hold gels. I don't like how the belt looks on me, but for the amount of food I need to finish 26.2, function takes priority and I deal with the belt.

So, how long does it typically take to get in and out of the expo? I'm trying to plan the rest of my Saturday at AK and that's the one thing I can't account for. If I go right at 10, have my waiver printed and signed and just plan to check out the official runDisney merch, is that roughly an hour? Basically, I'm wondering if I can make a 11:20-12:20 Kilimanjaro Safari FP+.
In theory, an hour should be okay... the unknown is just how many others will be trying to get in at 10. If it's a lot, you may have a long line just to get in. I kind of doubt that, though, since it's not opening day.

Apologies if this question has already been asked -
we are staying offsite, but right near the entrance to Disney (near outlets). What time should we leave the hotel to ensure we get there on time? We are doing the 10K on Friday morning. If we leave by 4am, is that enough time? With the race starting at 5:30?
I'd leave earlier, personally. Traffic does back up and you run the risk of a 10-15 minute drive turning into 40. I alwyas drive, whether staying onsite or off, and typically leave within 15 minutes of when the host resort buses start, so about 3-3:15.

Where is everyone putting their phones?
I keep mine in a pocket if not being used for music - capris and skirts with pockets.

This is great! Now just hoping that I can also pick up my youngest son's 5K bib/shirt in Champion Stadium during the early expo access that comes with my race retreat purchase. Info says we have access to Field House and Jostens, but does not mention Champion Stadium.

Hey guys, I did the marathon this weekend and I made a video so I am posting it here for anyone who might want some motivation to sign up or might need info on preparing if this is their first runDisney event.

It was my first time using my GoPro and editing so hopefully it came out alright if you decide to watch it.

And, I certainly hope to be joining you guys again next year. If I go I may be in for Goofy or Dopey.

Nice job. Just got a GoPro for Christmas and I'd like to use it for running Goofy next week. Did you use a hand held grip?

If it's like last year it's not inside the stadium but rather just outside in the concession area of the stadium.

Yep, I also do not like my DLRP Halfmarathon Photos, where I used my numberbelt, made me look bigger.
