Marathon Weekend 2017!

Dooney and Burke purses. In the past there has been a "race weekend" Dooney for most of the Disney race weekends of late. Wine and Dine did not get one, but all the others in 2016 did I believe (not sure about Avengers either).
The food and wine festival itself had its own Dooney though thats why I think they didn't do one then. Avengers did have one.

:o I had forgotten that I had posted my goals here way back in April, and of course at that point I had no idea that @DopeyBadger would compile a spreadsheet reminding me (and the rest of you!) of those goals. I'm flattered to be included in this group of dedicated, experienced runners!

My goals haven't changed - still "Finish my first 5K. Enjoy running with DH (who's only doing this because DD and I wanted him to) and enjoy experiencing the race with DD & DSiL although I know they'll be far ahead of us during the actual race!" But they have morphed some - DH and I will be mostly walking this one (didn't manage to train as much as I envisioned back in April), but I WILL finish, even if I have to leave DH behind and racewalk to stay ahead of the sweep. I don't care about photos with characters (well I do, but they're not as important as that photo of me crossing the finish line); I want to finish. In future I'll commit DH to being supportive spectator, because I want to continue running! I've lost 50+ pounds in the last 16 months and want to lose nearly that much more, and running (in addition to diet changes that I've made) is the only way that will happen.

So here are the details:
RACE - 5K
NAME - Carolyn
DIS'er name - CarolynFH
Costume/Clothing - running clothes, short-sleeved blue shirt saying "I run for caramel apples." Somewhere far in front of me will be a couple in matching shirts that say they run for Dole whips and Tonga Toast - that will be DD and DSiL! DH runs for Mickey bars - hopefully he'll be with me.
Corral - probably the very last one
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Early (I'm of German descent, being late is anathema in my family.)
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Hope to start as close to front as possible.
Expected Pace - ???

While I'm posting, two questions.
1) If we start the 5K in the last corral, how much time do we "really" have to finish the 5K without being swept? An hour? or less? I know the required pace is 16 min/mile which would mean 48 minutes from the time the last runner leaves the last corral, but don't they allow a little bit more than that for the 5K? At this point I've given up trying to train for a certain pace and just want to encourage DH to walk the distance as fast as necessary. Turns out he hates running/racing even more than I was afraid he might...but I can't leave him behind from the beginning of the race.
2) The only merchandise I want (right now - may change when I see what's available) is a runDisney visor. They'll have lots of those, right?

TIA!

1. Technically they don't sweep for the 5K. It is untimed, they do have point where they will pick you up if you are really taking your time. You should be fine though.
2. The runDisney visor likely won't sell out so you should be fine there as well.

My mom pre-ordered last year (I now realize this is probably unnecessary) and they sent out an e-mail a couple weeks beforehand because they weren't going to be ready on time and offered refunds to anyone who wanted them. The alternative was to wait a couple months for them to be available to ship. She took the refund. I'm not sure what the timetable ended up being on them, but the delay last year and lack of information so far this year would have me slightly concerned about whether they will be available during Marathon Weekend at all.

The pre-ordering was useful at Princess and Darkside - they sold out of some styles fast. Not sure if this still applies to marathon weekend. But I'd still like to know whether they are planning them at all. I was looking forward to this one especially since its my first Dopey. But I'll get over it since there are plenty of other things to buy. LOL. :rotfl:Overall, I think I'm just over excited, going stir crazy and want it to be two weeks from now, right now. lmao!

Thank you! Happy to hear x two!

I always look forward to the marathon weekend shirts...they are long-sleeve and I like packing them to throw on as an extra layer in the parks at night, and they are a nice weight for running in on those in between temperature days

I like the long sleeve shirt too, but they tend to come up a little short for me on the sleeves since I'm about 6'5".

Ugh i hope I don't regret getting a M in my shirt not a Small

There's a spot at the Expo where you can swap out sizes. You may have to come back and check again if they don't have your size.

I'm going to need to camp out and hope someone is trading in a set of Large Dopeys. Once again I got ahead of myself with my ambitions and put the M down. I don't think I will ever learn though lol

@DopeyBadger does spreadsheets, I do maps. I made this to use with my students next semester, but I thought the crowd on here might appreciate it as well:

WDW 2017 Marathon Week Participant Map

The data are from the Race Results database, which includes user-entered data. Some entries included invalid locations and were not included. Apologies to our international friends as only US locations are mapped.
