Marathon Weekend 2017!

I have no treadmill and don't like running when it's below 20. Only 3 more weeks and I'll be in FL and won't have to worry about the snow & cold.
I do have a treadmill but I'm right there with ya. We'll be in Florida before ya know it!

Looks like my Marathon Weekend may be turning into less of a race weekend and more of a survival experience. Took two weeks off from running after my goal marathon and within two weeks of starting back up the week of Thanksgiving, I've got a bit of runner's knee working here. PT taped it and told me to roll my IT band and stretch the quads. Now the knee, IT band and glutes on that side hurt! Hopefully this will pass in a few days, but race day is looming larger and larger...

Hang in there man. Hopefully you get some positive feelings in the next few weeks.

Well, you know that the hay is pretty much in the barn at this point. You've got this. :thumbsup2

Thanks, guys! I hate having to rely so heavily on fitness developed for a race at the beginning of November. I'd just really like to top off the hay supplies a little bit...

The marathon is a different animal, but I have had some of my best half-marathon races weeks after coming off training and 'A' race marathon. Top it off if you can.

Logged a quick 3 miler today and have a 10 miler tomorrow. Was watching the news and up comes a race 5 miles long. So now I'm doing a split run. Thank you news

So froze my butt of but I finished it.

Not doing that against. Not because of the distance (that was fine) but because it was so freaking cold. I don't do well in below freezing runs and this was a reminder of why I avoid them like all can be.

I have a 20 mile run next Sunday and I start tapering after that. My longest runs are 9 and 8 miles the next two Sundays leading up to the marathon. Short runs are in the 3-5 mile range.

When do you guys start tapering and how do you do it exactly?

This is the remainder of my plan:

Max duration run is 21 days from marathon (12/18/16). Last actual workout is 12/28/16 (7 days from 5k) with 14 total miles (10 at MP). In a normal circumstance, my mileage would cut to 41% of my peak week from 3 weeks out down to race week (not including the marathon).

I have a 22 mile run next weekend and that will be my longest run before I start tapering
My training plan has me running 5 days per week with Monday and Thursday off (I swim and do strength training on Mondays, but Thursdays I completely rest.)
I do shorter-mid distance runs throughout the week--anywhere from 4 to 10 miles.
After the long run next weekend, the following weekend I will do 16 miles, and the weekend after that 12 miles...then after that it is marathon weekend.

I am running 4, 7, 12 & 24 miles next week, then I taper. I have runs of 10 and 15 miles the following weekend, then it drops down to 7 and 10 miles the weekend before the races.

Taper plans - next week is my last full week: 6 miles Tuesday (tempo work) and then I go into my Dopey Simulation Thursday - Sunday: 3, 6, 12, 20. For the taper I will continue to run 4 times a week with reduced milage but adding some cross training on my bike in the basement once a week. Taper week one I will accumulate 30 miles, week two is 22 miles and then one run the week of Dopey on Tuesday (5 miles to keep legs loose). Hard to believe that four weeks from today is half-marathon day. It will practically be bedtime for me at this point! Hope final efforts are going well for everyone!

Hi! I'm super excited to have found this forum, and particularly the extremely helpful FAQs. I'll be running my first marathon on the 8th, eek!

I was wondering if anyone can share any advice about driving to the park on marathon morning, both for runners and spectators. Anyone know what time I should plan to arrive? Also, my husband will be coming with our 7-month-old to meet me at the finish line (and possibly see me at WWoS? Not sure about that yet), and I'm curious if there is a TON of spectator traffic a few hours after the marathon starts.

Thanks!! We are staying with my family in Orlando and I am dreading running in the Florida heat, ugh! I enjoyed a crisp 29ish training run today in NYC!
