Marathon Weekend 2017!

Good morning runDisney All-Stars! 86 days until marathon weekend kicks off!

In "honor" of this being week 13 of the countdown and the closure brought on my Hurricane Matthew, this week's Sundays are for Disney question is on the most overrated Disney experiences (because we can all agree that riding out a hurricane is pretty overrated). This can be anything related to the WDW experience - an attraction, restaurant, resort, FP+, the dining plan, etc. Just make sure it's something that is actually overrated. No one likes waiting in line for 90 minutes to see Anna and Elsa, for instance.

And don't worry, next week we'll list the most underrated Disney experiences.

I'll kick this off with Be Our Guest. The food and experience do not match the hype at all, at least for dinner.
BOG was even farther below expectations for lunch IMHO. And I think the bus system is way too slow, but that probably falls into your Anna and Elsa category. I think that the Boardwalk area is overrated - it needs far more attractions, shops, entertainment, kitsch, noise, and buzz, especially at night.

Welp. The Rangers were swept tonight, so it looks like I'll be heading to Florida a lot sooner than I was expecting.

Sorry for that Keels! I was hoping for a Giants/Rangers WS rematch but looks like my Giants might get swept too!

I agree with the 7DMT being overrated. DD26 still wants a fastpass for it so we always ride it but I much prefer BTMR! :)

ETA: Also, Peter Pan! I know it is a classic but it is DD26's FAVORITE so we always ride it. I'm like, eh. :confused3

It's a tie for me between making ADRs 180 days out and making FPs 60 days out. Maybe it's because my party is usually only a party of 2, or maybe it's that we don't care for the most popular restaurants, or maybe it's because we're local(ish) and don't get all worked up about "needing" to do things, but I'm perfectly happy making ADRs and FPs within days or even hours of arrival and making do with whatever happens to be available. I HATE planning trips with military precision! I'll do it for July 4th, but that's about it.

Has anyone else's training been less than ideal so far? I was doing okay following the Galloway plan, but had a series of misfortune (knee pain and then some random painful swelling in my toe that I still haven't resolved) and I haven't run in the past three weeks. I have a half marathon coming up next weekend that I'm pretty nervous about. I know I can do it, but I feel like it's going to be torture since I haven't run in so long. I'm so nervous that I'm not going to have enough time to get back on track and train anywhere near adequately for the marathon. Looking for your reassuring experiences! :guilty:
Remember: under trained >>> over trained! You don't lose all conditioning in a few weeks; it's still there. :thumbsup2

Not necessarily overrated, but does anyone actually like The Enchanted Tiki Room? Such a pointless attraction.
I have no feelings for it either way, but my son loves it. And I love him, so I enjoy the AC and sing and clap along with him. :)

As for bus system there isn't too much more you can do. Sure you can add more buses but that adds more traffic to the area which might still slow things down. I think the bus system is just about as good as it can get.

Boardwalk area has been improving, but it's not supposed to be a major Disney springs type area. It's supposed to give the people staying in that area something to do. I don't know what you could do for attractions there but they just added the new ice cream shop, and magician themed bar.

Well, we decided to cancel our cruises for November and January. Too much damage to the islands that we were going to visit from Matthew, and my wife would rather wait until they have time to rebuild than change cruises. The good news - my rD trip in January is now a full 2 weeks!

In case anyone else didn't know about it, Disney has a "Gift of Magic" room or package deal that starts January 1st. I modified our reservation for a $106 savings. :)

Got a solid first week, felt great and then our cat Stitch got sick. Thought we had a diagnosis, he was on the upswing so we could feel comfortable running inside on our treadmill again without stressing him out (too dark to run outside before work) and then our a/c broke during a heat wave. 85 in the house for 3 days before we could get it fixed and downhill he went. Flash forward 3 weeks, a weekend of syringe feeding, a biopsy and waiting a week for results, we finally have a confirmed diagnosis and he's in the right treatment. We have slowly started training again, but both of us are suffering from knee or ankle or big toe or achilles issues. Fully back in to training tomorrow (which was a date 2 weeks ago we decided we needed to be back at it or consider cancelling the marathon out of fear it would be too much too soon) and I'm hoping our ailments will pass and our little boy will continue getting better! You are not alone at all!

I'm so sorry to hear that your kitty has been sick, but I'm glad he's getting the right treatment now! It sucks for all of us, but it's a little comforting to hear that I won't be the only one whose training hasn't gone according to plan.

I had kinda the same experience going into my September races - hadn't done nearly enough training over the summer (wayyyy too hot/humid outside, and hate the dadgum treadmill in the basement) - but ended up PRing both races, albeit in perfect conditions. You'll do fine, based on your previous training commitment. And January is still 13 weeks out so you'll do fine there too...

Thanks for the pep talk!! :)

Can someone with more google skills than me post a link to the WDW map that shows the water/fuel stops. I just have some general info and don't know if it is accurate. Would like to see it on a map, if that exists.

Thanks. We are staying in a large condo at Bonnet Creek because we are coming with a bunch of friends. This will be an adults only trip, so we are going to have a lot of fun.

Sounds fun! We just got back from one of those at Bonnet Creek! I only stay on Property when it's just DD26 and me, otherwise we always stay at Binnet Creek.

Well I had surgery this morning. I have to admit I was a bit worried going in (I signed up for Dopey before we scheduled this surgery). My Feb surgery was an adventure not in a good way. Had a complication followed by pnuemonia. I finished the London Marathon in my longest marathon ever. But yet somehow I still pulled it off, and Tink two weeks later.

This one? Well I'm still nervous something will crop up but so far everything's going much better. I actually have energy this time around! I've all ready gone on two short walks up and down the hotel hallway. It hurts some but that's to be expected when the work was done on the thighs.

Ill be out of running for 4-6 weeks. But by the time the window comes up I should be up to running and doing Dopey training again unlike the last go around.

I hope you have a speedy and good recovery!

We're canceling our NYE cruise as well, after reading about massive flooding even throughout resort areas. I just don't want to pay the $$$$ to get eaten up by mosquitos.

Just want to make sure - are you talking about the California races or the Florida races? Since you are asking in a Florida race thread. :)
Sorry I didn't realize it was only a Florida thread.

Yes Half Marathon.[/QUOTE]

No need to apologize. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the only RunDisney event with a full marathon. That's why this thread is titled the way it is. The individual race weekends usually have their own thread. Since the 2016 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend just finished, it doesn't look like there's been a 2017 thread started yet. At any rate, the 2017 Disneyland Half weekend should be over Labor Day weekend next year.

Yes Half Marathon.
Gotcha. :) The Disneyland Half Marathon races normally happen over Labor Day. I'm sure someone will make a thread for the 2017 race weekend soon!

EDIT: Coffee hasn't kicked in yet, just saw your question was already answered!
