Marathon Weekend 2017!

Tale of woe here: I had a 16 mile training run planned yesterday. I keep track of my runs with the free Nike+ app on my phone. Yesterday, for the first time ever, my app froze at 13.13 miles! I started to panic, and tried to get the app going again, even though, who knows how much of my run was just lost. No luck, it was stuck there. Finally I just had to totally shut down the app and bring it back up, and then it asked me to log in again. No record that I had been running the past 2 hours. Even the 13 miles was now vanished from any record. At this point I was feeling homicidal. I did my best to estimate how long 16 miles would be, and went a little past that just to be sure, but, did I run 15.93 miles? 16.16? Who knows! I can't believe I used to run with just a stopwatch and a general idea of how far I had to go, I'm so tied to my timing app and my spreadsheets. Now it feels like, if there is no record of a run, it never even happened. I know I should splurge and get a good gps watch but the free Nike app worked so well up until now. I blame the upgrade to the iPhone 7.

I am surprised to see how late some people are getting up. I am up at 2:00 so I can be on the bus by 3. I have had it take up to an hour to get to EPCOT and while that was the result of the driver getting lost, I don't want to chance it again...I was late to the corral that race. It takes 20 min to walk to the corrals and we are "supposed" to be in the corrals by 4:30. While it isn't particularly necessary to be there that early, it is sometimes nice to get in towards the front of the corral.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that some people who are getting up later drive themselves in.
Oh that's too bad because I was hoping staying at Beach Club meant I could relax a little on race morning. Is there traffic between Beach Club and the start line if you take the bus?

Beach Club isn't that far. I was on the bus by 3:30/3:45 at the Epcot resorts. Just part of running WDW races.

Good morning runDisney All-Stars! 86 days until marathon weekend kicks off!

In "honor" of this being week 13 of the countdown and the closure brought on my Hurricane Matthew, this week's Sundays are for Disney question is on the most overrated Disney experiences (because we can all agree that riding out a hurricane is pretty overrated). This can be anything related to the WDW experience - an attraction, restaurant, resort, FP+, the dining plan, etc. Just make sure it's something that is actually overrated. No one likes waiting in line for 90 minutes to see Anna and Elsa, for instance.

And don't worry, next week we'll list the most underrated Disney experiences.

I'll kick this off with Be Our Guest. The food and experience do not match the hype at all, at least for dinner.

I know I'll be in the minority here, but for me it's Star Wars [in general]. No lightsaber attacks please! :faint:

Overrated... hmmm...

Toy Story Midway Mania, it's a fun ride and I'll still ride it but i don't think it's worth the 60+ minute wait it always has.

Dumbo! Sorry but it's just the same thing you get at many county fairs, with better decor and upkeep. Those lines when it was in the center of the park were INSANE for what it was. Moving it was a good decision IMO.

I find the dining plans to be overrated. We enjoy ourselves more by winging it and grabbing whatever we feel like eating when the need arises.

Soarin'. This is a commonly held belief throughout my entire family. We don't even take the time to ride it anymore. I know they have updated it and I'm a little curious to ride it again, but I'm not going to wait in a line or use a Fastpass to do so; so I'm not sure when that will happen. It's a perfectly fine attraction, just doesn't meet the hype.

Has anyone else's training been less than ideal so far? I was doing okay following the Galloway plan, but had a series of misfortune (knee pain and then some random painful swelling in my toe that I still haven't resolved) and I haven't run in the past three weeks. I have a half marathon coming up next weekend that I'm pretty nervous about. I know I can do it, but I feel like it's going to be torture since I haven't run in so long. I'm so nervous that I'm not going to have enough time to get back on track and train anywhere near adequately for the marathon. Looking for your reassuring experiences! :guilty:

It's been a rough one for me. I fought runner's knee problems earlier this summer and finally got that better only to get a bad case of plantar fasciitis that I'm STILL trying to get to heal up (I've also been off running 3 weeks now). I've also got a half marathon in a few weeks and am panicking a bit about getting in enough training in time for Goofy. BUT, I'm still hopeful that if I get the heel doing better soon that I can still get in enough mileage to be ready. Maybe not as well trained as I would have hoped, but enough to complete the races and still have fun. There's still a lot of training time left before the race, so be sure and get yourself healthy and be ready to hit it again when you do get there.

If been dealing with PF pain in the heel myself. I've taken the last two weeks off but I think I'm going to try a run this afternoon! I tried a variety of boots/socks but nothing worked as well as KT Tape for me. Maybe it's just hiding the problem but the pain is pretty much nonexistent with the tape on!
