Marathon Weekend 2017!

I finally heard back from runDisney about my request to defer to Dopey next year. They just sent me back the form letter that only gives 2 options: gift card or park tickets.

So, I guess that answers that! Gift card it is.
I just wish they could be used towards another race registration.

I really appreciate them doing this - but communication is sadly an issue again.

I just called them. I'd sent an email back on the 9th requesting to defer to wine and dine (as a goofy). Since the registration was coming up I didn't want to risk waiting. No response so on the 13th, I forwarded the same email to them again. Still nothing. When I called the guy just told me I am GUARANTEED a spot in the race I chose. He told me this 4 times because I kept saying well there are reports people are being denied. And registration is tomorrow so I need to know. He wouldn't look any of my info up. Told me no way I could talk to anyone about it until they call me.

So, super.

So now what do I do - register tomorrow at noon? And then what happens when they call me 2 hours later and tell me I'm registered and are all happy to tell me the good news?

I'm guessing that as a Goofy registration you either get the park tickets or the gift card like @hauntedcity said above. I'm sorry they're not being helpful on the phone. :(

Reading some peoples trip reports and it made think of this from last weekend(or any race really) - I always get anxiety when there are all those people waiting to give you your medal at the finish. Which one do I choose? The first person? Maybe someone at the back who people don't get to as often? Maybe they rotate? It's overwhelming. I'm kidding about the overwhelming but I do always feel a little awkward trying to pick a person. :)

I agree with @FFigawi When going thru the chute to get the medal I will always aim for the back group of volunteers. A couple of runs I have seen young kids handing out medals. The look on their faces when they actually get to hand one out is great.

Yeah someone was saying all the deferral spots were filled. So sounds like instead now, they are offering tickets as the goofy/dopey second option in place of deferrals. Honestly, I'm happy with either. I just wish someone would tell me what to do! I'm afraid I will register, then they call saying they registered me. And then getting the gift card turns into a whole thing. Lol. Please give me your words of wisdom RD gods!

Update - I sent another email and they responded to this one in 15 minutes! Figures. It had the two options of gift card or tickets. I responded thanking them for offering this and I'd take the gift card. But, I also noted I'd prefer the deferral and attached a screenshot of their twitter post saying we were eligible. Lol.

We thought we had only the option of the credit but had seen on the boards here that the ticket option was available. Thanks to @rteetz I sent an email requesting the theme park tickets and this was the reply:

Dear Monica,

Thank you for contacting us about the cancellation of the Walt Disney
World Half Marathon.

Out of an abundance of concern for the safety of our athletes and Cast,
we were unable to host this event, and are truly sorry for the
disappointment this caused. We have received your request for Option 2:
two complimentary 1-Day Magic Your Way Tickets with Park Hopper Option.
We are beginning to fulfill these, and you should hear a response from
us via email in the next five business days. I appreciate your patience
at this time.

Please know that the tickets do not expire and may be used during
regular operating hours. Complimentary tickets cannot be upgraded nor
can they be applied toward a package to meet eligibility requirements.

Any unclaimed event medals will also be sent to your home address. No
further action is required on your part.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

For me this is the better deal. Since there is no expiration I can use the tickets for short race weekends when I do not have an annual pass. So wonderful of them to give this generous option when clearly Run Disney didn't have to offer anything at all!

Welp. I finally leave for home after my Marathon trip tomorrow morning. I'm pretty sure this guarantees me my second-straight "Longest Marathon Weekend Stay" award. I guess I will just stop in New Orleans to celebrate!

I'll start working on my race-cation recap when I get home. Once again, another great weekend where I accomplished almost all of my "goals" for the race weekend - I think the only thing I missed was a legit shot at a 10K PR.

But it was also a weekend of great clarity ... I love RunDisney races and I love park time with my friends. And when it comes down to it - I'd rather skip the early morning wake-up in favor for fun times. So, I'm drastically changing my remaining RunDisney race schedule in favor of fun trips.

Maybe I'll get to California this year for a race to earn that awesome anniversary Coast-to-Coast medal, but maybe I won't. But either way, I know I'll get to make the most of my remaining planned WDW and Disneyland trips this year.

And that Dopey 2018 will definitely be my RunDisney "swan song".

Does this mean you'll be moving from the Beach Club to the Swan? It was nice to meet you at the Hurricane Hannahs on 10K Friday! I didn't talk a lot but that's just me. Good luck with where ever your running takes you this year.

Does anyone know if you can find pics of yourself during the marathon if your bib wasn't showing? I exited MK only to discover my bib buddy had twisted around behind me while taking off my throw away clothes! And I actually had some pics taken running out of the castle with no one in front of me.

Wondered about that, too! I did, however, get a lot of pics on my account of people I have never seen in my life so I can only imagine who has pictures of me :)

Have you tried filling out the form on the Photopass website? They were really great about finding a picture for me when I did that. I gave them them a description of me, about what time I was there and they also have a place for you to upload another picture of yourself to help them locate it. I hope they are able to find it for you!

Depending on the site, there is usually an unidentified photo section. It can be a chore to go through but sometimes they break them down by section of a race so that might make it easier.

The only thing I can think of is people have been posting photos that are not their's in rundisney Facebook groups.
