Marathon Weekend 2017!

I did the first three races of Dopey solo this year. I only had friends running with me for the Marathon.

Thanks I've done Princess solo and did part of the Disneyland Half weekend solo but taking on Dopey without support (I ran by myself last year but parents were there) feels like a whole other monster.

Not the full Dopey but I did the 10k + Goofy entirely solo this year. I found it nice to be able to focus on what I needed to do for the races without the worry of impacting someone else's vacation or races.

Side note: Anyone ever done Dopey solo? Considering that for a last option if the medical stuff keeps parents from coming.

I did my two Dopey's solo. I met up with friends here and there along the courses, but nobody for an entire race. I traveled and stayed solo, as I typically do. Worries my mom something fierce.
The second round I was laid up in bed except going to the 5, 10 and half until the morning of the marathon (probably should have graciously bowed out as my on course photos looked like I belonged on the Walking Dead {not contagious, so no threat to others}). Then got on a plane a couple days later and flew to DLR to do the Dark Side Challenge as if I was in perfect health.

If I were an outsider looking in, I would have told me not to run at all. But, I know the limits I can push myself to and where I really do need to stop. My advice is to be safe and don't do anything that you know will unreasonably aggravate your health.

One thing we'll do here in a few weeks when waivers and corrals come out is put together a comprehensive list of all of the people running marathon weekend from here. We'll have each others corral information, pace information, what we're wearing, when we typically arrive, etc. This way people can attempt to find people from the Disboards with similar goals/times. Here's an example from last year:

We do it for the 5K, 10K, Half, and Marathon. It also provides you estimates on what time of day you'll reach each milestone along the different courses.

So, not exactly the same as having a support system after the races, but we'll be here for you on race morning and during the races potentially.

So, I had a dream this morning that I was running a marathon in my hometown (pop. 1200) and when I got there, I realized I forgot my bib. I had to go back to my old house and find it. When I got back to the race, it had already started and I was afraid I was going to miss my race. Woke up at that point.

So, maybe some pre-race anxiety setting in? It must be subconscious, because I really don't feel worried about it. Either way, figured I'd share...

Also, to whoever posted about running "just" the marathon, I'll be there with you. A few years ago, I struggled through 5ks and now I'm 50+ days away from running a marathon. I'm super proud and you should be, too. The Dopey will probably never be in my financial picture, but I'm thrilled I get to run my first marathon at WDW.

Oh no, you're having the dreams already!! :faint:

I haven't had any...yet. But I know they're coming.

I had my first one last night ... and it was the worst race-related anxiety dream I've had yet.

Preview of the show at Disney springs using drones. It runs through January 8th so if you are spending a night at Disney Springs this would be worth checking out.

Wow! How many drones do they use... and were any drones injured in the making of this show?

I can't answer your question, but my parents live exactly five miles from Disney Springs and they could both hear the "hum" and see some of the lights from this show.

It was weird because I am not an anxious person. Never had the "test today in the class I never attended" or "showed up naked on the first day of school" dreams or anything like that.

I'm chalking it up as eating too many tacos for dinner last night.

That's interesting because I have watched multiple videos of it now and the music really drowns it out. I am sure its different in person though.

Nooooo

I still have anxious dreams where I go to high school and get lost trying to find my locker or something like that...so I'm fully expecting to have race dreams coming up here...

Sorry the tacos were mean to you. :(

Almost happened to me for real at Disneyland Half a couple years ago. Was on the ART waiting to go and realized I didn't have mine. Fortunately the stop was at my hotel and I just had to wait for the next bus. I would have freaked if I made of to the start area.

Question for everyone, so I have had a cold for ~2.5 weeks (I have three young kids who are walking patient zeros) I have been congested had a cough and occasionally am coughing up flem, I hadn't missed any runs until this weekend. I felt feverish yesterday and have not run yet this week. I am going to the doctor on friday. Not looking for a diagnoses here but wondering if anyone had has similar symptoms and how it impacted your training. Should I take it easy, push through it or an in-between?
Speaking as someone who's had bronchitis multiple times and secondary pneumonia twice, I would strongly advise taking it easy. Head colds aren't a worry, but chest congestion and running are generally a bad idea. Fever + chest congestion + running is a REALLY bad idea. I hope you feel better soon, but for now, let your body rest and recover!

I'll be doing some socializing, but I train solo and prefer to be solo for tough runs, which I expect at least the full to be. I'll hang with a gaggle of friends for the 5K, but think I'll probably do the 10K mostly solo because I have a goal of getting some good video from it if weather permits, may hang with a friend in the half (but said friend knows me well and knows that I need lots of "me" time during the race), and will definitely be doing the full solo. But if you don't want to be solo, don't fear - it's super easy to find people to hang with , here or even in your corral at the start!

Actual conversation in the bathroom yesterday between a coworker and I as I was getting changed to go running:
Her: You sure run a lot. Why, are you running a race?
Me: Yes, I'm training for a marathon.
Her: Oh, I've run a marathon before. It was about 3 miles. How far is yours?
Me: 26.2. That's how far a marathon is. :upsidedow
Her: Ohhhh. Do you think you will win?
Me: :rotfl2:
