Marathon Weekend 2017!

Ok folks, what are all your guesses about the new POT requirements? I am debating on whether I should submit a time or not for the half. My POT puts me at about 3:10, but that was over a year ago and with my current training, I am confident I can get under 3:00. POT is not "required" for me, but in the past, anyone who did not submit a time was put into the last corral. Should I put my goal time as 3:00 and not submit a time (and risk the last corral), or should I put 3:10 and submit a time and hope it bumps me up from the last corral?
No guess needed - Track Shack (which handles corrals for rD) has said that they will not look at PoT for estimated finishes above the cutoff. For estimated finishes entered between 2:46:00 and 3:30:00, they'll seed people based on the finish time entered in registration.

So I would enter the time you expect to finish in. You can enter a PoT, too, but Track Shack says they won't bother looking at it. I can't imagine entering it would hurt, in that case, but it probably won't help, either.

It will be our first Disney Marathon weekend (7th disney trip). I'm doing the half and DH is doing Goofy. I have two questions!

1. We are flying in on thursday and plan to visit the expo that afternoon/ evening. Will a lot of booths be sold out of things?
2. We want to do one of the Magic Kingdom tours (probably Marceline to Mainstreet), should we do it on Friday morning or on Monday morning after the races?

Thanks!
1. Maybe - depend on the things in question and how well Disney stocks. Generally speaking, I never seem to see a huge rush on items at Marathon weekend the way we do at Princess or Star Wars. Chances are good you'll find something! If they are out of something you really, really want, it's worth trying again the next day, as they do sometimes restock.
2. Personally, I'd save a tour for after the races. Just less tress if you aren't feeling up to it on Friday, y'know?

QUESTION

For anyone that signed up for the 5K or Dopey - when you pick your 5K shirt size, what are the options?

I transferred to Dopey recently and there was only one shirt size section for me to pick from...in the past there has been 2 (one for the tech shirts and one for the unisex 5K shirt).

Eh? :confused3 Now that they have gone to metal medals, my biggest wish for runDisney is to get women's cut 5K shirts, so I'm hopeful...or wondering if it's an error since runDisney's website still says there's a unisex shirt for the 5K.
I hadn't noticed at the time, but yeah - only one option! They did do women's cut 5K shirts for Paris, so maybe??? that would be awesome!

I'd love a women's cut 5K shirt! Also wish they were tech shirts. Our youngest is a very tiny cross country runner. We just registered for a local winter run series and I was excited about him getting more of their awesome kids tech shirts. He collected a few from their 5Ks last year, and this year he would get the entire series. But now it looks like they switched to the cotton shirts that everyone else gives kids. Boo.

Also, we ran PHM weekend this year instead of marathon weekend. I LOVE the 2016 marathon weekend shirts I've seen in photos and I'm really hoping for a similar design in 2017, but not counting on it. I don't love the huge design on my 2015 shirt - please stick with designs that don't cover the whole shirt! :(

Always so disappointed with the cotton 5K shirt that I never wear. I realize they are cheaper, but I think with the amount people are paying for that race an upgrade would be reasonable. Shouldn't be very difficult (or much more expensive) to have Champion add a Pluto 5K shirt to the other 5 they are already doing for Marathon Weekend.:confused3

I never minded the cotton 5K shirt. I don't wear it to run but I'll wear it at other times.

I like that ad a lot too.

Probably not but as others have said it depends on the quantities of things they order and how popular they are.
How many marathons has your husband done before. Goofy can take a lot out of a person. If he's newer to marathoning you might want to do it Friday.

Me too. Expedition everest challenge was a 5k with tech shirts. Granted it was expensive but it would be nice for others to move in that direction.

POT is only needed if you are planning on running the half faster than 2:45 for the half. If your estimated time is slower than that you will be placed in the corral based on your estimated time. There is no need for a POT, and it is unlikely that the POT will even be looked at. If you plan on being faster than 2:45 and don't submit a POT you will be placed in the last corral.

I dont remember what I put as my est for the 2014 dopey, it may have been slower than 2:45 half or whatever in the full, I submitted a POT and was either 2 or 3 away from last corral. So even if I'm slow, I submit one.. So it may not have helped or hurt, but it wasnt a big deal to submit.

Calling experienced Dopey runners! I've run many half marathons and one full. My only Disney challenge has been Glass Slipper, but I ran that with my kids so I went at their pace (which is far slower than mine - for now) and required no fueling or activity strategy or additional downtime. I'm a first-time Dopey hopeful and really interested in hearing about your experiences/plans for the day of the half (fuel, activity) before running the full.

I'm going to replicate what we did this year - we're going to finish, change (we have Race Retreat) and then walk through Epcot to brunch at Captain's Grille (we're staying at Beach Club). The plan is lounging all day at Stormalong Bay before dinner (either Il Mulino or Hollywood Brown Derby - can't remember which) and then back the hotel for an 8:30ish bedtime.

I haven't done dopey yet but my plans so far involve a dinner ADR at Whispering Canyon. My guess is we will be in a park for the majority of the day, I will head back after dinner though to go to bed.

I've never run a 5k that has had tech shirts. I think they want to keep down the price. Not sure a Disney one would be worth the price hike. Now, if they were going to charge the same amount and make a women's cut, that would be awesome.

Nothing special for fueling, except I likely won't eat anything that day I've never eaten before...not a good time to figure out that something doesn't agree with me. Will drink tons of water though and skip the booze.

I know I'll need a bit of sleep after the half, so between that, eating lunch and getting cleaned up I don't seem myself getting to a park until maybe noon. I'll probably just stay off my feet as much as possible...take in shows and whatnot, maybe hang out at the resort. I'm hoping to do better with getting more sleep this time so I'm aiming for bed around 8.

I bet someone can get you in to Stormalong Bay if you want to hang out ...

When do you all think it will be clear to walk from the boardwalk to HS after the full marathon Sunday?
We are staying at BWI and currently have a 2:30 reservation for the Brown Derby. Will the course still be open in those areas around 1:30-2:00?

We've always gone over to Disney Springs and walked around for a while, caught a movie, walked around some more, done an early dinner (with an ADR) around 4:30 and headed back to our hotel to sleep. Gives a pretty good mix of relaxation and activity. As for fueling, I'm not a particularly good person to ask. I know what I should be eating, but I always seem to give in and eat something too rich or that's just plain too much. I am in WDW and it is a vacation after all. We are staying off-site this year so I think I may be able to plan a more sensible meal.

I'm going to do pretty much what I did last time. Finish the half, grab a beer at the truck in the parking lot, head back to the room to shower, and have a big breakfast at 'Ohana. The afternoon will be walking around Epcot or DHS a bit, riding a few rides, and spending the rest of the time with my feet up relaxing. Dinner will be either sushi at Kimonos or pizza in the room. The key is to keep hydrating as much as possible, keep your feet up some after walking to relieve soreness after the morning's race, and don't eat too much of anything you haven't practiced before during your training runs. Generally, the most important meal for the marathon is a relatively high carb breakfast with sufficient protein for muscle recovery after the half. If you fuel up well then, you have a good chance of a great run on Sunday.

Assuming the last corral goes off around 6:30 AM and a 7 hour limit, that would put the last runners at mile 24 [behind the BWVs] around 1:00 PM.
I think you should be okay with 1:30 - 2:00, but there's always the boat if the course is active.

Boats don't run during the race. The DHS boat launch is bloacked by the course.
