Marathon Weekend 2016

Very grateful that I didn't try to put something together at the last minute and decided to get my money's worth out of my Minnie skirt/visor.

P.S. This will be me on Sunday (although I will also be wearing a yellow Road ID too.) If you see, me say hi! If I stare at you blankly, it's just nerves. :)

First time marathoner this weekend. Any insight on what to expect on race day and during the race? Thanks!

Depending on your corral, you may spend a lot of time just waiting to cross the starting line. If we are allowed to bring anything to the corrals with the new rules that are in place, consider bringing something to sit on since the roads are probably going to be wet. Just make sure you don't leave it on the ground for somebody to slip on.

Once you do start, don't let the adrenaline take over. (I was in corral N two years ago and, after watching all the corrals before me start, I was pretty pumped up by the time it was finally my turn. I paid the price later down the road.)

Unless the balloon ladies are in sight, stop for at least one character photo. (<----- Biggest regret from two years ago.)

Make good use of the bathrooms that are in the parks...much more pleasant than the porta-potties.

Finally - have fun!

Don't we all. That or the lotto...

I'm trying to get @mbwhitti to come run Princess with me - with the PowerBall jackpot as high as it is, I told her our first stop between the airport and the Expo is to buy lotto tickets. :crazy2:

I've been telling people that I've always wanted to be a PowerBall winner when I grow up ... now seems like a great time to make that happen!

With all of the new restrictions on costumes, poles, walking sticks and such....will they stop the guy that has been carrying the American Flag these past years???

You'll see more buses than you've ever seen in once place.

When the corrals in front of you start and the announcers get going and the fireworks go off, you'll feel the energy and think 'Wow, I'm really going to do this.'

Don't get caught up in the excitement and go out too fast.

You might get emotional when you turn down main street if you have Magic Kingdom memories.

You will find a toughness you didn't know you had.

Run the race one mile at a time. If you forget how far you've gone and how far you have to go, you'll be surprised at how fast (maybe soon is a better word) the mile markers will come and go.

And you'll come to love seeing the next mile marker like its a long-lost friend.

You'll smell smells you didn't know Disney World had.

You'll get tired of the twists and turns in ESPN WWoS.

There may be unplanned trouble along the way. Don't despair, take action. At that point, it's too late to add training miles or changes shoes or undo the chili cheese dog you had for lunch. You just have to think 'this is the situation I'm in, what can I do right now to improve it.'

When you hear the Hallelujah choir, you're either almost to the finish line or almost to the Pearly Gates, but either way, you're almost done.

You'll feel like an Olympian when they hang the medal around your neck.

Immediately after the race, you'll swear that you'll never do it again.

By the next morning, you'll be looking at http://www.marathonguide.com/races/races.cfm to find your next race.

Have a great race!

The 60 ish degree weather is going to feel incredible compared to the 16 degree weather I ran in this morning. Leaving tomorrow, can't wait! Best of luck to everyone!!

I've been here since yesterday and this weather in the 60s has me FREEZING. lol. Double layer shirts, pea coat and gloves. Haha. Spoiled Ca Girl.

Well, one day before the Expo opens, RunDisney finally announces changes to rules for costumes:

I swear, they have nobody on staff truly tasked with social media, communications media or anything of the sort.

Agree, as a communications professional, their lack of it is appalling. I remember during the DLH this year, I felt like the social media rep got fired or something. One minute there were tweets every couple of hours, then nothing for two days. So odd.

QOTD:
I like to run at night, but mostly because I am not a morning person. On the weekends I do mornings, but 9 am is early for me. Lol. I need coffee first.

Every time I check the weather app on my phone, it reads different for the weekend. So who knows what we will encounter! By the way, here's what I think I'll be wearing for the half ... The skirt definitely!

As long as I win too. It's enough of a jackpot I wouldn't mind sharing. ;)

Headed to Disney tomorrow. Have run several marathons, half marathons, 10 milers etc but never Disney (back of the pack runner---I am not fast but I finish). Am doing the Dopey Challenge as part of the "Run for our Sons" team (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) and am excited :)

Anyone else coming solo? Just me on this trip (family couldn't come) so if anyone else wants to get together for dinner, hang out etc....hit me up.

So read somewhere that the metal dectectors will be present at bag check/screening so I'd make sure to not wear/carry too much metal (wonder how that's gonna work with the mandatory safety pins on race bibs...) me thinks I'll aim for earlier cause entrance to the compound may be nut so...
