Marathon Weekend 2016

As I said in another post, I'm not sure how they can even enforce the layered thing when so many runners show up in various layers to run. A hoodie could conceal prohibited items. Heck, a creative person could conceal prohibited items in their compression sleeves! Or other areas I'd prefer to not envision. o_O

I am very much hoping that they lean toward being inclusive rather than exclusive in close cases.

Last year people were showing up in garbage bags, heat blankets, and every form of throw away clothes imaginable to try to stay warm. With the new regulations basically all of those things could be construed as layers, a form of concealment, or some other violation. There are so many practical/inoffensive things that could be ruled out if they choose to be strict.

ATTQOTD: Mid-morning runs for me. I need my coffee, newspaper and breakfast fix to start the day. More energy in the AM!

Final taper week question:

As I will not have the will power to refrain from walking/standing/leaping/cartwheeling in the parks all day (Thurs-Sat) leading up to the marathon, any advice about about compensating by omitting runs this taper week?
I have 3, 4, and 2 mile runs left.
So at a high level I think a long day walking around the park can kind of compensate for a short easy run day. Since you are tapering I think it's fine to omit them. That some tapers call for decreasing the volume of training, but not the intensity. If you are trying to do that type of taper, I don't think a day in the parks is equavalent to a shorter tempo run. You'd probably need to do at least a couple miles of tempo pace running.

I would probably do the 3 and 4 miler. Just skip the 2 miler. The Saturday before the marathon, I would try to limit the amount of time on your feet. I am not saying don't go to the parks, but I wouldn't suggest going from rope drop to closing the parks down.

Question for Disney vets (non running related.) I've been stalking the disneyworld app to check on wait times. And it appears way busier than the last week we went in October 2014. For instance Ariel ride is 60 min right now.
Do you think that is inflated? Or just the fact that it is 1:45pm over there?

I saw the insane waits for last week but chalked that up to New Years. I was hoping that today would have started the "slowing down" period.

Glad I have some FP booked!

There are still a large number of international visitors in town, like more than I can remember from years past - so I'm sure that's what is affecting wait times.

Thanks @Keels
I think our strategy of early morning touring, back to the hotel after lunch and then touring again in the evening/dinnertime may be wise. The day before running being the exception as that is a travel and easy-going day.
Epcot doesn't seem too bad on the app at least...and we plan to spend some time there.

PrincessV knows what our 11 months of summer feel like. Sometimes I like to jump in the pool to cool off but between June and September my pool water is in the mid 90's. The warmest it got was 96.
Yep, exactly lol! I've done the mid-run dip in the pool and it helped a LOT, despite being 90+ degrees in there. Felt good compared to the 100+ I was running!

Frankly, this needed to be sent out via email and not just hidden as a blog post that most people won't see. I expect to see people turned away come the 5k on Thursday morning because rD really falls short at communication.
^THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! As a marketing & communications professional, this is making me batty!!

Yep, MTE. And 60 is darned chilly for us Floridians to be waiting around: I have mylar sheets, ponchos and a fleece blanket packed for throwaways and have no idea if that will be a problem. WAY too ambiguous and leaves the poor volunteers on the hook to make judgment calls. That's not going to be pretty...

First thing in the morning (which is more like 7:30 for me), because then I still have a whole day ahead of me. Running any later feels like it kills my day.

Less than 8 hours until I hit Florida! Both job interviews are done and went okay (thanks for all the well wishes ... and yes, Disney/running came up at both interviews), my knees are feeling much better, I've got a cup of my favorite affordable coffee in hand, and all that's left is last-minute packing!
I hope to meet many of you over the coming days as we all rock these races!

Hope both your races are great!

I'm here right now in MK creeping up the FP line for SM. Trust me those times are not inflated.

I am not looking forward to us being the testing ground for the brand new rules.

saw this today and it really is unfortunate they waited so long to give this info, luckily it doesn't affect anyone in my party as we are more on the Disney bounding side of things than actual costumes, the funny thing to me is that tu tus are ok (plenty of things could be concealed in there) but jedi robes are not:scratchin . and while the wrap around elaborate costumes are very cool (up house, etc.) they do pose a very real hazard to other runners hopefully they are a little lenient this weekend since the info came so late and its the first race with these restrictions

as for the QOTD
I'm usually at the mercy of my work schedule as to when I get my runs in (such is retail life) but if I had to choose I think afternoons are my favorite time I'm not a morning person it takes a lot to get me out of bed if I don't have a race but late afternoon runs after work are wonderful for me

Yup. Just told my Mom and husband (who are running the 5k with me) that under no circumstances will they be bringing a bag or wearing a sport belt on Thursday at the 5k. I can already envision it being a total cluster.

For people who are getting text alerts as we pass timing mats along the course, is it start, 10k, 13.1 mi, 20 mi, and finish only?

Nothing scientific about my response and I have never been great at following a plan, but I would think at this point whether you do your runs or not would have very little impact on your performance in the Marathon on Sunday. I think doing whatever you feel comfortable with and will have you in the best frame of mind for Sunday is your best course of action.

Thanks, All. This is my first full and on reflection I would probably be second guessing myself at the start line if I went off book too much regardless of actual impact on performance. So looks like two runs in Central Park and a brisk walk Thursday around Beach Club!

First time marathoner this weekend. Any insight on what to expect on race day and during the race? Thanks!

I would like to think that a true Jedi would find a way to mind-trick security into allowing the robe.
