Marathon Weekend 2016

QOTD: Based on the current forecast posted earlier today. Will the weather require you to make any adjustments to your current running plans and goals?
Nope, not a one! But I live down here: I'm always prepared for any weather lol! Though I will say that W&D taught me to prepare better for the possibility of a delay and what that does to my fuel strategy... my blood sugar had dropped a lot by the time we got the go ahead to run and I had to use a gel before we started. Which meant I was short a gel that I'd need in the race. Luckily they also shortened the course so it became a non-issue, but now I know: always bring extra fuel, just in case.

Local TV weather had a 70-percent chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the morning on Sunday, and then a cool down the rest of the day and into Monday (high in the mid 60s on Monday).

So, the adjustment to my current plans will be to start doing a rain dance for the rain to roll through on Saturday evening/overnight and hopefully that milder Monday weather can move into Sunday!

Other than that, I've started assembling all my rain gear and making a list of things I'll need for Sunday. :(

So ... my new problem is how I'm going to get through the next 24 hours.
My flight leaves in about 28 hours, so obviously I'm already on crazy all-Disney all the time mode.
But ... I have two job interviews within the next 24 hours. I don't know how I'm going to focus on that. It's going to be an interesting 24 hours.
(The good news is, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to schedule one of them before the trip, so at least now I'm feeling a little better about that).

You'll be fine relax take a deep breath and ace the interviews. Then all you have to worry about is fun!

Maybe it's a good thing? You're already so focused on Disney, you won't have time to be over-stressed or nervous about your job interviews and you'll ace them! Just crush those interviews and then you can say "I'm going to Disney World!".

Thanks, guys!!

At least now I have an answer for one of my least favorite questions - "What's your greatest weakness?" "I can't think about anything other than Disney World..."

Well it's Monday of race week and we only have a few easy runs left, so all we have left to worry about is the weather and travel. Hope everyone has a safe trip!

Try to slow down at the start. It's always been an achilles heel of mine.....going out too fast. The warmer temps will make the wait in the corral more comfortable, so I'm happy about that!

Just take it like a race - take a deep breath and focus on one step at a time. You'll do great! Good luck!

PS - I've also been going through interviews, and I've found that talking about running and the fast-approaching marathon is a great way to show off your personality in an interview.

Thanks! And thanks for the tip - it's always great to get tips from other people going through the process!

No change what so ever.

I know i am in the very small minority when I say I am glad it is going to be on the warmer side. It will still be cooler then I train in. I am looking forward to a nice run. This past January running in the low 40's was no fun at all for me. I know they say the cooler the better but that was nuts. And for the year of Disney on Ice I was a spectator.

QOTD: I'll be packing my Gore-Tex Asics (they keep me feet super dry), but I really hope to not need them! Please let the accuweather forecast hold! I LOVE cloudy. I can handle any heat & humidity as long as it is cloudy. I don't mind a little rain but an all morning rain would suck. The thunderstorms have me nervous because if this race gets delayed or cancelled I will be a complete mess! :worried:

Sounds pleasant to me. I live in NC and train through the summer which has me doing 4 milers at lunch in 90+ degree high humidity weather. I've also run halfs in NC in June and September, so this weather is not a deterrent or concern for me.

My pace will drop about 30 secs per mile for every 10 degrees over 60, I see a 11-12min marathon pace if the temps hold true. I'm a salty sweat person so I have to stay on top of my electrolytes or cramp up with no quick recovery.

I no longer care what the weather is for race weekend ... as long as it's warmer than New York. I just got back from my last pre-race run, and I'm cold. I think this was my first sub-freezing run of this training cycle.
(Of course, I'm sure this opinion will change when I see the weather forecast)

This morning here in Michigan it was 10 degrees with the wind chill, my last run is tomorrow morning. Hoping for no frost bite before Florida! I may regret this on Sunday, but heat sounds wonderful!!

These have been a blast, thank you LSUlakes!

So, coming from a very cold climate I am both excited and anxious for the warm weather. I know I will need to compensate for the change. I will be even more cognizant of drinking lots of water, already started this. I will not be carrying a hydration system so I will make sure to drink at every aide station as I often get time focused and blow through the stations. Lastly I am going to stay relaxed about goal times (who am I kidding...) Flying south Wednesday morning!

So, the adjustment to my current plans will be to start doing a rain dance for the rain to roll through on Saturday evening/overnight and hopefully that milder Monday weather can move into Sunday!

I'll join you in that dance! I'm hoping for the same thing.

I have no adjustments really since my only goal is to finish. I just really don't want to be running in the rain.

I was looking at the course map for water stops. It looks like they are every mile to two miles except for the stretch between MK and AK. It looks like there is a 5 mile stretch without any sort of water stop. There is a medical station, but do those have water too? Am I just missing it on the map or are they really going that long without one?

I'm not too worried about it being warm/muggy, as I'll start drinking extra water starting today. I'm more concerned about the possibility of thunderstorms postponing or cancelling the race :scared:

I noticed that, also, and think it HAS to be a mistake. Right???
