Marathon Weekend 2016

Thanks @LSUlakes! Yes it will be my first Boston...I will need to check out those RW forums and see what those folks have to say. We have some decent rolling hills around here and lots of elevation changes when running the trails, so hopefully that will get me comfortable. You may have read our blog, 3CheapRunners...although it has gone from a daily-poster to basically my race recaps this past year :o

Then that was the blog I read at some point. I have read a ton of race recaps and reviews of Disney on the last several months. Boston is like the super bowl of marathons, the crowd support is amazing. The scream tunnel near the halfway point is wild, plus free kisses if you choose. If you have any questions about Boston, send my a PM. Did you book your room yet?

Question regarding spectator for marathon - how easy is it to get around to multiple locations to offer encouragement to your runner?
I hope you get responses because I have the same question. I guess the slower your runner is the better chance you have of multiple sightings. I think our first strategy will be to not even try to see her at the start and just head out to our first viewing spot. If you have passes the easiest places to get to would be the parks using Disney transportation. I wouldn't consider driving.

Do you feel prepared for the race you are signed up for and are you looking forward to making the trip to Disney? One last set of question. Where are you coming from? Are you driving or flying? How long will your trip take you?
I refuse to answer the first part out of fear of invoking Murphy's Law. ;) But yes, I'm VERY much looking forward to getting away!
Coming from 90 miles west of WDW, Tampa Bay area.
Driving.
In theory? <2 hours. But it's I-4. Could be 5 hours, could be two days. Anyone's guess, lol!

Question regarding photo ops - are the PhotoPass photographers out there at numerous locations?
No PhotoPass at all. Race photos are done through MarathonFoto and will be sold by them exclusively.

Question regarding spectator for marathon - how easy is it to get around to multiple locations to offer encouragement to your runner?
Not that easy - others have reported that it feels a bit like a marathon lol! Remember that roads are closed, so spectators are limited by that. I know others on here have more detailed info...

I feel prepared for the marathon only because I am doing a 3:1 run/walk/run with my wife. My base is decent having put in 30-60 miles per week (plus another few hours of swimming & biking) for well over a year now, but my long runs just haven't been there. Did a 15-mile trail run on the weekend which was my longest run since October but it isn't concerning me too much. Training for Boston starts as soon as I cross the line at Disney (okay, maybe a week after), so there just wasn't room for Novemeber/December long runs without burning myself out before 2016 even started.
We will be driving just over 2 hours from London (Canada, not England!) to Detroit and then catching a 2 and a half hour flight to Orlando, then flying back on the last flight out on Tuesday night...lots of time to enjoy Disney for a few days after the race :)

With a base of 30-60 mpw, you'll be fine, even if you haven't gotten in that many long runs. I did my first ultra (50K) a few years back on a similar base, but with no long runs past 14 miles. I was fine. You're building your endurance over the course of the week, just not in a single run. Also, congratulations on qualifying for Boston! Enjoy the experience. I was supposed to run my first Boston this year, but my job sent me on a trip instead. I'm qualified for 2017, so I'll get there eventually.

Don't look. It's getting warmer by the day... :crazy2:

I've looked, I just didn't post the changes today because... well... I'm lazy. I only really looked at marathon day today and noticed that accuweather is trending cooler and the weather channel is going up. They did not start at the same spot either, so the cool temps are nearing cold, and the warm temps are getting to hot. Its still so far out that anything can happen and since so many sources are reporting different things they really don't have a good handle on things this far out. As unreliable as the 10 day forecast are, it will provide us with a lot more data and sources. The local weather folks from the area will also have reports out by then as well.

Any good news websites I should look into for the Orlando/Disney area? I prefer the local reports than a national website.

I've got a question about ChEar Squad. Do we need to print a waiver off or ID to pick the stuff up or not. Not seeing much info about it. My mam loved it for an Xmas present, she's pretty excited over the fact she gets a shirt as well!

Boards been a little slow lately... How is everyone doing? Only a few more days to the big weekend! Do you feel prepared for the race you are signed up for and are you looking forward to making the trip to Disney? One last set of question. Where are you coming from? Are you driving or flying? How long will your trip take you?

Doing ok. Christmas guests have left the house and now cleaning up.
Yes and no. It almost feels like it is already over now that I am in taper mode.
Flying from Kentucky. With a layover, it will take around 5 hours.

1. I think I may have overindulged over Christmas (I have a sweet tooth), but otherwise I'm doing well. My husband and 3 kids have all gotten a bad cold and nasty cough recently and my hands are so raw from washing them like a mad women. I will not get sick!
2. Overall I feel prepared for my first marathon. I never missed a long run and somehow I managed to get three 20 milers in, but my weekday mileage was kinda crappy, only ran twice during the week and sometimes not as long as my plan called for. I am getting really excited though!
3. We are flying to MCO from Grand Rapids, MI which takes about 3 hours. :flower1:

Yay, it's almost time!

I feel prepared, but I did not speed up as much as I wanted to this year. Had to accept the fact that a cold took me down two weeks ago and I may not finish as quickly as I thought I could back in October. This is my second marathon, but first at Disney! So excited to run past Spaceship Earth at the end! Honestly I CANNOT WAIT! I love that sphere.

I'm coming from SC, quick 1 hour flight.
It's a trip with my mom and sister, and we aren't doing parks, just some experience dining during the weekend. We are also volunteering at the half marathon on Saturday morning: first RunDisney volunteer experience.

Thanks for the fun this year on the board! I'm trying to decide about the meet up... never been to one before, but I feel like I know some of you people! :)

My costume components for my Minnie outfit should be ready by Thursday this week. Would it be weird if I posted a picture of my dress rehearsal so people could kind of see what I will look like on race day? Or along the marathon course by the Contemporary when I'm cheering?

@roxymama Not weird at all, lots of people post them especially on the Team RunDisney FB site.

Look at this thread I answered yesterday. Same info For the first 8 miles and the last 2 miles. I didn't take the chance on getting stuck in traffic trying to get to AK, ESPN, and then HS.

Now I run along with everyone else. Yes the bug got me. ::yes:: When I did the marathon last year I didn't take pics with phone.

Yay! Thank you for volunteering!
We though about volunteering for the marathon, but decided against it because it would take up so much of the day and this is our only WDW trip of the year and we didn't want to lose the park time. One day I hope to be able to go down and volunteer at a race or expo. The race volunteers really are amazing people!

Physically I'm in top gear, mentally...well I'm still a bit shaken by the near head on we had with an idiot trying to pass on the curve this morning. But I'll be good by race day(s).

I feel pretty much prepared. I keep stalking ADRs hoping a slightly later California Grill one will open up on Friday since the 5:20 is a tad bit early for Wishes viewing (even if it is at 8). And continue to be frustrated by the lack of FP for the Star Wars fireworks (yeah no I am not paying 70 bucks for food I will barely be able to touch and can't take home no thank you, and I don't drink)

Well I'm from CO but I've been in England for the holidays. So that's where we're flying from. It's a 5 hr flight, plus a 2-3 hr drive to London.

Well I ran like a frozen snail this morning so I guess doing as good as I can with injury and freezing temps/snow. Not nearly as prepared as I planned but it is what it is :0 Looking forward to Disney, who wouldn't even if I'm in pain from the races! My older brother just made us a Garden Grill lunch ADR for after the marathon so that should be nice and I'm very much excited for the Star Wars fireworks and Launchbay!

Coming from Nebraska, flying, 1/2 day - which I keep checking our weather and I think should be good to get out next week. After 2 snowstorms recently that is what worries me the most.

Physically I am under trained but mentally I have run it so many times that I feel good to go. Looking forward to meeting as many of you has possible.

@roxymama now we know where to look for you.

I have decided that I will skip running most of the Disney events after Star Wars in 2016 until Dopey 2018, however will probably volunteer at all of them. I live 2 1/2 hours south of the world. I am up there quite often so volunteering will be fun.

I will be driving up early Friday morning. Also looking forward to the wish POP Century meet at 4pm.
