Marathon Trqaining Thread for 9/12-9/19

Thank you for sharing your experiences too. Will Joshua be coming in January? Maybe we'll have a chance for all of the kids to meet.

Well the spaghetti feed is over and the girls are off to a football game. I took today as my rest day . Too many irons in the fire right now. My grandson is here for the night. He and grandpa are playing video games. It is so funny to hear there conversation. Tomorrow we have 2 soccer games and yard work. It is suppose to be 85 degrees tomorrow. Summer is here a few months late. My husband got two tickets to see a Vikings football game. We gave then to our son.
We aren't able to go. Bad timing. I look at my beautiful bracelet and know I can keep going. I am going for an early morning run tomorrow before the heat gets here. My thoughts are with the storm victims. God bless!

 Hello, Everyone!

It has been a long week here at school. The kids are great, and a change from the last two years. Challenges, to be sure, but different than those that I've been dealing with (I looped my 1's to 2 and am back to 1 again.) School, plus home busy-ness means I get to skim, and that's about it.

I've not been the best this week, either, TwInsmom. I've done Curves once, walked a couple of times, and some knee exercises in between. Eating....uh, best left unsaid :o

But I anticipate a satisfactory weekend. I know that I'll get 10k done on Sunday, and will do a warm-up "stroll" tomorrow, in between planning for next week.

Thanks for quoting me TigerLily. I needed to be reminded. We can do this. We WILL do this. We will:

Just put one foot in front of the other. . . and soon you'll be walking out the door. Slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

Got the slow down, got the steady down, now I just need to GET DOWN to it!

I don't know if he will be coming. I may have to go solo. I also have a teen age daughter (turning 15 next month). She has some serious issues with rebellion and depression and I find it hard to plan one day to the next around her, let alone months in advance. It would be nice if she would come too and could watch Joshua while I was doing the Half, but that looks doubtful right now. I haven't even made my ressies yet. If I can swing the cost I might ask my Mom to come with me and she could watch Joshua, otherwise I will probably leave him with her. I think I am just going for 2 nights, maybe three max.

But, if he does come I'd love to have the kids all meet :)

BTW, my DD didn't get any early intervention and was found to have a learning disability when she was in 8th grade. I think much of her problems stem from not being screened early and getting the intervention she needed. Again I say I am a proponent for early intervention!

Good afternoon everytone! I';ve had a pretty busy week this week, but our company has now left tings should be getting back to normal finally! Does anyone else here have a hard time styang focused when you mess with your regular schedule? I have an awful time with it. Walking-wise I did pretty well, only missed yesterday (which I can make up for today) but food wise I was way off! I did however manage to lose a couple more lbs. though, and I've earned my 35 lb clippie as of this morning! I'm excited. In all, that makes 50 lbs. from my highest weight ever! I'm starting to see the other side of the fence now! Yippee!

It seems as though everyone's lives have become a little busier though with the school year starting up again. maybe some of you can post some hints for staying on track with everything.

I have emailed Kamy asking her if we have an assigned Grand gathering group number. Monday I will call and ask very specific questions about the Wishes Fireworks Cruise. And post the info that day. If we don't do that on Saturday night, why don't we all get together and do the pasta dinner together and then just hang out at the BCV's and talk? Maybe help family members make posters or something??? There are a couple of very big, very comfortable rooms we can use at BCV's. What do you tink?

tw1nsmom - thanks for sharing ((HUGS)) and to you too Sundie for your advocating for your special needs children. who knew with the start of this training group that I'd find two other moms raising a child with a disability, oh I hate putting it that way but there is no good way to say it is there? You all see my avatar and tag and know my youngest DD has JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) and i know the heartbreak that a Mom feels watching her precious child cope with a chronic health conidition, whatever it may be.

btw -- on another note - I admit I have a terrible memory - no hiding that flaw -- can I just outright ask everyone here to post their real name?? I'll start -- i'm ohMom (goofy I know, I meant OHMom when I registered and didn't capitalize, now i'm oh-mom and disers think it's b/c my kids say "ooohhhh mom" sarcastically, well they probably do. I almost re-registered but my Mom and brother talked me out of it; saying it was good for laugh) but when we meet in WDW you all can call me Molli :teeth:

yes, that's "Molli with an I" you can ask AEG about that. she'll say it's b/c it looked so darn cute == :crazy2:

karen -- i'm fine with wherever we pick to make posters. I need lots of beauty sleep so I hope to be back to my room by 8 p.m. the night before the race.

today I met my DN and we hit the trail - we actually tallied up our loops/stretches and figured we are walking 7.25 miles not 7 as Mom and I claimed last week. today we ran some intervals and completed 7.25 in 1 hour 38 mins. I like that ok! and i'm not near as sore as last week -- good news! maybe taking an extra day off helped me. I'm considered going down to 5 day workout routine for the next two weeks to see if it helps in my soreness and tiredness! I'm going on the Fast Track WW sunday for two weeks so I really think that's my plan.

PD to all for a wonderful weekend! hey whoever posted they had nachos and margaritas (yum!!) i'm sorry you didn't read my inspirational message before you went! but you are forgiven and next time i KNOW you'll make better choices? ;) tonight DH and I are going out to dinner, let's see if I eat my words! i hope not!

Hi everyone!!

Molli--I'll start out with you....my "real" name is Monica - Mishoe is a nickname I've had since '82 (eek! I can't believe it's been that long!!)

I have not done well at all this week with "real" walking - did do a mile on Tuesday, but have been trying to get my house in order to show by the end of the month. Rented a storage unit yesterday, and plan to get some (or all) of the already packed boxes over there tomorrow. So, I've been clocking miles walking around the house, and cross training by moving things and packing things up.....do those count??? :D

I WILL be starting on the walk/run program that Ashley sent me (ages ago...thanks again Ashley!) on Monday....as long as I can find it (I think I know where it is). I have a Dr's appt and a painter coming in on Monday to give me an estimate.

Here's my 2 cents worth about early intervention---2 things really (so that's 4 cents, right?) - 1st of all I suffer from dyslexia that was never caught until college - would have made things easier if we knew what was wrong and could work on it. 2nd, my nephew has an IEP too...he's now 8 yrs old, and has been having the additional services now for 5 years--he started w/ pre-k. He's had speech, occupational, and physical therapy incorporated into his school day.

Oh---I forgot to give you guys my report on Contemporary Hill!! How could I?? Well, it was not the hill I pictured in my mind (the one the trams use to get into the TTC). I went and had dinner at the California Grill (which was amazing!) and didn't realize I had driven over the hill until I was at my table looking down. I will say that I wish that hill was at the beginning, not close to the end -- it's not as bad as it could be, but it will involve stamina. It is a steady climb (not steep, but not short). I thought too late about taking a pic of it....but I may be back in Orlando mid-October to look for an apartment, so if I am I'll try to get a pic then.

Karen - regarding get togethers....I'm definately up for group meet at the spagetti thing...I would be up for a BCV meet too, but like Molli said, I think I will be trying to make it an early night (notice I said TRYING!)

On that note--I'll wrap up. Hope everyone is doing well, and that Beth is doing ok.

Good Saturday Evening Everyone,

It feels weird today to not have done my long walk. I've spent the whole day sorting clothing for a clothing sale at our school in two weeks. I have boxes and boxes of stuff people have been giving me and then I had to go through all my buckets of clothes. At my son's school (it's a private Christian school) we are required to fundraise $500 a year. This sale will count towards the total so I'm trying to get as many clothes tagged as possible.

Anyways, tomorrow my sisters Debbie and MaryLiz and I (Susan) are going to walk in the Terry Fox run here in my town. It will be 10K and I think we're going to try and do it brisk. I'll let you know how that works out. We also have a sister NancyK who will be coming with us to Florida in January. Four sisters with a dream of a Donald Medal. Who da thunk it! We've managed to get our first sports injuries while we're in our 40's.

Collectively we have lost a whole person already. I can't remember our totals but it is well over the 150 lb mark. I was just saying to Debbie last weekend that I can't connect people's board names with their real names. They were helping me out but I'll still need a cheat sheet.

Anyways, have a super Sunday everyone and I think we're only 16 weeks away now.

Last night I had lasagna , gralic toast and a brownie. I think the carbs made my run doable. I took off this morning and knew I would be doing a long run/walk. I was thinking maybe a 5.0 mile. I ran the first 1 mile in 13 minutes!Amazed myself when I checked my pedom. I continued on and tried a new route. Gorgeous Day!! Fall colors and a Azure blue sky, wooly catapillers on the road! Well, it wound around a way I have never been and by the time I steped on my front step I had traveled 6.5 miles. I was in pretty good shape too. Not too winded or sore. Needed a bit of recovery time. Then off to soccer games with grandson. Hubby is sick with a head cold. Both girls won. My 14 yro. got 2 goals!! I' m just vegging and watch HGTV. Tomorrow I will do a little less on my walk. I'm dragging the dead weeds(I killed on purpose) out of the yard tomorrow and planting grass seed. According to the gardening books, this is the best time to plant a new yard for the spring.
I teach primary(K,1,2) Special Ed. Been doing it for 20 years. Love my job and kids. Really can tell when the kids come from early intervention programs. They are ready to learn to learn. I know how hard it can be to trust"strangers" with your prized possesions, but it always works out in the end. Love to watch the A Ha! moments with the kids.
Hope Beth is able to contact someone soon. Thoughts are with her.
Have a beautiful Sunday Wishers! My real name is Beckie.

a quick checkin... then we're going out to eat, and I'm eating anything I want! :p

I finished my half marathon in 2:23:24. Far from the front, but certainly not at the end. I'm a little tired and my legs are sore. Tomorrow should be interesting!

I'm a teacher too. Spent 15 years in primary grades, the last few in 7th and 8th.

Have a great Sunday!
Colleen

:wave2: Hi Colleen! Congrats on finishing the half. Heck, I WISH that I could do it in that kind of time. Actually, we did 10K (6 miles) in less than 1.75 hours today. I'm thrilled with that!

I teach first grade, and my school is "core". I love the kids and the parents are okay-usually. Sometimes I'd like to bop 'em one! But I've been at this school going on 16 years, so I must like it!

Monica....how do you PRONOUNCE your nickname? I tend to say "mishu" -mee-shoe(like in Mulan) since my DD has a good friend who she refers to as Mishu. :)

Beckie, that's an awesome time for you on your long walk. Way to go!

Molli, that's one of my favourite names. MY Molly was a gift from the moment she was conc....

Pasta dinner together sounds good, Karen. Thanks for looking after the group.

Got to run to check supper. Have a great week, everyone.

Remember: Just put one foot in front of the other. . . and soon you'll be walking out the door. and ... Slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

to say that I did walk 6 miles yesterday wanted to do 8 but my DH ran by me (literally he was on his way to a 9 mile day) and said my mom called - so I thought I better truck on home and call her - turned out it was nothing important but by then I was out of the notion to walk another 2 miles.

I think I mentioned I have had a troublesome tooth this past week - well it is really a troublesome crown (saw the dentist Thursday) - anyway - woke up yesterday and my face was all swollen (chipmunk cheek) so a call to the dentist asking "what's up with this" - he gave me the yada yada (won't bore you) but said it was okay to walk - no jogging or running - well okay - we all know that meant - the whole way yesterday I just wanted to jog some - why is it when we are told "no" it becomes obsessive to do "it" - yes - even when we are a past-middle-age adult  I made it tho - no jogging - today my cheek is just semi- chippymunk - I will be having a root canal through my crowm - now "ain't" that the pits - one tooth that can pass for a decent looking one and it gets a filling too! (Actually, this is the 2nd crown in my life that I have had to have a rt canal done after the crown - statics say 1 in 3 fail - just my tip of the day in case there are any crowns in your future)

I definately want to continue Molli's thoughts on just how "cute" it looked to spell her name ending in "i". I decided her middle name of Kristine (yes with a K) - together it gave her the "smartest" looking monogram MKB :teeth: Actually, her dad picked her first name (though I really do like it) I thought it would be so clever to have it with just and i at the end - she just doesn't see it that way - even to this day. There were no drugs involved when I decided on this spelling - she likes to think that I was still in la-la land (c-section drugged) nope, thought of this CUTE spelling of her name all by myself ::yes:: Ah - yes - I hear the cheers and applause for my ingenuity !!

Now to the real name part - I am Beverly - like to go by Bev - my nickname is Bebr (DH gave me that in high school - many years ago) and of course it's easy to figure that my DGD's call me "grammy".

Have a good week everyone - actually I am hoping mine includes having that root canal done - hard to believe I am saying that, but the sooner the better and I really hope it can be done before our vacation (Oct 1st) - I'll keep you posted :wave2:

I almost forgot - awesome times for everyone - Colleen - you did good ::yes:: and so did everyone else - keep up the good work!

I just have time for a quick post. Time is flying and it was a busy end of the week at work and DD is keeping us busy running her to all her different activities, but she is soooooo much happier at her new school so it is well worth it. This next week at work will be even busier, a few people are gone on vacation so I have to work extra but that means 2 of us get to be off together for the marathon in Jan. so I will put in my time now. I did get in a 90 min walk on Fri. and a 40 min. bike ride yesterday and today was a rest day. Tomorrow I hope to (or should I say plan to) walk or bike again while DD is at volleyball practice. I'm still working on the eating thing, some days I do so good and then there are others where I blow it big time AGH.
I only had a chance to very quickly skim through the last few posts and it sounds like everyone is doing GREAT! Keep it up! Collen your time sounds awesome to me, you are going to do so well at WDW! Debbie you did great in your 10K too!! Bev good luck with the root canal! At least you know the tooth will feel better afterwards!

Have a great week everyone!

Cheryl :sunny:
