Marathon Trqaining Thread for 9/12-9/19

Hi All :)

I did 7 miles in 92 minutes yesterday. I'm psyched! I didn't get sick afterwards this time. I drank a juice/water mix right when I finished. I think that helped.

Wow, it looks like everyone is doing so good again this week! Keep it up!

I got in a 45 min. bike ride on Sun. and then I got the stomach flu Mon. so today is the first day I walked since. I broke it up in 2 and didn't walk as fast as what my ususal has become just to get back into it again after being sick. I did get in a total of 95 min. of walking (it felt good to be up and moving) and 5 min. of stretching, which is more than I originally thought I'd do today.

I saw Oprah on Mon. seeing how I was home from work sick. WOW what a show! Did you watch it yet Grammy?

Any type of mini meet sounds good to me! I just can't wait to meet everyone!

Keep up the great work everyone!

Cheryl

Greeting from Ivan Hurricane Central! We’re hunkered down in our plywood covered fortress, waiting on Ivan to come and go. If you watch the weather channel, we’re 40 miles north of Pensacola. Our house is over a hundred years old, so it has weathered many of these storms, but the trees weren’t so big then! (AND I wasn’t here then, either!) So…we wait for the winds. It’s raining a bit and we still have power, but my mom who lives 3 houses away has no power. Hubby is on his way there to bring her and my sis back here with mom’s oxygen machine. Mom’s not happy so it’s going to be a miserable storm!

We’ve been told to expect the power to be out for 3 weeks. I’ll jump back on when I’m back. Maybe I can get some walking in since I’ll certainly be “grounded” from my computer!!

Karen, I’m game for any kind of a meet, just keep me posted. Hope your mom is safe.

Please keep my family (and especially my mom!) in your thoughts and prayers.

Happy training everyone and I’ll talk to you as soon as we’re able.
~~Beth

Beth, (If you still have power to read this) I'm glad you posted to let us know how things are going for you with Ivan. I have been thinking about you because I figured from a previous post you made that you probably lived in Ivan's path and I was right. Be safe and take care!!!!! I'm praying for your whole families safety along with everyone that has been affected by Ivan and everyone that is still in it's path.

Cheryl

Beth, PD your way for ol' Ivan to go gentle.

I had another pretty good day. I did 4 miles in 60 minutes. It is moving right along for me. I am hoping to do the same tomorrow as I will be taking DH to PT and I can have easy acess to their outdoor track. Only it looks like the rain will be moving in right about the time we are due there. Oh well, here's hoping.

Ashley, JellyRolls will work for DH and me. Will send you info requested.

I am praying for all who are in Ivan's wrath. Please be safe.

I did get a 50 minute work out in while my teenager was at church.
I did 25 minutes on the circuit and 20 minutes on the oliptical bike and a good 5 minute stretch. Yesterday I only went .5 miles on the bike. Today I went 1 mile. I was dripping with sweat. I realized the bike was set at a 9 elevation. It was higher than yesterday. It was so nice to get it in without having to make another trip to town. It was pouring tonight and windy so I opted not to run. Tomorrow I should be able to get a good run in. I've been really sticking to the "plan". It is discouraging not to see the scale move yet. Am hoping for success next week. Just got a call and my grandson will be with us for the weekend!! We will have to play outside all day!! My girls have a soccer game on Sat. in town. The rest of the weekend is mine to play with. I may do some refinishing. I have 2 antique tables to do before winter. Oh, I'm babbling it must be bedtime. Have a great Thursday!!!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you to you all. Last night was the first night this week where I didn't have to be out all night at a meeting. I really, really wanted to just sit in front of the TV and get caught up on my soaps.:hyper:

Well, I went up to the computer and read Beth's post that she is going to try and still do her training even though a hurricane was on her doorstep. I thought well, we have a sunny night, not tooo hot and really no excuse to not go out. I decided that I would do a quick 10 minute walk and then a 10 minute bike ride instead of my 45 minute walk. Well, I was about to lace up my shoes when my DD comes over and says "Mama, time for walk. I go get in the troller." So, I ended up walking with her for 35 minutes (our route is getting shorter or I'm moving faster) dropped her off, went on the bike for 10 and then did a cool down stroll for another 10 minutes around the block.

The best part was I felt good afterwards. My two sisters and I are doing the Terry Fox 10K this weekend so I really did need to get out and stretch those muscles.

Anyways, I can assure you that if I hadn't checked this board I wouldn't have gone out and this morning I would have been feeling awful, so...

THANKS!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

PS. Beth, I"m praying that you and your family will stay safe and everyone else unfortunate enough to be in Ivan's way. Take care.

Hey everybody! Sprry I haven't posted for a couple days, but my SIL and her DH have come for a visit and I ahve no timer while their here! I got up early this morning because I wanted to post quickly!

I'm so impressed with all of you! You're all doing sucj a great job training and the enthusiam is spreading! Yesterday I took my SIL to the coast an I did my 2 miles walking along the beach. It was beautiful, but, walking on sand is NOT the same as wlaking on a road! I felt fine while doing it, but last night, my legs were slightly wobbly! I can't imagine what they would've been like if I wasn't use to walking!

I can't spend too much time here right now- just enough to let you all know I'm here, still walking and wishing I could post more. I'll be back again to let you know how I did today-

ok i'm mostly caught up - less the last couple posts but i'm waiting on a ride and haven't brushed my choppers even yet!

anyhow -- i did a 45 min walk/jog -- jogging two .5 mile intervals --for just over 3 miles. i didn't sleep well, felt sluggish, i'll elaborate later. i WI this morning and haven't lost a single pound this month - but i'm listening to Dr. Phil again and realizing i'm not making choices to support weight loss either

ok

Beth -- if you see this and don't mind - PM me or someone your cell phone if you think that will work first so we can make sure our training buddy is ok! prayers to you and FL!

My thoughts are with you Beth. Our school is do a coin drive for the red cross. The proceeds are to go to the victims. We did this for the victims of 911 and they collected 3,000.00 in pennies. I will be donating my change jar to the cause. It is much more important than our WDW trip. Best of luck!!

I did get a run in tonight 3.24 miles in 65 miles. Still a turtle but I'm moving . The scale budged for the first time in 3 weeks, today. Must be doing something right. I made the 1/2 way mark on the September Challenge! I need to get 700 minutes in before the 30th so I can keep my August clippy. ( Fudged and went 3 days into Sept. before I finished the challenge. Hey, 4 months ago I might have done 100 minutes a month.

I was feeling overwhelmed today because the financial monster is lurking around my door. I have been juggling and rearranging but haven;t found the answer yet. I know It is right in front of me but I can't see it. I came home feeling that if I opened the mailbox there would be more bad news and there in a small yellow package was all the inspiration I needed to get though the next week. Thank you so much Grammy!! It is beautiful!!

Have a great weekend !! I'm off to make spaghetti for hungry soccer girls!!

FOUR DAYS ON PLAN! Wahoo! Today wasn't *totally* on plan, but I did exercise for an hour and a half, so I will count it. I only ran for about half the time I was supposed to, but I was running late for my aqua class with my mom! Water aerobics is really tough work, but so much fun! So, I'll consider myself still on plan...

I swam laps yesterday, also, for 40 minutes.

Tomorrow I will go finish off with a run or something, then on saturday I am doing six miles, run 6 min, walk 1 min. I'll let you know how it goes!

I've also been doing Slim Fast. I love it! The shakes and bars are really good, nad hopefully I'll notice a change when I step on the skale next. Hopefully I'll make my Thanksgiving goal, since I can't seem to achieve any other challenge goal!! Maybe I set my goals too high? Or maybe I've just been really lazy lately...

Beth - I've seen the pictures. I really hope you're doing okay!

Off to do some lesson plans! Keep it up ladies! Send me your info if you haven't already!

Ashley:wave2:

Back for a few more minutes tonight. I did my 3 miles today in 55 minutes- and quickened my pace slightly. Today I took my SIL and her DH around Mt. Hood and up to the top then out ther other side to see Multnomah Falls. It was gray and cloudy- but we really enjoyed the drive. I walked halfway up to the top of the falls and couldn't go any further- my phobias kicked in! Oh well- maybe next time!

Beth- my mom called and said she was fine, but that a tree had fallen in the yard and hit the shed in the backl yard. Luckily- there has been no damage to the house. I hope you're fairing as well. like you- she said they were told they wouldn't have power for 3 weeks as well! i hope that is one thign sthat really doesn';t happen! that'd be awful. Please let us know if you need help girlie! We can send food!!! Anything you need, just put out an SOS nad we'll be here for ya!

Mom- I have Beth's addy, but not her phone number. If she doesn't post we can call information and try to get her home phone to see if everything is ok- if that doesn't work- we'll have to use snail mail..... or my mom!!

Congrats everyone on your progress! You ALL RULE!!!

YOu are all so great I love reading all the posts:)

Congrats on all the fantastic training:Pinkbounc

Ashley once you get all the info I think we should send out an email to see who wants a mini meet and where, etc. We really need to make some plans. I'm up for jr, I've never been there and always wanted to go:earseek:

Karen when you're done playing tourguide let me know if you called aobut GG. Let me guess, heights phobia?

Good for you Susan getting out there instead of being a couch potatoe:bounce:

I walked with a friend yesterday for 3.6 and with a wisher friend this am for 5.72- yippie:Pinkbounc I've made my goal of 15 miles this week, actual total 18.57 and I have tomorrow. I think I'll bike tomorrow to get those other muscles going.

TGIF get out and enjoy it:wave2:

AEG, I got home to the mail last night and found a beautiful gift and inspiration from you. I am wearing it now! Thank you so much for your kindness.

Ashley, I emailed you my info. Did you get it? I didn’t get a confirmation response so I don’t know if it went to “email land” somewhere.

Way to go everyone!

Well I meant to say that one day this week I just didn’t “feel” like going out to walk. You know what I said to myself?—
Remember: Just put one foot in front of the other. . . and soon you'll be walking out the door.
Slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!
Debbie, Thanks for that bit of inspiration. It did work for me that day.

So far I have Winsor Pilates and chair exercises to show for today's work. Tonight is Friday Date Night here and DH and I are going to eat somewhere and I'm really not sure if we will do anything else. If not, I probably will get in some sort of walk.

Keep on keepin' on

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I've been lurking lately. The beginning of the school year leaves little time to read everything and post, so I've been skimming through the boards. Hopefully things will quiet down soon.

It's great to see everyone working so hard and doing so well.

I've been dealing with some motivational issues the last month or so. I've been getting my long runs in, but have missed an occasional daily run. I think I need a little break! But not until after Sunday. I have the Phila. Distance run, yup, a half marathon in 2 days. :crazy2: I know I can handle the distance (I had a training run of 14 miles) but every run becomes it's own individual adventure, so who knows what will happen!

Have a great weekend and train well!! :sunny:
Colleen

I wish I could say my progress this week has been as impressive as all of you. I walked on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I did pretty well with food choices about 2/3 of the time, and the rest not so well.

Things are pretty hectic here. The kids are loving school and Spencer is doing great in the "regular" preschool. I'm really glad I had his IEP ammended though. The class that he is technically supposed to be in still hasn't integrated. They "may" do some integration next week. The other parents are not happy. Because his IEP says he has to start every day with 1/2 hour of therapy and then go directly to the Alphabet Soup program (the regular preschool), that is what they have to do for him. The only negative is that there isn't a special ed. teacher there to help him and there won't be one until they fully integrate the other class. However the teacher in Alphabet Soup is great and has been teaching for a long time and used to be a special ed aide. Her two assistants are great too. Katie is getting into the swing of things too. I think it was difficult last week to go into a class where she didn't know anyone, but she's quickly making friends. DD and Ds like being in the same class, but reportedly rarely play together. I'm kind of glad. It gives them a chance to make seperate friends.

On the home front, we're in the middle of a major bathroom remodel. It was on the schedule for sometime soon, but had to be moved up. Katie decided that she wanted to help me clean the bathroom (she didn't ask Dad if she could...I was out grocery shopping). Our sink has never drained properly and everything in the bathroom is basicly old and yucky (no matter how much I clean). Instead of using a wash cloth with running water to clean the sink, she used toilet paper. It didn't take long for the sink to become irrevocably clogged. So, now DH is in there tearing everything apart (we don't do anything the simple way). He's putting in a new sink, tub, tub surround, subfloor, linoleum, toilet, medicine cabinet , and lighting. He says it should mostly be done by Sunday night. However, I'm not sure which Sunday it will actually be finished. I may have to rejoin the YMCA just to get a shower  .

Beth, my thoughts are with you. I know my renovation is a minor inconvenience compared to what you're going through.

oh my!! i can just envision this cute-pootey cleaning the bathroom with TP!!! how adorable! and helpful I may add! tw1nsmom can I be nosy and ask what disability Spencer has? I feel sorta-comfy asking since you seem to be open about it, and you may have shared and I have a terrible memory. I hope to not offend you, just feel like I know you all already:wave:

COLLEEN!!! it's time already! the 1/2 marathon is SUNDAY!!!! oh i'll be thinking of ya and sending muchos PD your way!!! i'm so impressed that you are able to go the distance on SUNDAY!

well gals I took a day of rest today. I have a head/sinus cold trying to come on and I must've slept on my neck wrong two nights ago b/c it's very sore and i'm popping Aleve/advil all day. My DN just emailed me and we are meeting tomorrow morning at 7 a.m., weather permitting. otherwise I"ll just have to drag myself to the Y and get on a TM there.

on a good note -- DDs are both having friends sleep-over and ordering pizza. i was just out running errands and picked up my favoriate Subway salad and no pizza for me tonight! that is NOT good fuel for a long powerwalk tomorrow early a.m.!!

Tlily - i'm proud of you for just doing it! cyber high five!

hey i've never been to JR either, sounds fun. I have a tentative plan for my group but it's flexible still.

WAY TO GO WISH WALKERS!!!!!! remember this weekend when you are tempted to stray off plan eating wise to look at your lime green beauty on your wrist and be inspired by us -- here on this thread -- training with you. We need to build muscle and we do that when we eat healthy lean protein! not sugar! (that sidenote is more for my benefit :hyper: )

I know I was here already today but i checked in again after the cruise board and I should have checked before I went out to dinner:( Oh mom your words would have meant so much if I had read them but now it is too late. I was totally off plan for dinner, 2 margaritas & nachos:rolleyes: But I will keep you in my thoughts for the rest of the weekend!

Ohmom: I'm not offended at all. I am pretty open about it. It's such a big part of my life right now plus, I'm now a big proponent of early intervention (even if dealing with the beaurocracy is a pain in the backside sometimes).

Spencer has yet to receive an official diagnosis. He has delays in his gross and fine motor skills, as well as a speech delay. He has an extensive vocabulary, his problem is more with mouth muscle control/articulation. He also has some sensory issues. They think that he may have something called nonverbal learning disability. It means he has trouble with the nonverbal part of communication/learning. He has some trouble interpreting facial expression and tone of voice (he can't tell when we're angry or not...if we tell him calmly to stop doing something he'll say nervously "are you angry"). He has trouble doing free-form puzzles (not the wooden peg ones) or building block patterns (visual-spatial difficulties). He sometimes has a little trouble interacting with his peers (he's great with adults). He is a lovable, charming, bright little boy(great with computers, knows almost all his letters...).

When he's officially diagnosed we'll know better what lies ahead. He's made major strides this past year and hopefully will continue that progress this year. I just feel like, if he's going to catch up with peers, I'm going to have to remain vigilant about making sure he gets all the help he needs.

Tw1nsmom,

Thank you for being open and sharing about your son. My son, Joshua, is 4 and has an IEP for sensory integration disfunction and impulse control issues. I could relate to much of what you said. Joshua goes to a regular preschool but has OT at our town's special ed program and has a behavioral therapist meet once a month and work with his teachers for special incentive and focus programs for him. He has what is called "low muscle tone" which means he needs much more impact to feel things than normal. This makes him very rough (both with other children and himself, and me!). He will jump from heights as tall as 5 feet if someone doesn't stop him. But he has a very gentle spirit and kind heart. He is also big for his age, and very strong so I always worry that he will be perceived as a bully.

I am also a big proponent for early intervention.

Sundie
