Christmas is gonna be here before we know it... and then the BIG DAY! WOOHOOOOO!!

4 weeks to go- I just can'tb elieve it!

This week I'm gonna try to do all my assigned mileage. I think it will be kinda hard. My shins are a little sore today from walking the 8 yesterday, but honestly, they aren't that bad. SO- I'm just gonna try. This weekend, I am supposed to walk 12 miles. AND- I'm going to a wedding in Utah, so I'm not sure how I'm gonna do it. I may just try to do the 12 on Wednesday, and see how it goes.

Good luck everyone - stay away from injuries this week!

Four weeks from now we should be sleeping in and trying to move around. It'll all be over except for the healing. Yesterday was a rest day for me but I did do some crosstraining?? (If you call shovelling slush and making snowmen crosstraining.)

Guess today will be a treadmill day as we're supposed to get a half a foot of snow between now and tomorrow night. I HATE snow!!!!! But I hate it more when the wind blows it around and fills up my driveway after I've shovelled it. I guess though, I'll be crosstraining again out in my driveway.

Have a great day everyone and let's have an awesome week!!!! :Pinkbounc

Hi all! The weather has turned cold just as I have restarted to train. I did two miles yesterday and three today then 6-8 on Saturday, with a four and two 2s in between. Does anybody have an idea of how cold it is likely to be on marathon day? Is a tanktop and long sleeve coolmax type shirts and a fleece with a big black garbage bag overdoing it to begin with? I have coolmax runners pants and of course my lower leg wraps on my legs. I also have a fleece hat and gloves to stay warm until we get going. Am I overdoing it?
Just a tip the Gaylans sports store near me is being bought by another sports store and most of their running stuff is 25% off. I also got Gaylans brand coolmax socks for $9.00 for 3 pairs.

I did a slow 2 mile stroll around the mall today. My feet are feeling a lot better, but I wanted to take it easy until they were completly healed. I bought some New Balance Cool Max socks and they seemed really comfortable. Of course the real test will be my long walk on Saturday.

I'm wearing a long sleeve coolmax shirt and coolmax running pants/capris (they're like tights). I plan on layering on some of the clothes (sweatsuits) that are too big for me. I liked the idea of throwing my old clothes to the side of the road as I begin this big challenge. Is anyone else wearing the tight runnung pants, or are you going with the loose kind?

I did 2 miles on the treadmill and 2.5 miles on the bike today at the gym. I was hoping to do more today, but I just got new shoes and they were hurting my toes :-(

I am planning on wearing pants that are tight around the thighs and flare out at the bottom. I am still not sure exactly what else I am wearing. Today the weather here is warm (75 degrees), but the high for the next 2 days will not be above 60 degrees. The weather here this time of year is so unpredictable, you just need to be prepared for everything.

Did my 2 miles today--no back issues during it--just the same overall sensation post "pain in the ****" from the 20.

I'm up to 6 miles tomorrow--and it will be in the 30s :( . So I'll get to practice race like conditions. Then I'm taking the girls over to Magic Kingdom to see the Christmas Decorations.

I haven't even started to think about what to wear that day. Any tips of what to wear vs. what not to wear? Is it best to wear tighter pants and a longer shirt? I sure couldn't wear those pants if I didn't wear a long enough shirt to cover the back side and thighs. I am nervous about the whole thing now as it is and then to think that I haven't started to think about clothing or fanny pack, etc. I'm going to go visit a couple of other threads and pick up some tips on the clothes, etc. as well.

Way to go for all of you that are getting your mileage in. As others have said too, please keep away from injuries. That is something we don't want to have to deal with as the time is closing in.

okay, I think I get the prize for cold!! Woke up0 Sun . am to 50 mph winds and 5 degrees(windchills in the -20s). Great rest day!! Didn't leave the house.Today I got up to -4 below and a (-27) windchill. Gee, do you think I ran on the treadmill? 55 minutes of run 2 walk 3. Finished with a 16 min. mile average. Tomorrow is a crosstrianing day. funny, I used to dread 30 minutes of exercise, now I get so excited when it is only a 30 min. cross training. HA. On Sat. I will run/walk a 10 mile. i'm going to try to not look at the mph and hope for the best and finish the 10 . I t should be interesting. I'm thinking i will be wearing my coolmax flare pants and my jogbra and sleveless coolmax shirt UNDER tearaway sweats and an old sweatshirt. I will be wearing my windbreaker with a kangaroo pouch in the front. When I heat up, I will tie it around my waist with the pocket in the back to hold stuff I would put in a fanny pack. It worked well this fall when it started out kindof cool.
Hope all are well and warm!!
Tick- Tock!!

It was COLD here today, but not as cold as by decaff. I did do my 4 mile walk outside though (I hate the treadmill that much) it was 30 with a windchill of 17 and those 30 mph wind gusts just did not feel too good in my face. There were a few times I thought about quitting early but I just kept thinking about all of you guys and I kept trudging along, now I can say I'm glad I did. I went shopping today and bought some new shoes after doing more research on what type I need. I have been wearing the shoes around the house I think these might be the ones I do the 1/2 marathon in. I will wear rhem around the house tomorrow night after work again and if they still seem good I will try them out on my walk on Wed. I am planning on doing my long walk, 10 miles, on Wed because according to the weather forecast that is supposed to be the warmest and driest day this week, it is actually supposed to get up to 40. I am so looking forward to tapering back after this weeks long walk!!!

I am so impressed with the posts from the end of last week that I read! We are really racking up the mileage now!!! Lisa and TriMom WOW you are amazing running all those miles! Karen I am so proud of you, you got your 8 miles in! And if I remeber right alot of theothers walked around 5-8 miles over the weekend! :cheer2: Congrats to all of you!!! :cheer2:

Keep it up everyone!!! We are so very close now. WE CAN DO THIS AND WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT!

Have a good Tuesday everyone.

Cheryl

I FINALLY got back outside. Had a really bad week last week and told myself I wasn't going to let long, stressful hours at work sideline me. For goodness sake, I live alone.....the only one I have to take care of when I finally get home is ME...so why wasn't I doing it????? Why is it so hard to remember that a nice walk makes you feel BETTER?????

I'm off to pack a healthy lunch now and to finish breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, be sure and check in here http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=696216 for Sat AM WISH meet.

Hi everyone,
I went to start buying some things for the race (coolmax socks, etc) Is there a certain brand of socks, pants, etc that is the best. Any recommendations would help. I feel lost since I waited so long.

I did 2.25 miles on the treadmill Friday night and was really sore since I hadn't trained in a while. Tonight I'm going to try for 3-4 miles and see what happens. I have to make up time since I missed so many months of training. I was doing so well in June.

Anyone know of a training schedule for people who don't have much time to train. I was originally going to run some of it, but now I think I'll do mostly walking. Maybe I'll do 5 minute running bursts but It will depend on how I feel.

Good evening! I was able to get 4 miles in at about 34 degrees so if it is cold on race day I think I will be alright. As for my running pants they are long and coolmax type so they will be like tights but are really the best for my legs while working out. Hoping for 3 in the same type of weather. Keep it up everybody. See you in less than 4 weeks.
Karen, my nametag wouldn't open, do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Haven't read the posts---

Okay here is my issue--ran 2 miles yesterday and felt okay--only did 4.3 today (out of 6) and had to actually convince myself to stop b/c it wasn't feeling good. I just don't know what is up with my back. However, I am nauseaus and was gagging yesterday--that coupled with the backpain is reminiscent of when I had the flu last year. So now I'm wondering--and hubby wasn't hear last year when I had the flu--he was out of town next week when I had a cold and now I am getting sick again--and he's going out of town tomorrow. So it is official. If he's going out of town--I have illness to look forward to. I have decided to skip running the rest of the week. #1 if I am sick--then rest is in order. #2 if I am injured--then rest is in order. #3--coach says if your body is really telling you it doesn't want to run, then listen--so I am listening and I am taking 3 days off. I hope it is illness versus injury. I WILL get my Mickey medal!

(And nothing is cooking in the oven ;) )

Lisa- Glad to hear there is nothing in the oven. That is what I was thinking as I was reading your post. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling good. Definately listen to your body, it knows! I hope it's over quickly if that is what you have. Sending you some pixie dust that you don't get sick.

Guess what everyone- I walked 5.25 miles just now on the TM. YEAH! I think I should be able to do the half. I was really scared I couldn't. The first two were the toughest, but once you get a rythym it gets easier. I was going to try for 6 miles, but I got a cramp in my left foot and It was starting to feel tough to keep up with my pace.

I did 3.77 miles in an hour so that is right under a 16 min mile. At the end of 79.22 minutes I had done 5 miles. Is that fast enough to keep the sweeper from getting me?

I feel good about the 5 miles since I haven't been training since June. I'll just keep this pace and build my miles up.

Everyone is doing so awesome. You all inspire me so much!

Welcome back to training mode, MelanieC ! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Sunday was my rest day after Saturdays 2 1/2 hours. Then yesterday I wasn't feeling very good so we got some errands done last night. Got up this morning and decided not to go to work. It's one of those typical cold/sore throat/sinus/achy things all happenin' at once. Was feeling much better after my 4 hour nap this morning, but I'm now really bagged. I will set the alarm for tomorrow, but if I still feel the same, I'm staying home another day. I need to get well! I don't have time to be sick. Doesn't my body know that I need to do a 10 mile walk this weekend??? Ugggghhh

I'm taking Lisa's thought process and getting my rest though. My body is telling me it can't train right now, and I'm not going to get stressed over it. Heck, I moved the week of the Niagara race and basically did NO walking that week or much the week before that (although I did move quite a few boxes which was definite x-training ;) ). We now officially have snow that does not appear to be going away. This will make the outdoor training more difficult, so I might be mall walking early Sat morning.

Happy training everyone! I'll be back on track by the weekend :)

Uh oh- I can't find my race packet. I know I had it around 11/11 or so because that was around when you had to cancel to get a spot in next years race. DH thought I threw it out because I wasn't going. I don't think I would have done that. I would have kept it to read for next year's race. Anyone know if there was anything I need in that packet? I wonder if I can get another one. YIKES!! I'm going to find my registration e-mail and see if I can find a way to e-mail someone. Wish me luck.

For Melanie C*****

[You might look at Marathoning for Mortals by john Bingham(Book). It is great and you might have a chance if you start ASAP. His plan runs Sun. Rest, Mon. 50 min of run 2 walk 3. Tues. 30 min cross training. Wed. Rest, Thurs. 50 min. of 2 run -3 walk, Fri 30 min. crosstraining and Sat. ( this week ) is 10 miles.
Next week follows the same pattern with a 8 miles Sat training.
Good luck!!

Call (407) 896-1160 and talk them about your race form. It was inside of your race booklet and it had your race # and release on it and it stated you must have it to register.

See you there.

Please. I havent even gotten one yet in the mail.I called them and told them they said they would send another but still nothing!
I am stressing.

It is waaaay too early here. I'm up and on my way to run 11 miles. Wish me luck. In my new shoes, too. Hope this fruit kicks in and gives me some energy!

If you don't have your packet with you, there is a special table you stop at first (at the W.W.O.S.) and show your i.d. They should sort it out for you. I'm not sure what to do if you never got the packet, though. I'd be worried, too. Keep calling down there to get it sorted out. Good luck!

I'll report back later, hopefully not limping!
