Marathon training check in thread

Shoes, I use Saucony brand. I seem to always gravitate to that brand whenever I try on shoes. I also think a running specialty store would be able to fit your needs better. I have found a store such as that and I will not be happy if I can’t buy in this type of store again. I also need to get a second pair and a set of orthotics. I will be doing that maybe next month.

Thanks too for the music info. I am finding it interesting to hear what everyone listens to while on the route along with hearing what everyone is doing for their training.

Melanie, good luck figuring out how to get through your difficulty. I know your pain.

Oh and my name=Lily (in my title)

Wow thanks for the warm welcome.
I will be starting my walking regimen tomorrow.
Everyone is so enthusiastic, can't wait to get started.
Good luck everyone.
By the way - I found a cool website for shoes and sneakers

Thanks for the info on shoes. I'll have to search for the right store, usually we just go to a sporting goods store.

I bought a pedometer at walmart and it works great. I have a cd player with a fanny pack but it skips too much. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I want to find the running times magazine with the marathon ad, who knows where to find it? I hit barnes & noble & borders and they both only carry runners world, it had no ad for the disney marathon. Need to put up some motivating pics.

I would love to know about the magazine too!! I need it for my scrapbook!!

hey all -- did make it 3 miles today walking/jogging in roughly 40 mins. still a bit draggy-like but getting there

annieT has the Bingham book i think -- i bounce

gotta cut it short -- keep up the great workouts!!

Hi WISH walkers  it's been a busy week so I haven't posted in a few days. I found the Running Times magazine at a local grocery store and I just got my most recent Runners World magazine in the mail and no add this time around (I was hoping they'd have another different one to hang. DH is wondering why there are all these magazine pages hanging in the closet LOL). If anyone is really interested in the pictures I have I"ll ask DH if there is some way we could scan them and I could PM or email them. I don't know enough about the computer to know if that is possible  .

We went to a waterpark resort in the WI Dells over the weekend so I did ALOT of stairclimbing to get up to those waterslides, Yesterday I got up early before work and walked on the treadmill for 30 min. at 4 mph. When I first started treadmilling 2 months ago I had a hard time going 4 mph for any distance and yesterday I could have kept going if I would have had more time. You do get stronger and more stamina if you stick with it!!! Today I did a FIRM tape and tomorrow I am supposed to get out of work at noon and if that truly works I plan on coming home and doing at least 45 min. of a run/walk before DD gets home from school.

Monica thanks for posting about the CD fanny pack. We need to go to Target tomorrow anyway so I think I'll be buying myself a Mothers Day present ;)

Karen could you post the site where you found the info about the pedometers? I have been thinking about maybe getting one before the 1/2 marathon and that site sounds like it would be helpful. How is your hip? I hope it is feeling better!

Melanie here are some links to info about chafing, hopefully they will help http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300,1-78-79-411,FF.html?site=RunnersWorld http://www.walking.about.com/od/chafing/ I hope you are feeling better!

Keep up all the great training everyone!!! We can do this (and have fun too)! I can't wait to meet all of you in Jan.

Cheryl

Well, I've been up early twice this week, but contrary to the "It'll give you energy." thought, I ended up exhausted. :( Yesterday, life got in the way---driving the kids etc., so I used that as a rest day.

I've decided to go back to the alternating walk/jog that I was doing last summer, hoping to strengthen my "jogging" time. I'll try to get out to do some more tonight. Hopefully I'll be home earlier than yesterday!

I bought Saucony shoes, too, but I like the idea of alternating 2 pair, so I think that I will buy a second pair with the next paycheck.

I have a HUGE fanny pack for jogging-holds the CD player, CD's, 2 water bottles etc. but I find it: hot  and too big in the heat. This week, since I wasn't doing LONG walks, I just listened to the early morning sounds :)

Thanks for the websites. I had a quick peek, and will look to them when I have more (dare I say it?) time.

You have all inspired me to get my memory journal started. I was given the journal for Christmas. . . and it's blank! :earseek: I'll have to see if I can find that ad.

Good luck, everyone.

Good morning everyone,

Last night I ran for 1 mile and walked the rest for a total of 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. It must have been harder to run last night because it was much tougher than the night before last. I had a different type bra on last night and It started hurting right before the 1 mile mark so I decided to go back to walking so the raw spot wouldn't get any worse. I am going to look into some good bras. My boss told me about a company called total 9 sports. I can't seem to find the web site though. She says they have terrific sports bras.

Debbie- When I exercise in the morning I have tons of engergy after that, but by 7 or 8pm I am so tired. It makes me sleep really well.

Cheryl- Thanks for the info about the shafing. I am definately going to have to find something, because I can't have this happen every time I run. I don't seem to have a problem when walking, or even running for 5 minutes at a time. Its only when I run for longer times and I get real sweaty. Cool Max clothes might help me too.

Molli- I know what you mean about feeling draggy sometimes when doing the running/walking. I wished I enjoyed it as much as doing the FIRM. The end result will be so worth it though. We are going to have so much fun in FLorida in January, and we will feel so great after the marathon! Keep up the great work!!

Krisnoth- Good luck on starting your walking program!!

Lily- Glad to know you as "Lily" now! I just figured your nickname was after the flower!!

Keep up the great work everyone!

I fell way behind on my training. I didn't do any endurance run/walks for the past 3 months. Tuesday I did 7 miles in 100 minutes. Now I'm psyched up again ::yes::

My biggest problem with endurance sessions is the chaffing/rubbing from bras and waist bands, etc. I'd love to hear if anyone has found "the perfect sports bra"!!!!

Hi everyone

Well I got out of work at noon today, like I hoped I would, and I was driving home thinking I'd get on the treadmilll and then do the FIRM Super Body Sculpt upper and abs. I got home and noticed there was a box by our front door. It was my stamping order from the Angel Co.! Well I go and grab the box and turn to step down the stoop by the door and I twisted my ankle and fell flat on my hands and knees. I am such a clutz. I felt like such a fool, luckily none of the neighbors were around to see. My ankle and wrist are a little sore, not as bad as I originally feared they would be though, but instead of treadmilling and FIRMing I ended up on the couch with my foot elevated and ice on the ankle. It's not feeling too bad now, so I am hoping I willl be able to get back on track tomorrow. Well at least I got to look through my box of new stamps!

I hope everyone else is having a better day than this!

Karen thanks for the link on pedometers! I'll check it out.

Cheryl

:wave2:

Is anyone else getting notification that people are posting to this threadd, but then can't get past Cherylfrom WI last post?

NEVER MIND! It's ok now... I'm just havin' a hard time today!

Cheryl.......OUCH! Are you ok?

Cheryl!!!! Are you ok??? Please make sure you rest tonight - no use pushing yourself and possibly injuring yourself more!!

Hope you're doing ok.

Keep up the great work everyone!

So sorry to hear about the ankle accident Cheryl, hope it feels better:)

What is the weather in Wisconsin that you went to a water park?

Is everyone doing the 1/2 marathon walk or are some of you running? I really need sneakers, today was only 2 miles and I could feel the need for cushioning:mad: My feet weren't sore but I'm sure I couldn't do more than 4, maybe tomorrow.

My real name is Maryellen by the way. Is there biking in the training plan? I'd like to get my bike checked out and hit the local canal path trail.

Hi MaryEllen!!! Good to know your real name :D

I (at this point) would like to say I will be walking the 1/2 marathon, but unless I can speed it up then I will have to do some running (still only averaging a 20 minute mile). I have gotten down to about 18.5 min mile on the treadmill, but not for too long. I just don't want to get swept - I want my Donald Medal!!

Take care of those feet!!

I'm at a 20 minute mile right now too, but as we walk, it will naturally become faster- don't you think? I'm definetly walking it as of right now, but I'm hoping by this all comes around, I'll be doing a little running/walking! We'll all start out together- and all end at different times. But we will be able to identify each other by our shirts nad we can make a lot of noise when we come over the FINISH LINE! And then ,...... you nkow what happens??????????

WE GET OUR DONALD MEDALS!!!!!!!!!

and our nice little silver mylar WDW marathon blankets!

Hi everyone,

I am really interested in the half marathon. I am ready to register, but I am waiting to find out from Kamy if she has any rooms left in the block she has reserved. Does anyone know?

Sounds like everyone is doing great with their training. I have the same "bra" issues. One word...VASELINE! A lot of marathoners use vaseline to ease chafing.

My husband just finished his first marathon on Kiawah Island last December. It was funny to see all the vaseline being applied, but even funnier to see the men putting band-aids on their nipples! I guess they have chafing problems too!

I will be by myself, so I would like to join up with a group to hang out for a few days! Anyone have room for one more?:wave2:

Welcome aboard princessmomma! It's good to have one more person join us. I'm not sure if Kamy set aside extra rooms for people or not, but I'm sure she will answer your qusetion one way or another. If not, perhaps someone will have room for you- If not, I'm sure something can b e worked out! Keep reading nad keeping track.... don't give up! I know that there are several tahta are going down alone. tthe hangin' out thing- I'm positive you'll have plenty of people to hang out with down there! It's a pretty good sized group of folks going down....

Hi PrincessMomma!! Welcome!!

Funny story about the bandaids--can't say I ever thought that guys would have that issue :D

Welcome to our marathon thread!! Not sure what's going on with the rooms, but you will not be alone for this! It's been discussed that there will be several WISH events over the Marathon weekend....when are you planning on being there? My friend and I will be arriving on the 6th, and leaving on the 12th. Not sure what all we'll be doing, but I know we will definately be hitting the parks (it will only be her 2nd time at the World).

Ok --- I walked 45 minutes today...and with that I have almost hit 10,000 steps for the day WOOHOO :bounce: :Pinkbounc I'm so excited about that! I'm at 9810 now, and I still have to go over to my sisters house to move a couch....

Have a great evening!!
