Marathon Temps

I'm sooo sad about the weather for Sunday - It can be 80 for the rest of the week with joy!!!! - but 79 for Sunday is just flat out tooo hot! They also only have 1 sponge station, at mile 17.

Just so you know why I'm freaked out - I did all of my long runs 12 miles - 18 miles in 30-45 weather. I wore shorts & long sleeved running shirt for 42 +. I wore running tights & long sleeved shirt 41 and under. I did wear gloves for the first 5 minutes the day it was 30. No coat, no sweatshirt.

I will be the crazy women running naked through MGM - be sure to look for me :earseek: (hee hee hee)

But I am worried about how hot I will be.

Look! There goes TriMom!!

I understand your concern, TriMom. I really do. I have MS (recently diagnosed) and heat can cause my 'symptoms' to reappear. For me, that means numbness from my trunk down to my feet. Not so easy to walk at a fast pace when that happens. I also have difficulty walking in a straight line when I have a flair-up. I need my body temp to stay DOWN, so temps in the 40-50s are ideal for me. I still sweat with those temps, but it is moderately. I am just hopefully that it will be breezy and that we won't hit those highs until 1-2 pm each day, otherwise I will be melting!

I have a suggestion. Trimom, you geetey and me (with the BAD back, heart palpitations and shin splints) can all walk together! When I have my heart palpitations- which I had ALL DAY yesterday- I get light headed. If we stick together, they'll think we're normal! But.... sorry.... I draw the line at taking the clothes off! :)!

As a last resort--I've sprinkled myself with water from the cups---if you hot--it won't matter. Just be sure to look and make sure it isn't gatorade.

Okay--the Floridian admits concern for temps....I left wearing a jacket this morning (in the dark)--I had to take it off very soon after starting--and it was warm. And I was walking---only two miles...and it felt stuffy....

Now that I have made all of you feel better ;)....dump water on your head if necessary--it really really helps!

My Sister has already threatened to do that. Good tip about the powerade though. ;) That would be a sticky mess!

EEK! Karen, what's up with the heart palpitations? Excitement?? Is there anything to be done to help?

I had the palpitations during a trip in July- my potassium was low- so taking potassium fixed it. Same thing now. Only- it was lower this time. I just happened to have my blood drawn yesterday and my Dr. called this morning. She bawled me out! She said to go ahead and do the walk- only because she knows how long I've been training for it. But she did tell me not to push myself. So- I won't. At least I can still try- right??? I'm taking an extra potassium pill until Sunday.... it should be fine by then.

The Florida temps look wonderful, but the Jersey temps are no fun! We're expecting snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday, hope it doesn't interfere with takeoff.

OMG I am ROTFL at the thought of naked people due to the heat! Loved Geetey's post "Look ... there goes TriMom !" I spit out my water at the computer screen when I got to it.

All of my recent training has been in the frigid cold. When it was +4 degrees celcius, it was really warm! My running shorts don't match my cool max shirt, so I'll be the one in blue shorts with a purple shirt  It'll look lovely in the pics :)

Oops ... guess I'd better shave my legs, and perhaps actually pack a razor to take with me. I'll add that to tomorrow's list ... right after my 1 hour massage at 9AM.

Good night everyone!

Mary-Liz

I was planning running pants and long sleeve and a sleeveless running shirt but I am questioning that now. I am thinking about a t-shirt over the sleeveless shirt. I will also bring everything, lay it out Sat night and decide that morning. Bailymouse, know what you mean about the weather, my mom and I are flying out of JFK on Friday am.

Now who had to go and mention shaving? Another thing to pack because I don't have time tonight! I guess it is a good reminder since I plan on spending some time in the pool.

Karen, PLEASE take care of yourself! Nothing, including that Donald Medal, is worth your good health. Pop those pills and feel better soon!

MaryLiz, remember the Penguin says it is Running GEAR not an outfit so it doesn't have to match. It sounds like you will look perfect! ::yes::

Ladies, I will see you all on Sunday! Naked or Not!! :teeth:

I don't care! Shave off something that keeps me warmduring winter storms??? I don't THINK so! :earboy2:

So...I'll be the one with the lower fur coat!
