Marathon pacing/watch question.

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good watch to help with pacing in the marathon. I think this was one of my big problems from this year. I didn't really have an accurate pace keeper. Did anyone use something special that really worked for them?

My normal watch died the day before the WDW Half this year because I was stupid and wore it into the hot tub. We scoured MGM and found a Mickey Mouse digital sports watch that was waterproof (to 30 meters) and had a stop watch function.

I started the stop watch when we crossed the start line. Since we were shooting for a 15 minute mile pace it was easy to calculate - 15 minutes at mile 1, 30 minutes at mile 2, 45 minutes at mile 3.....

Worked wonderfully! I think there are lots of inexpensive digital sports watches out there with a stop watch function.

I like the Polar HR monitor. I can just look at it and it givesme the info I want. They come in many varieties, as well as most heart rate monitors. You might want to look into some sort of heart rate monitor.

I wore a wrist GPS that cost me $99 shipped...it calculates your current pace (but you can't see the average :()....but you can program it with a "virtual partner"....I had mine programmed for 7 hours for the full...but mentally checked out and forgot to look at it again after mile 18 or so. But it was totally keeping me in line through the half.

It is the Garmin Forerunner 101.

I think the 201 was availabe at Target for $149.

doe!!!!!!! how funny!

same thing happened to me! except it was my son's watch I was planning on using! the day before, he went in the pool and although it ws suppose to waterproof......... it died!

I dont much about watches nor, official marathon gear but, I would say you can probably get any cheap ole watch and use it, then use the same one youhave been training with for the big day!

good luck

I mentioned this before on a post so sorry for repeating. Walmart ones are great - big numbers, big buttons, easy to use. I think mine was $14.99. Sadly, it just 'exploded' on a plane so I'll have to buy one here but can't wait to get back to walmart.
