Mar. 13, 2010 Eastern Magic - "Caribbean Amphibians"

We have the ATV excursion booked on St. Maartin. On St Thomas we are planning to just wander perhaps the tram and maybe enjoy the ship.

we will probably shop in St.Maarten and go to the beach in St. Thomas. :thumbsup2

I just ordered a waterproof box from Amazon to take to the beaches to keep our camera and phones dry....not too bad for $6.99.:cool1:

Never thought about this. What does it look like? Our camera is waterproof, we bought it last summer specifically with the cruise in mind. I'm not planning on using my phone due to the roaming fees from Canada.

It's by Otterbox - which I swear by for my iphone protection and got great reviews - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BYBZ86/ref=oss_product - it's small - but to keep wallet and phone dry at the beach and sand-free it's going to be good. I may get another depending on how I like this one.

I want a waterproof camera - but you really have to shell out some money for a good one and I just got a new regular camera --- so I don't know.

We plan on going to the beach on both islands, as we have 4 young kids to please. We might go to Coral World and then to the beach. I plan to get a few hours shopping on my own, or with my hubby both places also. Is it worth it to buy sand toys and take in carry ons? Or just buy them there? I thought I could make up a little gift package with the pail as the container and put a Mickey or Minnie in it and some goodies. (4 of them!)I'd love to get that pirate stuffed character they sell on the ship, but its $23....too much I think.i'd like to find a model ship that my 13 yr old grandson could put onetogether rather than the stuffed Mickey. Anyone have any ideas where I could get either before hand? What # do you all recommend of sun screen? NOT LONG NOW!!!!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

I like at least 30 in the spray form - it seems to cover better. I have a ton of it that I packed since we ran out last year and it's sooo expensive to buy on the ship or the islands. I've been thinking about getting dollar store beach toys to just throw out afterwards -- have to see how my space situation is...

I just got my room assignment! 5146! I was hoping to not have the solid wall verandah and this one has it. I am trying to get that switched but this cruise is so full, I'm not sure if that will be possible. Wish me luck!:wizard:

We don't have a veranda this time -- we opted for the extra cabin instead.

Our camera is an Olympus. I think we paid around $300. It seems to take ok pics so far.

I bought the family underwater disposable cameras for Christmas, though now I've learned I have to pack them in airline carryon luggage because the TSA x-rays will damage the film.
Inspired by the trip reports, I'm going to pick up a regular disposable camera for DD so she can take her own out of the water too. I think we'll surprise her with it once we're in Cocoa Beach.

We are thinking of NOT changing it, unless we decide to go for an upgrade. I love the location, the only negative was the solid wall verandah. It is great to finally have a stateroom #. :goodvibes

...just got the personalized autograph book i made at Shutterfly -- it looks really good -- now I just have to figure out if we're really going to carry this thing around...:confused3

box came today. too small for both phones. only fits camera. going to find a bigger one....

I just had two graphics laminated before I turn them into magnets for our stateroom door, and am thrilled with the results. Will be hiding them to surprise DD much closer to the cruise date.

One thing I'm loving about this cruise preparation is that it's driven me deep into Craftland, and I'm having fun with all of the projects. A great way to get through the dark, cold winter evenings. I even have our FE hanging in the livingroom. Works of art shouldn't be hidden away now, should they? :rotfl2:

Somehow the "crafty" gene skipped a generation in my family!:confused3
I love to make door magnets but they are mostly simple ones. I love to see all the different ones on the ship.

I know - it seems my whole suitcase is filled with totally non-essentials -- mostly ordered from Shutterfly!:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I am so not a crafty kinda person. It's just not my thing. However, shopping I can do! We got our FE that I ordered from Ebay today and it's great! Just what we had hoped it would be. Too fun!

snowing again....

at work on Wednesday - my teaching team was going hysterical laughing that I was already packed -- for the most part. They insisted that you don't need to pack more than a couple days in advance. None has ever been on a DCL and only one had ever been on a cruise. They have no idea the props that need to brough on a trip like this!:lmao::lmao:
