Map of DVC ownership by State - RED state vs BLUE state

Very interesting, Mickey'sApprentice! I wouldn't have guessed, for example, that there would be more DVCers in MI than WI.

Those two were pretty close together.

I was really surprised by Louisiana and Arkansas.

Louisiana came in at a very respectable 19th, but Arkansas was 46th!

It has always amazed me that Disney is much more popular in the North than in the South. I think it may be easier to take a 2 hour flight than a 12-15 hour drive. Cost of living and incomes are also less in the South.

...Just as I would expect more members per capita in Houston and Dallas than in the more rural West Texas and South Texas areas.

A brief anecdote consistent with your view about major metropolitan areas...I was sweeping our front walkway early one morning in January when a gentleman I didn't know drove up, stopped, and handed my DVC annual statement to me, remarking that it had been misdelivered in his mail. He also remarked that his statement had been misdelivered to another member.

Mickey's Apprentice:

Great job. Those stats are awesome.

I know a few other DVC'ers from work but being from Jersey I didn't realize that 1 out of every 695 people were DVC'ers.

Now it is quite easy to see why "JERSEY WEEK" is so crowded and so hard to get DVC reservations for...

.... and why I can't find any affordable air fare during JERSEY WEEK either.

You could think of it as even more than 1 in 695.

I took the # provided by Disney as # of memberships in each state, and divided it by the state population. Even though DH and I have 1 membership, we consider ourselves both DVC owners. If you assume 2 DVC members in each household, that number goes to more like 1 in 300. Wow!

I think Michigan would be much higher if we used today's populations....I'm pretty sure our population has taken a nosedive in the past few years--and those that have left probably are NOT those of us lucky enough to afford DVC! But it's pretty commonplace that if you're going up north, you're headed farther north in Michigan, and if you're going down south, you're going to Florida. I wasn't aware there were any other states down south? :confused3 :rotfl2: :lmao:

One reason, the North may be such a Hot Buyer for DVC, they have horrible winters. In the South, we have nice winters. There is not a need to go to Florida in the winter, unless we just want to. We drive to Florida for cruises. I have to say, that I was shocked at how many Northeners were DVC owners. I started asking before I bought. It was just about everyone that I talked to the week we rented. This was one of my deciding factors. I was afraid that we just would not get down there, when I saw how far people were traving to make their trips ( I was not on the Dis yet) it helped me see that we would use ours.

I was surprised to see how many DVC members are from Massachusetts. I knew New York and New Jersey had a lot just based to the cars we see going up and down Rt. 95. I'll have to try the red state, blue state thing.

Yeah since I'm stuck in a blue state I try to spend as much time as I can in a red state!!!!
