mani-pedi prior to sailing or 1st day?

I would go with before. For me mani and pedi is more of a fact of life than a treat. It takes SO long for polish to dry (can you tell I am an instance gratification person?!). In fact I need to squeeze some time in my day tommorrow to get it done because of a wedding on Saturday. I am planning on treating myself to a massage on board - to me that is sheer heaven!! I would rather do the maintenance thing before hand - along with the wax and spray tan (remember my instant gratification point). It is pathetic that I bother - but hey, it makes me feel pretty so what the heck!

Grooming is important...I used to have a neighbor, she never wore make-up or did her hair...when the appearance thing came up she said "We're married, our work is done"...just found out she and her husband are now divorced...am certain it is not due solely to lack of mascara or 20 extra pounds, but taking care of yourself never hurts. My DH has told me how much he appreciates that I keep myself up and don't take him for granted. To stay on topic, I get the pedicure before the cruise, cheaper.

Just don't call it a manicure. :) Hmm...how about telling him that you'd like to treat him to a "new" service...a sports reflexology hand treatment, which includes a "free nail trimming."

I had mine the day before. Beware, the sand really does a number on your toes.

i've done both and my local manicurist is better and cheaper. the spa mani/pedi was rushed and 2 days later looked ragged.

i'd recommend the rainforest.

I, too, will have my pedicure done before we leave for our cruise in November, not that it's cheaper, because from the prices I've seen it will be about the same. I'm sure I'll get better service here...:cloud9: $60 without tip and I get the massaging chair for an hour, a nice cold beverage brought to me, cheese and crackers if I desire,a nice soak in the jacuzzi foot bath, sea salt scrub and massage to the knee, moisturizer with hot towels to the knee, sloughed, trimmed, and polished with those funny little flip-flops to go. princess:

I remember reading on a post here many months ago about the pedicure...the woman suggested not getting your calloused spots sloughed too much. Apparently she had her normal pedicure and done so and said she paid for it with all of the walking she did on vacation. It seems her calloused spots were ultra sensative after the pedicure.:(

So, just something to keep in mind if you plan to do a lot of walking.

A thought:

I normally use OPI nailpolishes. Lasts for a week or so without chipping. I plan on taking the color I want to the salon and have them do them, that way I have the polish with me on the trip incase of touchup or redo is necessary :)

I had mani/pedi cures on the 1st or 2nd day. Very pricey! I also had my hair cut, highlighted and styled for formal night. Excellent job on all counts.

I did not feel there was a big sales push. When an item was mentioned, I asked the price and then replied that I was not interested because it was too expensive.

Regarding price-although the beauty salon was expensive, it was no more so than a good Manhattan salon (not that I go to Manhattan salons ;) ). So it depends on what you would normally pay.

Next Feb '05, I plan to have my beauty treatments at home. And save a fortune!

I got a pedicure onboard because we spent a week in the parks before going on the Wonder. The pedicure wasn't any pricier than one I could get at a local spa but it wasn't as good as the pedicures I get locally.

I love Sally Hansen's Mega Shine Top coat.
