Mandatory Room Inspections

True but part of the terms and conditions to use your timeshare is that you agree to abide by the rules of Disney.

And currently, Disney, as property manager for us, requires them.
True, but they change them arbitrarily and I don't have a say so or see them coming.
Also remember you are tenant not an owner. Just like if you had an apartment where the landlord had contractual rights to inspect the property.
I am an 'owner', for the next few decades at least. I have a deed and I pay property taxes. haha
That's an extremely flawed view, if you own your house do you not still have to follow the rules of the town or HOA? Just owning something doesn't give you the right not to following the rules.
You did read the entire post? The town or HOA doesn't come into by house to do mandatory inspections, at least not where I live.

I am going to assume your joking , and not like the facebook crowd who apparently never read their deed and contact.

My attorney had the best line for the difference in your rights between "deeded" DVC vs a RTU timeshare. He told me to think of it as the difference between buying a used car vs a pre-owned car.

We've had bad experiences with room checks. The worst was last October at Jambo House in a 1 BR. DH has just laid down for an afternoon nap and I was in the bathroom and almost in the shower. It was our last day.

A man banged on the door (Privacy Notice on door and latches/locks on). I didn't hear him and am surprised DH did. He answered the door and the guy backed off. Five more minutes and DH would have been out cold. It had happened in the past, but this time we really felt violated and that despite being members for 30 years, we had ZERO privacy. It ruined that happy feeling for sure.

We are going back in 2026 and I will talk to the manager at the front desk and leave a sticky note on the door. If I do not take a rest in the afternoon, I'm done for the day.

I've had them come in the room even though I say loudly "one moment" - loudly enough that they certainly should have heard. Much louder than the children you sometimes hear giggling or crying in the hallway on their way back from the parks.

I hate the policy frankly.

You are correct. You don’t get a say because we agreed to buying a timeshare on Disney property and giving them control to manage the property and set the rules.

I get you don’t like the rule and that’s fair. But, until Disney decides they don’t want it as part of occupant rules, we are stuck with it.

Why don’t people use the privacy latch? They can’t come in if you engage the privacy latch.
They can pop that open if they want. Paint scraper will work - that is what maintenance frequently used when I worked for Disney! Though not for problems getting into rooms for room checks! More because the latch flipped when someone walked out without their room key (to get ice, etc.) and the door slammed and it somehow triggered the latch to catch.

I've had it happen to me at every single hotel I've stayed on the strip in Vegas after the 2017 shooting. Bellagio, Cosmo, Aria, V'Dara, NYNY, Park MGM, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Resorts World.
I'm not necessarily for or against this practice, but this was not my experience.

I was sick with the flu on my last Vegas vacation this past March, and literally didn't leave my room at Cosmo for 2 straight days. I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign out, and no one came in or even knocked on the door.

Name names. What chains or hotels are doing this to this level besides Disney? I have had many hotel reserve the right to enter on the DND signs- but none insisted on a daily inspection.
I’m with you. Disney is the only company that barges in or rudely knocks at the crack of dawn that I’ve experienced.

Sick at Bellagio for a couple days last year, even had to extend a day and wasn’t disturbed once.

Yes, the latches can be flipped if motivated, I’ve seen them use a wire hanger at another hotel, but I don’t recall any reports of Disney housekeeping flipping the latch to barge in. Continuing to knock, call and then ultimately send security to do the room check? Yes. If you then continue to refuse to let security in at that point is when I would expect the privacy latch to be flipped by Disney CMs.

It's pointless and ridiculous security theater. If they knock and you tell them through the door that it's not a convenient time, they will come back at a time of your choosing, giving anyone planning any kind of atrocity ample time to hide any evidence of their scheme.
So true! At check-in once, we were told to call if we wanted the security check at a certain time. One afternoon I called housekeeping because I wasn't feeling well, going to take a nap, and wanted to ask if they'd come after a certain time for the security check and they did. Would have given me plenty of time to hide things or store them in my vehicle. Instead, I napped and felt better.

But I haven't at Aria, Bellagio, Excalibur, Wynn and Encore (multiple times). We leave our DND sign or flip the switch that puts on the indicator light for DND for days at a time. In addition there's Tropicana and other places my husband has stayed at on the Strip. We come and go into the room often especially when we've stayed at Encore. We've never experienced a security check and don't do daily housekeeping.
TBH, it doesn't really bother me. I'd rather have them check than be part of a mass-shooting.
You may not realize how crass that sounds, especially for people who were there. We landed about 8 hours after the shooting. The shooter went in and out of their room multiple times during the day for days. 1 security check randomly done (as in the time of day, room selected, etc) is not the be it all you think and it has already been understood that these so-called security checks would not have prevented the attack. So please think a tad more before you say something in such a nonchalant way

I am completely for the security checks, but not for the ridiculous reason of looking for guns as that fruitless, you could fit them in a purse.

I support it because it protects our maintenance fees from someone trashing the room.

However, I do think they can get it done during the day when we’re at the parks are in the pool. I do resent the 6pm knock when I’m in the shower.

You have never lived in a condo , or in a state like NJ where they do mandatory fire and safety inspections in your unit.
Yes, I did. And I still own one in San Diego and another in Wisconsin. Neither have those inspections.
I am thinking about a condo in Chicago, but I have held off because of the high HOA prices.

At the very least, Disney should be a little smarter about which rooms to inspect. Say you have a family who are annual pass holders, bought into DVC 15 years ago and have been visiting a couple of times a year ever since, staying in a GV with their four kids and Grandma in tow. I think we would all agree that Disney security demanding to inspect their room while the kids are napping, based on the possibility that they are planning a terrorist atrocity, is completely and utterly pointless and takes away from limited security resources that could be better deployed elsewhere.

Except the housekeepersdo empty trash!

This really is about doing what they need for liability purposes, even if it seems silly because those wanting to do harm will find a way.

But, you can absolutely work with the front desk to set up a time to get the rooms checked as I know some who have done it because they were doing work conference calls and needed a few hours mid day to be undisturbed.

I honestly will tell a housekeeper on our way out in the morning if I see it that they can go check our room since we will be gone a few hours!

It always is checked when we are out!!! lol

I think anyone up to mischief will work around this silly policy. Disney would be better served just having their staff be on alert generally for strange behavior.
Yes. This policy is more about enhancing the perception of "safety" without materially impacting the reality of safety.

I would much rather have the resorts focus their energies on getting rooms cleaned and ready by the 4:00 PM check-in instead of having housekeepers perform security sweeps and emptying trash cans in already occupied rooms. Or, at least do the security checks AFTER all of the rooms needing to be turned are ready.
