Mandatory evacuation for port area

Brevard County (home to Port Canaveral) has issued a mandatory evacuation order for the barrier islands (Cape Canaveral is on a barrier island) effective 2pm Thursday.

A dusk-to-dawn curfew will be in effect in the evacuated area starting on Friday.

Dave...can you imagine the destruction of 140 mph winds hitting the Port????????? And it seems as if right now...or at least when I left the office at 4...that's where she's going to make landfall.....

Let's all remember Shirley, Norm, the port crew, and everyone else in that area in our prayers! I saw the devastation that Charley did to the Kissimmee area, and I hope never to see anything like that again.

I just feel awful thinking of what could happen. We were just there and it was so beautiful. Everyone in the area please get yourselves to safety.

I am gonna jump in and say Yep i can definetly imagine the destruction of the port as I live about 3 miles form it!!! I figure our little ole island will survive... may be a little salty after this weekend but hopefully we will have a home to come home to.. hope everyone has a great weekend!! I am heading over to disney tomorrow since we are in a mandatory evac order starting at noon.....

I am assuming with a Mandatory evac. that all hotel guests and employees must leave a well....wow....what a hit to the industry and where does everyone go!!! I can't imagine being booked for lets say the Radisson and then finding out you must evacuate and find somewhere else....a logistical nightmare!!

The newsman just said that they are evacuating the hospital in the port area. How scary for the patients there. He also stressed that this is a "VERY SERIOUS, CATASTROPHIC STORM" that covers 50,000 square miles - yes, I got that right, he repeated it twice.

Hi Dave - boy you are always on top of stuff - Norm is at the port delivering and we are still waiting to see if our landlord is coming to board this whole strip mall - there is no plywood, etc to be found anywhere - the drugstores are closing at noon - there are still a lot of homes that haven't taken any precautions - there are folks just walking around - I even have my birds singing outside in the trees - the port is being closed down by tomorrow - the Magic and the Wonder are suppose to come in Monday from what I understand --the hotels on the beach are closing down and now I am beginning to hear the sounds of sirens - the post office just called me to tell me that all deliveries have been stopped until Monday - Lewis - I have your basket ready but the special things you sent me will not be here in time for your anniversary so I am sending a special one I have here - call me when you get back home ok?
When Norm gets back we will be loading up some special stuff and will be off the pc until God knows when ---
