Managing the Disney Dining Plan

I just booked our Disney Vacation and we will be getting the Disney Dining Plan to go with it. Are we able to determine when we want to use the Table Service from the plan and when we want to pay ourselves? We are going for 7 nights so my wife and I will each have 7 Table Services but my guess is we will use 10-11 between going twice in a day and restaurants that require two.

Can I determine that I want to pay out of pocket for some that require two (b/c the cost is only $40-50 where the regular dinner service is about $30 each) or will Disney automatically deduct it from my plan and just the first 7 will be used from the plan and we pay out of pocket thereafter?

Thanks.

Yes, you can choose when you use your credits. It's not a "whatever's best for Disney" type scheme :).

Just tell the server you plan to use the dining plan when you plan to use it.

Have you looked at the Deluxe Plan instead? That gives you all TS meals, 3 a day so you may find that the extra out of pocket expenses for extra meals on the regular dining plan would be more than that. And you'd get even more meals that way.

Figure out where you plan to eat and which meals you plan to pay out of pocket, then compare that OOP and regular DP total cost with the cost of the Deluxe Plan. You could be pleasantly surprised!

For 7 nights it looks like the Regular plan costs $336/person. Do you know what the Deluxe plan costs?

On the deluxe plan, you would get all the ts credits you could possibly need, plus you get appetizers and extra snacks. If you are just looking to add bare bones 3-4 ts credits, you may be best off just paying oop. But if you want any more than that -- if you would like to bump up to 12-14 ts credits, you want appetizers and more snacks, the deluxe can become a good value pretty quickly.

I ran a thread you might find valuable on this just today - search under the same section as your post with the subject DDX or OOP with a twist.
