2026 Strength Training Accountability Thread

Yesterday was textbook high intensity elliptical followed by lower body day with rotary torso at the end. Can I just say that I am still feeling the effects of that pilates/barre class!?!?! I'm tempted to go to the studio in my town but I really don't feel like paying for another membership right now. I guess I could look to some options on YouTube since it would keep me from having to endure a class setting.

Last night was upper body and elliptical. The good ab machine was broken (again) so I did five sets in the captain's chair instead. I also wasn't feeling up for the shoulder machine in the circuit, so I grabbed some 8lb dumbbells and did a shoulder workout at the end. The interesting part was the elliptical. I knew I was pushing hard and my final mileage was .20 farther than my average and .04 farther than my previous longest distance in that timeframe. What cracks me up is when my Garmin also sees it as a vigorous workout. I don't really buy too much into all of that, but it counted 18 minutes of it as vigorous and gave me credit for 50 minutes altogether of intensity minutes (when adding in the moderate and overall time).

I’m back, good 45 min core, legs, arms this AM with a pair of 25lb dumbbells. Friday will be no weight for the legs with an upcoming race and I will be back in my M,W,F routine. It felt really good after taking a couple days off for SS so I may experiment with skipping the last workout each month for a deload week. We’ll see at the end of May.

Another end of week check in - did all 3 strength workouts this week - decided to try something a little different and did the Apple Fitness+ Strength Training for runners. Nice 20 minute bite size workouts and gave me a few ideas for exercises I hadn't already tried.

This week I'm only planning 2 strength workouts ahead of Broad Street next Sunday.

I had family in town and a race yesterday, but I have been on top of my strength work.

Thursday was lower body and elliptical, Friday was upper body and elliptical. Saturday was a complete break day (unless you count visiting the gym for the massage chair as well as the hydrobed massage), and then yesterday was a light day. I biked for about 15 minutes...really light stuff since I was full on race effort earlier in the day and my watch registered a 45 minute light walk for warmup + light lower body day. I did all of the normal lower body machines but drastically cut my weight lifted. I also did captain's chair for core, but cut myself to three sets.

Checking in weekly to say I've been doing all my PT exercises the past week! Still running 4-5 times a week, and on more than half the runs it feels like this PT is working like magic! My "dead" leg doesn't feel dead anymore pretty much at all, and now I'm just feeling tightness in my upper/outer glutes on that side. I'm told this is progress, and I can move to more strength for that area.

Daily at-home strength prescription was upped this week to resistance banded side-steps (don't know the real name) and bird dogs. Plus the back stretches. I asked if I could add in an arm day, and they said Yes, but I haven't done it yet. Need to get back at that.

So fantastic you're making such great progress!

Popping in here to share some interesting (to me at least) news: If you have Spotify Premium, there are now Peloton workouts available in the Spotify App!

I tend to like Peloton strength workouts but don't feel a need to pay for membership so maybe this will get me to actually commit to strength training more often...

I went to my now-usual Monday morning intermediate Pilates class this morning. Funny story -- I drove my husband's EV and forgot to turn it off when I parked! I wondered why it didn't automatically lock, but I rarely drive it so I hit the keyfob as I walked in to the building. My (thankfully muted) phone kept blowing up my watch during the workout. I peeked during a position change and sure enough, the car app was screaming at me to shut the car off! LOL! Of all the things you can do on the app, shutting it off is NOT an option, So I had to sneak out mid class and turn off the stupid car. D'oh!

It doesn't shut off automatically??
I kinda thought it might, but apparently NO! We used to have a Tesla years ago that DID shut off after a certain amount of time (or at least you could set it to do so), but this Hyundai doesn't. 🤦‍♀️
