Man peeing in trash can.....

I don't know why this got dragged back up, but when I originally said people should call the cops, I was talking about people who don't have the ability to make judgement calls. Cops are (for the most part) pretty good about making judgement calls and this is the stuff we pay them for, so it isn't an imposition.

So, if you aren't able to tell a drunk from a crackhead from a nutcase from a person with some kind of mental impairment...or if you can't get a feel for what you're dealing with and where it is going...or if you have trouble dealing with that kind of stuff, the cops can do it for you.

If you can, great. Go for it.

Also, if the person does have dementia and you can't find anyone they know around, the cops can handle that, too. Just tell the old person you're taking them to the "city center"...or if you're calling the cops in, tell them "a friend" of yours is coming to help them. If you actually use the word "cop", "policeman" or "police station" it might freak them out and nobody wants to cause a confused person more trouble. :)

So that's my long version. :)

Thanks for your input NYBlue, although I still am not convinced that I would automatically call the police. An ambulance might be a better solution. To me, it depends.

Also, can anyone tell me if this store has security?

Honestly not trying to be difficult, just think its important for people to be comfortable with calling the police if they suspect something not right with a situation. In most places the police come with the ambulance to make sure the ambulance workers are in a safe situation. Not always but more times than not, im pretty sure you would get police with this if you just called for an ambulance.

I really do see your point. I think I'm expecting too much from managers. People just aren't trained to deal with difficult situations nowadays so perhaps calling the police is the best thing.

DH is a volunteer EMT, and in the town he's with the police are sent out on every rescue squad call, regardless of what the call is all about.
