Disney Visitor Collapses On Water-Park Ride, Dies

POSTED: 12:59 am EDT March 16, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A man visiting Walt Disney World's Blizzard Beach water park collapsed of an apparent heart attack and later died at a hospital, theme-park officials said.

The man began climbing the stairs of a water ride Thursday afternoon but then told his wife he wasn't feeling well, Reedy Creek Fire Department Deputy Chief Bo Jones said.

The man turned around and walked back down the stairs. When he got to the bottom, he fell and went into cardiac arrest, Jones said.

The man, who was not identified, was later pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Celebration Health, Jones said.

The man and his family were on the Downhill Double Dipper water slide at Blizzard Beach, Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said.

The Walt Disney World Web site classifies the slide as a "Big Thrills" attraction and says visitors can go up to 25 miles per hour in side-by-side speed slides.

The man's family notified the company that he had died and said the man had a pre-existing heart condition, Polak said.

The death is the 10th involving Disney World rides and water-park attractions since late 2004.

I just saw this on last nights news a bit ago (watching somthing recorded) that is so very sad for the family.

Very sad for the family. Prayers offered.

But saying that it "involves" a Disney ride is a bit of an overstatement.

It involves a set of stairs.

Somehow I missed this when watching the news.

It is a sad stories, as all deaths are. My prayers are with the family. :wizard:

ITA why did they go into detail about the slide? The slide had nothing to do with it.

Right! Plus, this only made the national news because it's Disney. If a man died after walking up the stairs in a local mall, the story would have gone nowhere.

Aww...how sad for the family!

ITA with the fact that they didn't need to mention it is a "BIG THRILL" slide, it had nothing to do with his death.
