Man Braids? Just Shoot Me Now

I get my beard braided when we go to Jamaica, but I'd rather leave my hair naturally curly.

A guy at work wears an elastic hairband in his hair every day. When I walk by him I just want to say, "Dude. No."

Man card revoked - if for no other reason than the fact such a style takes more than 2 minutes to accomplish.

:) DH said something similar...like "those guys have just lost their Man Cards. That is, if they ever had them to begin with."

Legolas had hot elf braids, not man braids. :) But Aragorn totally could have rocked some man braids! And dwarves are all about the hair.

I think if they are actually doing their own hair and learning a new skill, awesome! Braiding your own hair is not easy. Some of those look very neat and tidy and I suspect were done by a stylist. Did they have to pay for an "updo"?

And when they have kids, if they're girls, daddy can do their hair for a change.

I agree! Native Americans, Gaelic, Samurai, Viking, Celtics...all braided their hair. (Whispers "And elves...Legolas was freaking hot...")

I am not impressed that Buzz Feed just noticed that men braid their hair.

But, it's young white men who are adopting the style now, so to Buzz Feed it's BIG NEWS.

Perhaps this is why I did not seem to mind the man braids..... And Aragorn....:lovestruc
Course, I am also partial to a man in a kil, so people may not trust my judgement. :D

The only two I didn't really care for are the silver crown one, and the floral one. I don't think the others were too bad. I think some guys can pull it off, same goes for the man bun, which to me, I don't like as much as braids. I think because I am used to seeing men braid their hair, men of all ethnic backgrounds...my step brother even had braids in the 90's. Lol.

This reminds me of an article I read just yesterday discussing the new hashtag- #masculinitysofragile

Meaning, masculinity is so fragile w/ some that certain titles for things have to be masculine-d up so they're manly enough. It can't just be a "bun," it has to be a "man-bun." Ditto w/ the braids - "man braids" & not just "braids."

Although, in some of the pictures, the braids really look kinda feminine to me & not at all masculine like the Indian, Viking, or Scottish braids of yore... LOL!

Where were they when young black men were doing the same thing? Damn near every player had in the NBA had their hair braided a few years ago.

I guarantee that every single person commenting on this thread has a hairstyle that SOMEONE hates...

To each his own.

Really how could my parents hate the one side of my head shaved & green, pink & purple streaks of my 19 yo self who hung in Kenmore Sq in Boston- gee, nothing to see here!!!

I can think of a couple of million trends that have been worse. I don't care what a person does with their hair as long as its clean. I think hair is about the most perfect plaything because it grows back no matter what you do. Yes, there are horror stories of hair falling out due to overuse of dyes etc etc but for the most of it, no matter what, you can just 'start at square one' again if you want. I don't 'do' my hair because I'm lazy and I know if I got any particular cut that requires effort, I would end up ignoring it, so short of a grocery store dye box every 6 weeks, that's the story of my hair.

But I like seeing what people are doing with their hair. Man braids look fine (then again, I've been watching Vikings LOL), don't mind man buns...like I said, there are/have been many trends that have been worse. Nothing will rival baggy pants and butt cracks. I would walk all day behind a guy with a man bun than five minutes having to look at the behind of someone whose pants are around his knees.

I like it "long, straight, curly, fuzzy, snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty, oily, greasy, fleecy shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen, knotted, polka dotted, twisted, beaded, braided, powered, flowered and confetti, bangled, tangled and spaghetti." - okay, not the oily/greasy but friends from the 60s and 70s will know where that's from LOL.

Yeah, but some are a lot more hated (and with good reason) than others.
