Maliboomer to close permanently

I wonder how this is going to affect Screaming! I'm sure they will have to close Screaming as there is no way for them to safely dismantle Boomer since Screaming goes right around it!

They would/could possibly do this after hours, if they did it during park hours they'd have to close the walkway which is a main entry/exit to paradise pier and i don't see that happening.....popcorn::

It's in California Adventures which has a better overall atmosphere and view than Knotts. Also when I'm at DLR and I need a little adrenaline boost, I go on it.

Does anyone know if it is going to be replaced by anything?

Not really, I have heard two rumors, but neither look substatiated so I won't be spreading them. Now it sounds like it will be a picnic area.

I'm bummed to see this ride go. Everyone in our family can ride TOT except DS12 and I, as we get motion sick on it. So, we always ride Maliboomer together (nobody else in our family will ride it) to get our free fall "fix".

Oh, well. I don't plan to go back to DLR for a really, really long time, anyway (most recent visit last month left a lot to be desired). This only makes me want to go back less. Sigh.

What is Disneyland thinking?? They can't use that small of a space for anything substantial! (Picnic-schmicnic!) The ride is already well paid for, and people are always on the ride (though Disney has oft times cheaped out and allowed only one tower to operate... :confused3) It's the ONLY free fall ride I can ride with NO nausea (as Mugglemama stated), a GOOD view of the parks, a GREAT rush....

Disney - do you not want to hear from your fans? This will put such a damper on our next trip as we can't possibly make it there that soon, to make one more ride before the ride closes. (2,000 miles away.)

I don't want to 'try another park' with a similar ride as we use all our money to go to Disney - not other parks, AND as another posted mentioned the park view is *so* awesome.

My DH and DS in particular will be having a hard time not seeing this attraction up and running the next time we go.

I hope that this is just a rumor and not a fact - I don't doubt that OP heard this somewhere, but until we see it on the DL refurb. list, etc., maybe we can all cross our fingers and hope for some wonderful Disney Pixie Dust....

(Closes eyes and wishes really hard.) :wizard:

Anyone else who feels this strongly, please chime in, thanks! :)

It is really going. You can find disney material showing the new pier area and it doesn't have the maliboomer in it. It doesn't fit in with the 20's-30's era theme that the boardwalk is getting. Plus when they built ToT they had two similar rides but one was well themed and liked the other was Maliboomer.

If I told you one of the rumors of what was to take it's place I'm sure you would approve. But like I said this rumor doesn't have any backing so I'm leaving it alone.

Are you familiar with the changes at DCA? You should check them out, everything sounds pretty cool.

It's definitely going away. Here's the article from Disney Park Blog: Disney California Adventure Park Expansion Continues with Goofy’s Sky School and Cars Land

I don't mind repeating rumors, just know they are simply rumors bandied about. :rolleyes1 Everything official or semi-official that I've read recently indicates the area formerly known as Maliboomer will be a picnic area/grassy spot. The two rumors I read about ages ago included a Ratatouille themed ride (which I think is probably long since passed it's time, unfortunately) and a Knott's Berry Farm parachute type ride. I think some nice shady, grassy space would be great, myself.

Did they change the Disney Parks Blog article to include Maliboomer? I don't remember the initial post mentioning it and none of the comments reference it - and i've seen other mentions of the blog post on other forums that didn't bring it up either.

Weird. The info came out around the same time from another source, so maybe it was editted in?

I've been scared out of my mind to ride this. It took me a few rides before I started to enjoy the Tower of Terror (although I still scream and freak out when I see the holographic family waving goodbye and falling). I am not good with free falls, but I might have to suck it up and try the Maliboomer is going away. DH is always trying to get me to ride it.

Found it, the original blog article was reposted on another website when it first came out, that section read:

In order for Mickey and Goofy to get ready for this transformation, Mulholland Madness will close October 12, and the last time guests can go for a spin on Disney’s version of Mulholland Drive is October 11.

We’ve also shared news here on the Blog about the 12-acre Cars Land expansion due in 2012. You might be interested in knowing that Bountiful Valley Farms will close on September 7 to help pave the way for Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree.

It now reads:

In order for Mickey and Goofy to get ready for this transformation, Mulholland Madness will close October 12, and the last time guests can go for a spin on Disney’s version of Mulholland Drive is October 11. For those who want to get a final scream on Maliboomer, you better hurry. Guests will blast off for the final time September 6, as the attraction will be closed on September 7.

Do you find anything that makes it better than the one at Knotts?

Maliboomer and Supreme Scream (KBF) operate differently. On Maliboomer you are shot at high speed into the air and then bounce a few times. On SS you are taken slowly to the top, stay there for a few seconds and then are dropped rapidly towards the ground. No bouncing.

Both rides are fun but Maliboomer is better (IMHO and My DD's).

Last year (before DD was tall enough to ride Maliboomer) we took a trip to SLC and visited the Lagoon. There they have a tower that offers both versions. One were you are shoot up and bounce and they other where you go up slowly and then drop. DD10 loved the one like Maliboomer and hated the one like SS. She didn't like waiting to drop. She loved shooting up.

BTW while I also love ToT, Maliboomer is a completely differenct experience. You get to see everything while you are being shot up. The views are really great. Very exhilerating!:cloud9:

HTH

Sorry I might be in the minority here but I, for one, am glad that the ride is going. Personally, I'm not a big fan because after the first launch, the ride gets very boring. It really is not worth any wait (I always did single rider) and it doesn't seem like a very "Disney" ride. Regardless, I got my last ride in this past trip and I enjoyed it as much as I could.

I can't imagine a worse (noisy) spot for a 'grassy picnic area' what with CS ride going on in the background.

The Knotts Berry Farm ride similar to maliboomer obviously doesn't even come close.

They could EASILY have re-themed/re-painted the attraction. The name wasn't the best, either.

It will be sadly missed by all 4 in our family.

Tower of Terror may be themed but it is so nauseating for me, even when I take gravol prior to (and the screamers on the ride always always always hurt our ears so badly.)

Gol dang. I was hoping it would be next year, if they have to do it at all.

Hubby really really wants to ride it, but hasn't been able to yet.

Stupid prolactinoma...(causes fairly extreme weight gain, or in his case size gain while *losing* weight, and he just hasn't been able to get the strap thing clipped to the bottom of the U on the restraint)

Totally off topic, but I don't understand "weight lose and size gain" ?

For anyone who laments the loss - there are at least 100 other identicle rides to this one scattered around the world. It is in no way unique. Not the ride system, not the ride profile, nothing.

Go find one of those and ride it.

I have to agree with this. There are rides like this in many places.

If you go here - http://www.themeparksonline.com/tpoRides.asp?ID=1833&ParkID=72

You can check out the drop down menu and it lists other similiar rides in parks. Some look even better than the one at DCA (if you're into that sort of ride.)

The last few times I've been to the park only one tower was running and yet the line only had a handful of people in it. Doesn't really warrant the cost of staff and upkeep, I'm sure.

Personally, I say 'good riddance.' It was a ride I never cared to go on anyway. And as mentioned before, if I did want to ride it, I can go on it various parks nearby.

I'd bet money against a "parachute type ride" like KBF's lost, but not forgotten, Parachute Sky Jump. I wonder how that ride was ever legal (if it was) in California. It had absolutely no restraints of any kind.

Totally off topic, but I don't understand "weight lose and size gain" ?

Over the period of 2 years, DH was in Weight Watchers. He lost 60 pounds, very very slowly (not on purpose, it's just how it was happening... .2 lbs at a time), but was getting bigger. After 3 years of MDs and NDs ignoring his requests to do some bloodwork to figure out what was wrong (they thought he was lying about his weight loss), he finally found someone who would check out his hormone levels. And found a pituitary tumor that normally causes upwards of 50+ lbs weight GAIN inside very short amounts of time...that's what was causing the very slow loss (you can imagine how hard he was working to lose, while dealing with a pituitary problem that normally causes weight gain), but getting bigger, b/c the hormone that the tumor was making is the normal hormone that nursing women have, prolactin.

During this undiagnosed period of time, we went to Disneyland quite often, and he kept trying for Maliboomer but he couldn't get the strap to close (the bottom of the restraint has to clip to the seat by a strap). He'd lose MORE weight, the strap still wouldn't close. It was horrible. The last time he tried Maliboomer we were actually awaiting the diagnosis after the bloodwork came back and after he'd had two MRIs; at least he was fairly sure we knew the reason...

Lesson: if you feel that there's something wonky about your hormones, don't take no for an answer, and if you're losing weight but getting bigger, make SURE you're not content with just being called a liar by your health care providers, and find someone who will take you seriously!

So his new weight was being distributed differently or something? Crazy. Will he be okay? Can this condition he has be cured?

I'm surprised his doctors didn't recognize any weight loss. My doctor's office weighs me each and every time I go in so they always have my weight on record.

We finally did this in June since ODD was finally tall enough, plus we had extra people to stay with the little ones. I have to say it's nothing like the Drop Zone rides I've rode at other parks. The biggest thrill was being shot up in the air...there was no thrilling "drop". I was kinda disappointed.

Ick. Good riddance. I talked my DH into going on it with my on my birthday last December. He hates free fall type rides with an unearthly passion (with an exception for ToT), so this was quite the concession on his part and we hadn't done this one before.

:lmao: I'm so like this. I won't even ride ToT with my kids.

I'm sure they will build something better.

I can see why Disney is removing Mailboomer. DCA is slowly aligning its theming closer to "Disney magic" and shedding its California boardwalk amusement park feel. There wasn't anything about the Mailboomer that gave it an "only found at Disney" feel - there isn't any special creativity or fantasy about it. To me, it reminds me of rides I can go see any time at Six Flags or Busch Gardens.

Hi!
Well it is going, but here's the thing. there is no replacement scheduled. The picnic thing is rumor only. I have a lot of friends that work there and I asked them what the story is and none of the employees know, they thought it was weird.

I think it is a mistake, DCA is lacking in thrill rides and they need to add not subtract what they have there.
