Maliboomer to close permanently

After riding the Big Shot in Vegas I never wanted to go on these rides again. Lst time at Disney I rode ToT with DH. It was okay. Now what I know the ride is like I think I can do it again. But I was wondering how I could avoid Mailboomer! LOL. It will be closed/ gone when we get there. Sad to see another ride going but soooo excited to see Cars Land when it opens. That movie was huge for Disney. DD did not care about Mickey last time- she just wanted to mee Lightning!

hehe - we rode it several times in a row - but there was a purpose. It was during the "Year of a Million Dreams" Promotion. We saw a Dreams Cast Member by the exit of Mailiboomer. Thinking that he was getting ready to pass out some goodies, we kinda stalked him. I couldn't go on the ride again and we had to give up. We never did see him give out anything!

All I can say thank god and good riddance. I went on this once and never again. Becides being just a really dumb ride, as a male, it "Hurt" during Launch. Bye bye and like Superstar Lamo, oh I ment Limo, I hope one day I can forget you ever was there.

Eh, don't really mind it I guess.

I wished that it did operate like the one at Knott's Berry Farm. Which is go up, stay there for a bit, then drop down. Either way, whatever is really replacing it, I hope it's good. :)

There wasn't anything about the Mailboomer that gave it an "only found at Disney" feel - there isn't any special creativity or fantasy about it. To me, it reminds me of rides I can go see any time at Six Flags or Busch Gardens.

Maybe, but the same can be said about several DCA rides...the swings, Mulholland Madness, CA Screamin', etc.....all are duplicates of rides found at any seaside park or county fair. Furthermore, there are many, many rides around the country at various amusement parks which are nearly identical in design and function to Splash Mountain and GRR. Maliboomer may not be entirely unique, but as a PP stated, DCA doesn't need to be removing thrill rides.

And, most importantly, the reason those of us who want it to stay feel that way is because the vast majority of us are not spending our vacation money at "other parks", we're spending it all at Disney. That was the case with our family for over 10 years. Knott's and Six Flags haven't gotten a penny out of us in over a decade. No more, though. Disney lost me. After our most recent trip last month, I really think I won't go back for a very long time, if ever. :sad2:

Wow! That must have been a really bad trip! What happened?

It wasn't any one thing. And I can't say the trip was miserable or anything. There were just various things that made me feel like DLR isn't worth the effort or the money anymore, for me personally. The rides seemed really dated and unmaintained (for example, CA screamin' was rough enough that it gave me a headache each time I rode it). I'm not in love with the fact that alcohol consumption seems to have become a real "focus" at DCA (I understand that's probably just for the summer). I could go on, but there probably isn't much point in that. It was a hundred little things.

The only reason I'm still checking in at the DisBoards is because I'm so surprised that I feel this way, I just keep thinking I'll read some stuff on here and snap out of it, lol.

I like Disneyland and Disneyworld. But I also enjoy many other theme parks. As well as many other vacation spots, in general. I have no desire to spend ALL vacation money on Disney vacations.

I guess I shouldn't have said that "the vast majority of us" are spending all of our vacation money at DLR. I don't know that. I do get the impression from a lot of people on these boards that most travel focus is on DLR, and I suppose I assumed the rest. I do know that for us, it's true. We haven't been to a single other amusement park besides DL and DCA in over ten years.

We will miss this ride as well. My first trip back to DL as an adult in 2003, my BIL and I rode that thing five times in a row. No one was in line so the attendant just kept asking us if we wanted to go again.
Last October it was the first "thrill" ride I got my 10 yo to try. She wouldn't go anywhere near ToT, but after the Maliboomer we talked her into it ToT, which she now loves.
Ah, the memories.

I love Maliboomer and hate that it is closing! It's not only exhilarating, I think of Maliboomer as my personal "mechanical chiropractor". It lifts my spine after many loops on Screamin. :scared1: I always feel an inch taller when I get off Maliboomer!

…DCA is slowly aligning its theming closer to "Disney magic" and shedding its California boardwalk amusement park feel. There wasn't anything about the Mailboomer that gave it an "only found at Disney" feel - there isn't any special creativity or fantasy about it...

ITA with Kittyskyfish’s DCA “conversion” comments. They’ll probably remove the boards soon so the entire boardwalk them will be eradicated.

The worst part for me is that I won't even get a chance to ride it again, since my next visit home to DLR/DCA isn't until mid-September. At least I got to ride it many times in May & June.

We can't afford to go to other theme parks either, since we can only afford one family holiday every year or two, and Disneyland has just always been our number one choice but after our trip in Oct. 2009 (massive crowds really ruined the experience) I thought too, that we might be 'finished' for a long while with Disney. Nope... I kept coming back here to the boards, kept thinking about Disney, and eventually found myself missing it like crazy, so we went back in March 2010 and really enjoyed it. I suspect the same will happen to you. :goodvibes

Not all of us live close enough to other theme parks, to be able to go on other 'maliboomer type' rides, and the one at Knott's sounds really poor in comparison since there is no exhilarating 'rush' when the ride begins.

The first few days things seem so magical at Disney then as you really start looking around you can see some things that are not quite perfect, but then, nothing can be perfect I guess, so we all live with the small flaws such as paint chips, etc. The bigger flaws are crowd control; Disney has been so very poor in the last few years in executing proper crowd control!

Not to mention taking out such a fun, cool ride, lol!!

DCA has been struggling for years. It's been an under-attended park, and the problem might have to do with Disney customers. They spend the bulk of their time at DL, not DCA, even with multiple-day park hopper passes. DCA was basically free and that wasn't enough for guests to linger all day. That is the core problem. People would go to DCA for a bit, but spend most of their time at DL. Disney doesn't want this! The execs want the parks EQUALLY attended.

So it's like a restaurant: if you keep lowering the prices and tables aren't filling, you change the menu. This is what they're doing. DCA is tweaking its image to cater to their customers. Attendance records show Disney customers have an appetite for Disney magic; stuff that is unique, creative and magical in a way that only Disney can do.

I'm sorry that you're losing much of the park you enjoy, but there aren't enough of "you" to keep the old DCA attended at an optimum capacity.

Very well said! :thumbsup2 And that makes total sense to me.

And Disney has said, publicly (google it - one of the socal papers got them to say it) that the only reason they're tearing down Maliboomer is because it doesn't fit with the new theme they're trying to put into the area. Victorian Seaside Pier I believe is the new theme.

I also heard that! .. :cutie:

If you think about it how could they really do an overlay on that ride to make it fit with the new theme? It just doesn’t seem possible.

I have never been on maliboomer so I have no idea if it’s fun..i am soo scared of rides like that :scared1: , so for me it doesn’t matter if it gets removed or not.

I am not for rides that have that kind of free fall, but since we will be going Thursday I will ride it for the first and last time.

This is the one ride at either park that I only rode once and will never ride again!
I am glad that I was able to ride it at least once in my life though lol.
I'm not sad to see it go.:earboy2:

I've ridden it before but could take it or leave it, preferably leave it and I'm a thrill ride junkie. Last trip in July none of our party of six had any interest in trying it. I think a green area there would be nice. We had to spend 20 minutes or so near the smoking area there by the rest rooms by Mul. Madness and it's just a sea of concrete around there. Maybe it's all the construction but there's nothing scenic or pretty back there.
