My family will be spending a week at HHI between March 28 and April 2nd. I grew up in HHI, but in the last 10 years I have only been back to visit once about 4 years ago.

We have never stayed at the Disney HHI resort before. We will be staying in a 2 bedroom.

What sort of activities do they have?

Are there any specific buildings or locations you would recommend that we request?

Are there any web sites with specific activities, or where we can get that activities page/calendar they always give at check in?

Any other tips or recommendations for things to do at the Disney resort itself or elsewhere on HHI would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There's tons of info on this thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2329998

about HH.

Talk to the CMs (is it Mike?) about things to do away from the resort -- you'll get lots of good info.

It's kind of hard to find your way around the island -- they have a very strict sign code, so get a map as soon as you can.

Thanks. Its kinda hard to sort through that thread. The majority of it appears to be people saying when they are going or when they went.

Are there any threads specifically about what activities there are to do at the resort and around it?

I'm kinda new to this site. What's a CM?

That part I am not terribly worried about. I lived there for about 10 years - including my high school and college years - and its where I learned to drive. :)

Traffic circles (aka roundabouts) seem perfectly normal to me. :)

Anyone have info about the actual activities at HHI, or how I can get a list of them?

Or any other tips and feedback about the HHI resort?

CM is "cast member" = employee. Sorry, I realized after I posted that you said you were familiar with HH (I've only been there twice, and it's been challenging to get around).

Activities offered in November (some/most have fees): Sun: Wildlife Adventure; Shadow's Toy Box; Kayaking; Dolphin Tours; Sand scultptures; Gyotaku (fish rubbing); Treasure seekers; Campfire
Mon: Butterflies; Kayaking;' Dolphin; Bird watching; Button making; Gator info; Golf lesson; Memory borads; Naturalist walk; Kid's night out
Tues: some the same; Lady bugs; dinosaurs; Bedtime stories with cookies (they have great cookies)

Wed: some the same; Shadow's Funny Bunny Hunt; Magic in the Den; Resort tour; campfire
Thurs: Tee it Up; messy science; (some repeats), ghosts and legends; Mickey tie-dye; march secrets; Goofy Bingo
Fri: repeats; Unbirthday party
Sat: Toddler Sea life; Naure Photography, Kids night out, etc.

Kids Night Out is 3 hours, ages 5-12, pizza and a movie starting at 6:00. ($20 members; $25 guests)

The shuttle to the beach house ran 10 am to 4 pm, but it was open longer than that.

The resort is adjacent to Shelter Harbour which has shops and restaurants. There's a mini-golf not too far away (maybe biking distance, but not walking; the resort has bikes). You can get to the beach by their van, biking, or driving your own car.

Looking for Shadow's toys and hammock, etc. is fun.

You will get a compete list of the activities available that week when you check-in at the resort. Most activities are offered all year but there are often a few seasonal/holiday type things.

The recreational staffers are great with kids and the activities are pretty age appropriate - even the ones for adults!

You can also call the resort and request a fax of the current activities.

Have a wonderful stay!

We just got back. It was awesome.

They had a huge number of great activities.

We can't wait to go back. My parents came down for a few nights and they ended up joining DVC. :)

We were there from Sunday March 28th until Friday April 2nd. We were on the boardwalk in 1521. We probably ran in to each other. We also had a great time.

We just got back as well. Cam home yesterday (4/3) I highly recommend Captain Woody's for a fun place to eat!

Captain Woody's was recommended to us by the CMs at the front desk. We ate there and decided those CMs really know their resturaunts!

Wow. We stayed in 1811 and had a gorgeous view.

Our older daughter made a really nice friend from a nearly building (I believe his name was Christopher). It is really neat how you run into a lot of the same people consistently. The whole resort is very intimate that way, and so many folks do the events that it is great to feel like you are vacationing with a small group of people.

We did so many events we didn't even get to the beach for the first 2-3 days.

Gwyneth must work about 16 hours a day there.

As for where we ate:

Crazy Crab - horrible. Everyone who had some of my swordfish got sick. This was especially disappointing because I worked at this restaurant when I was in high school.

Hudsons - excellent. my wife absolutely loved it.

Lowcountry Crab Boil (at the disney beach house) - loved it

Brick Oven (near sea pines) - excellent. I wish I'd ordered pizza instead of steak. The kids pizza is enormous.

Truffles Grille - awesome. a new restaurant near coligny plaza in the location of the old Hofbrahaus.

Yes, I agree with the view. We stayed in #1812 once and loved the view also. What size unit is 1811? 1812 was a one BR. And we used to love the Hofbrahaus. We'll have to check out the new Truffles Cafe there.

1811 is a 2 bedroom.

Wow. Gorgeous pic that looks VERY familiar. :)

DH and I will be there on 4/11, any other restaurant suggestions? Can't wait to go.

We like Dye's Gullah Fixin's. www.dyesgullahfixins.com

The buffet is good, as is anything on the menu. Make a reservation. She prepares everything from scratch and only enough for the guests she is expecting. You will not be disappointed.
